Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Deepening Attraction
The next few days passed quietly at Kuoh Academy, but underneath the surface, everything had changed. Rias and Akeno found themselves thinking about Ayush more often than they wanted to admit. It was subtle at first—just fleeting thoughts here and there—but it soon grew into something more. They couldn't help but wonder about him, about the way he seemed so calm, so confident, as if nothing could shake him.
Issei, for his part, had pushed his concerns to the back of his mind. Rias and Akeno had reassured him that nothing was wrong, that he had simply misunderstood the situation. And as much as Issei wanted to believe them, a small part of him couldn't shake the lingering discomfort he felt whenever Ayush was around.
But Ayush? He was in control. Every day, he could feel the artifact's power growing stronger. Rias and Akeno were becoming more drawn to him with every encounter, and he could sense their internal struggle. They wanted to believe they were just being friendly, but Ayush knew better. They were being pulled toward him in ways they couldn't explain, and soon, they wouldn't be able to resist.
It was a late afternoon, and Ayush found himself once again making his way to the Occult Research Club. The day had been uneventful, but Ayush knew the real game was about to begin. The clubroom was quiet when he arrived, the usual dim lighting casting soft shadows across the room.
Rias sat at her desk, her head bent over a stack of papers, her crimson hair spilling over her shoulders like a river of fire. She looked up as Ayush entered, her eyes meeting his with a brief flicker of surprise, though it quickly melted into a warm smile.
"Ayush," she greeted him, her voice soft but welcoming. "You're early."
Ayush smiled, taking a seat across from her. "I wanted to catch up," he said casually, though he could already feel the tension in the room shifting as soon as he sat down. He let the artifact hum gently beneath the surface, drawing Rias's attention to him without her realizing it.
Rias's posture shifted slightly as she leaned back in her chair, her fingers absentmindedly playing with the edge of one of the papers. The motion caused her blouse to pull taut against her chest, accentuating the curve of her body in a way that seemed unintentional—but Ayush knew better. She wasn't doing it on purpose, not consciously, but the artifact's power was pushing her to present herself to him in subtle, seductive ways.
They talked for a few minutes, exchanging polite conversation about school and the club's recent activities. But throughout the conversation, Ayush could see Rias's focus drifting. Her eyes kept wandering, flicking down to his hands, his chest, and then quickly back to his face, as if she couldn't help herself.
A few minutes later, Akeno entered the room, carrying her usual teacup. She smiled when she saw Ayush, her dark eyes gleaming with interest. "Well, if it isn't our newest member," she teased, her voice light but with a hint of something more.
Ayush met her gaze, feeling the artifact hum again as Akeno approached. Her body moved with a fluid grace, her long black hair swaying gently as she walked. As she set her teacup down on the table, she leaned forward just slightly, her blouse dipping low enough to reveal the barest hint of cleavage. Again, it wasn't intentional—or at least, it wasn't something she was aware of—but the artifact was influencing her, drawing her toward Ayush in the same way it was drawing Rias.
"You always seem to show up when the room is quiet," Akeno said with a playful smile as she sat beside him, her shoulder brushing lightly against his arm. "Are you trying to catch us off guard?"
Ayush chuckled softly, leaning back in his chair as he glanced between Rias and Akeno. "Just lucky timing, I guess."
Rias smiled at that, though there was a faint flush on her cheeks now. She shifted in her seat, crossing her legs in a way that revealed more of her smooth thigh through the slit of her skirt. The movement seemed casual, but it wasn't. The artifact was amplifying the subtle signals of attraction, making both Rias and Akeno unconsciously present themselves in more sensual ways without even realizing it.
Akeno, always more direct, let her gaze linger on Ayush for a moment longer before she took a sip of her tea. "You do seem to have good timing," she murmured, her voice low. "And you're very... observant."
Rias glanced at Akeno, her blue eyes narrowing slightly in playful challenge. She knew how Akeno liked to push the boundaries, but something about the way Akeno was interacting with Ayush made Rias feel a twinge of possessiveness she couldn't quite explain.
Just as the tension in the room was reaching its peak, the door to the clubroom swung open, and Issei walked in, his usual enthusiasm on full display. "Hey, guys!" he called out, oblivious to the tension hanging thick in the air.
Rias quickly straightened up, her cheeks flushing a deeper red as she tried to compose herself. "Issei," she greeted him, her voice a little too bright. "You're early today."
Issei grinned, clearly pleased with himself. "Yeah, I thought I'd get here before the meeting started for once."
But as Issei looked around the room, his smile faltered. He could sense it—the strange atmosphere between Rias, Akeno, and Ayush. It was the way Rias was sitting, her legs crossed in a way that seemed more relaxed than usual, the way her skirt rode up just enough to reveal more of her thigh. And Akeno? She was sitting unusually close to Ayush, her body angled toward him, her shoulder brushing against his as she leaned in to speak.
Issei's stomach twisted with discomfort, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly why. Rias and Akeno were his—at least, that's what he told himself. But the way they were acting around Ayush, the way their bodies seemed to naturally gravitate toward him, made something inside Issei itch with unease.
He forced a laugh, trying to shake off the feeling. "You guys look... cozy," he joked, though his voice lacked its usual enthusiasm.
Rias quickly straightened her posture, her expression shifting back into something more neutral. "We were just talking," she said, her voice calm but firm, as if she was trying to assure Issei that nothing was out of the ordinary.
Akeno, always the playful one, grinned as she leaned back in her chair, though there was a glint of mischief in her eyes. "Issei, you're imagining things," she teased, her voice light and airy. "We were just having a friendly conversation with Ayush."
Issei forced another laugh, though it sounded hollow. "Yeah... maybe I am," he muttered, though the discomfort in his chest didn't fade.
After Issei settled into his seat, the conversation resumed, though the tension still lingered in the air. Ayush, meanwhile, kept his expression neutral, but inside, he knew the artifact was working its magic. Rias and Akeno were growing more drawn to him with every passing day, and Issei was slowly starting to sense the shift, even if he didn't fully understand what was happening.
But what made it all the more satisfying was the subtle disappointment Ayush could see in both Rias and Akeno. Despite their playful reassurances to Issei, Ayush knew the truth. They were disappointed that he had believed their lie so easily, that he had accepted their explanation without question.
It was almost too easy. Issei's trust in them was so absolute that he never once doubted their words. But Rias and Akeno had wanted more. They had wanted him to push back, to challenge them, to show that he cared enough to question what he had seen. But instead, Issei had simply accepted their lie and moved on.
And with every moment that passed, Ayush could feel their disappointment growing, pushing them further toward him.
As the meeting wrapped up, Ayush stood to leave, exchanging brief goodbyes with Rias and Akeno. Issei, still oblivious to the deeper currents in the room, waved him off with a grin. But Ayush didn't miss the way Rias's eyes lingered on him for just a moment too long, or the way Akeno's smile curved with something more than just politeness.
The game was moving in his favor.
And as Ayush walked out of the clubroom, he couldn't help but smile.
