Chapter 18: Shyness towards paleness
After a moment of walking through Floor 2, both SCP-9743 and SCP-035 seemed to enjoy mocking each other, with flirtatious tone.
SCP-9743: "Hey! I wanted to ask... Why your name is 035? It sounds quite as... Special agent number, and not like a name."
SCP-035: "It's just my number, darling. I never took it as a name, but I don't have a name though..."
SCP-9743: "... That's just sad. Can I call you... Cad?"
SCP-035: "Cad? I guess is better than a number, darling. But why that name?"
SCP-9743: "... Nothing special..."
It was obvious SCP-9743 was hiding the truth from SCP-035 about that name, but there was nothing SCP-035 could do to find out, if SCP-9743 wasn't going to tell. After quite the walk without clear direction, SCP-9743 encounters the containment chamber of SCP-096.
The reason it got in first place with some ease to SCP-096's containment chamber, were the cries of SCP-096, as leaded SCP-9743 towards it.
SCP-9743: "SCP 96... Another item? What is SCP 96?"
SCP-035: "Well, darling, there's only one way to find out~"
SCP-9743 entered inside the containment chamber, concerned by hearing the cries.
SCP-9743: "Hello? Are you alright?"
SCP-9743 wandered inside the containment chamber, worried and concerned of the cries is hearing, while SCP-035 is amused for SCP-9743 encountering SCP-096. SCP-035 wants to see the real potential of SCP-9743, as his words were making the mask intrigued and fascinated, it wasn't only being amused by SCP-9743, it was also tented for see what SCP-9743 was really capable of.
After a short moment, SCP-9743 encountered SCP-096, standing behind of SCP-096 while SCP-096 was in it's usual sitting pose, crying and hiding it's face. SCP-9743 kneed towards SCP-096, and placed his left hand on SCP-096's right shoulder, calling it's attention.
SCP-096 stopped crying, and turned slightly to look. SCP-9743's expression was one of concern, but for his surprise, seconds later of looking at SCP-096, SCP-096 activated.
SCP-9743: "Are you... Alright? Why are you crying?"
SCP-096 slowly got up, activating. At first, SCP-9743 remained curious and concerned, but once SCP-096 started yelling slowly more and more loudly, as moving in circles it's head faster and faster, SCP-9743 quickly placed his hands on his hears, and teleported some away.
SCP-9743 got up and looked concerned with some distance, not understanding this behavior, while SCP-035 seems amused for the imminent fight.
After short time, SCP-096 gave a loud yell towards SCP-9743, and then started running towards him.
SCP-9743: "Look, I'm sorry!"
SCP-9743 kept teleporting, not wanting to attack SCP-096, while SCP-096 seems to keep trying to reach SCP-9743, and not listening in anything he was saying.
SCP-9743: "Sorry for touching you!"
SCP-9743: "I didn't know you didn't like that!"
SCP-9743: "Can you stop?"
Despite SCP-9743's efforts, SCP-096 didn't stop yelling and rushing with it's arms and hand towards him. SCP-035 seems disappointed in the attempts of SCP-9743 for a more pacifist way, trying to act and spare SCP-096.
SCP-035: "Darling, 96 is an animal. You're it's prey, unless... It becomes yours~"
SCP-9743: "What do you mean?"
SCP-035: "Didn't you say 'It's kill or be killed'?~ Well, you don't have other option~"
After a moment, SCP-9743 remained thinking, but for him, SCP-035 was right, there was no other option with SCP-096, and so... SCP-9743 started wearing SCP-035 to have both hands free, and then, made SCP-096 have a blue aura, and crashing it against the walls, ceiling and ground.
After SCP-096 being crashed multiple times, in a sudden, SCP-096 managed to break free and charge against SCP-9743. SCP-9743 was surprised, but then, raised his left hand pointing SCP-096, and a wave of bones rushed from behind of SCP-9743.
SCP-096 received the bones with clear hits, at first, each hit made SCP-096 take some knockback as taking a step back, but after few hits, it started slashing and breaking the bones with it's hands, and charged once again.
SCP-9743 saw there was no other option, but to go all out, and so, he clapped his hands, and blue electricity suddenly appeared from his hands, and in the middle of his hands, there was a blue orb with fadeful flames, and around outside his hands, thunders appearing.
Behind SCP-9743 appeared a giant skull with sharp teeth and horns, the difference was the size. The skull charged and bit SCP-096, and then, crashed SCP-096 against a wall, before opened slightly it's mouth, and shot a blue energy beam.
For SCP-9743's surprise, after a short moment, SCP-096 grabbed the mouth of the skull, and opened it more and more, until breaking in two. After being shattered, the skull instantly became dust, and the energy beam vanished.
As the fight prolonged, SCP-9743's attacks seemed to be useless against SCP-096. SCP-096 almost instantly healed after each hit, or the hits didn't affect it at all. SCP-096 broke the bones with ease, and with it's physical strength, shattered in half the skulls, while also the energy beams didn't give any damage to SCP-096.
All SCP-9743 could do, was teleport away, and try to keep SCP-096 under control, but he couldn't. SCP-096 managed to reach SCP-9743 multiple times, but SCP-9743 dodged with extreme speed the attacks and attempt of being teared apart by SCP-096.
The fight provoked high damage to the facility, and more and more cracks were on the walls, ground and ceiling. Slowly, SCP-9743 was running out of options, as he was in a so short space, he wasn't able to do much more than what he was already doing, and wasn't able to teleport outside the Foundation. The only option to run away, was using a portal and travel to his personal void, but each time he tried, SCP-096 reached him.
So, in an attempt to flee, SCP-9743 teleported away, back to SCP-914, and started breathing deeply. He was tired, and nothing seemed to work, but then, he turned around, and got an idea... Maybe, and just maybe... He could improve himself, along SCP-035, using SCP-914.
Meanwhile, SCP-096 started running, in the attempt to catch SCP-9743, as by how the Foundation would classify, SCP-9743 was also too as SCP-096-1.
Inform: SCP-9743's Encounter with SCP-096 Summary of Interaction
SCP-9743's encounter with SCP-096 showcased a clash of unstoppable rage against an evasive, powerful anomaly. SCP-9743's decision to engage SCP-096 stemmed from curiosity and an initial attempt to provide comfort, which inadvertently triggered SCP-096's activation. Despite SCP-9743's immense arsenal, SCP-096's anomalous durability and relentless aggression pushed SCP-9743 into a position of survival rather than dominance. This encounter also revealed SCP-9743's limits, both in his ability to pacify an enraged entity and his reliance on the physical constraints of the facility.
Behavioral Analysis
SCP-9743:
Initial Approach:
SCP-9743 demonstrated empathy by attempting to console SCP-096 after hearing its cries. This behavior aligns with previous interactions where SCP-9743 showed concern for other entities (e.g., SCP-529 and SCP-085). His verbal attempts to calm SCP-096 ("Are you alright? Why are you crying?") show a preference for resolution through dialogue before resorting to violence.
Reluctance to Attack:
SCP-9743 showed hesitation and repeated apologies during SCP-096's initial charge, suggesting a dislike for engaging in violence unless provoked. This reluctance contrasts starkly with his usual assertion of dominance (e.g., against SCP-682 and SCP-343), revealing a sense of moral conflict when faced with an opponent that appears pitiable or misunderstood.
Combat Strategy:
SCP-9743 relied heavily on teleportation and ranged attacks, avoiding direct confrontation. His bone manipulation, telekinesis, and summoned skull constructs were utilized in rapid succession, but they proved ineffective against SCP-096's anomalous resilience. His frustration grew as none of his abilities inflicted lasting damage, highlighting a critical limitation in his offensive power against entities with extreme regenerative capabilities.
Decision to Retreat:
SCP-9743's decision to flee marked a rare moment of strategic vulnerability. His inability to escape SCP-096 by traditional means (teleportation) pushed him toward desperation and the decision to seek enhancement via SCP-914, showcasing his adaptability under pressure.
SCP-035 ("Cad"):
Instigation and Manipulation:
SCP-035 encouraged SCP-9743 to fight SCP-096, framing it as a necessary survival tactic: "It's kill or be killed." The mask displayed amusement at SCP-9743's initial reluctance, reinforcing its role as a provocateur and instigator. SCP-035's tone was playful and mocking, but its intent seemed genuine: testing SCP-9743's limits and observing his true capabilities.
Support Role:
SCP-035 provided no direct assistance during the confrontation, but its commentary served to push SCP-9743 to his breaking point, emphasizing a dynamic where SCP-035 subtly influences SCP-9743's actions while maintaining plausible deniability.
SCP-096:
Activation:
SCP-096's activation followed its standard pattern: initial distress (crying) escalating to uncontrollable rage upon being viewed. SCP-9743's inadvertent observation of its face triggered a violent response. SCP-096's behavior reinforced its classification as a Keter-class anomaly, with its speed, strength, and regenerative abilities rendering it virtually unstoppable.
Combat Resilience:
SCP-096's ability to endure and counter SCP-9743's attacks (e.g., shattering summoned skulls, breaking through telekinetic barriers) highlighted its unparalleled durability. SCP-096's persistence in pursuing SCP-9743, even across locations, underscores its anomalous nature as a relentless hunter of SCP-096-1 instances. Containment Breach Details
Damage to Facility:
The fight caused significant structural damage to SCP-096's containment chamber and surrounding areas. Walls, ceilings, and floors were heavily cracked or pierced by SCP-9743's attacks and SCP-096's retaliatory charges. SCP-9743's teleportation spread the conflict to additional sections of Floor 2, further escalating the breach.
SCP-9743's Status as SCP-096-1:
By viewing SCP-096's face, SCP-9743 has effectively been classified as SCP-096-1. SCP-096's pursuit is expected to continue until SCP-9743 is terminated or removed from SCP-096's perception. SCP-9743's inability to subdue SCP-096 marks a significant shift in his perceived invincibility, potentially impacting his psychology and behavior in future encounters. Aftermath and Future Implications
SCP-914 Experimentation:
SCP-9743's decision to retreat to SCP-914 suggests a growing reliance on external tools to overcome his limitations. SCP-035's interest in SCP-914 could lead to further experimentation, potentially resulting in enhanced abilities for either SCP-9743 or SCP-035—or catastrophic unintended consequences.
SCP-096's Relentless Pursuit:
SCP-096's determination to hunt SCP-9743 will force Site-19 personnel to implement emergency protocols to prevent further breaches. SCP-9743's unpredictable nature and refusal to submit to containment complicate efforts to mitigate the situation.
SCP-035's Influence:
SCP-035's growing bond with SCP-9743 continues to evolve into a dangerous partnership. While SCP-9743 exhibits some resistance to SCP-035's manipulations, their shared traits (defiance, cynicism, and humor) foster a volatile dynamic.
Foundation's Response:
The Foundation may view SCP-9743 as increasingly uncontrollable, raising questions about his containment and use in further experiments. His volatile behavior and capacity for destruction could lead to more aggressive containment measures or attempts to neutralize him altogether. Behavioral Observations
SCP-9743's Pacifist Tendencies:
This encounter reinforced SCP-9743's preference for avoiding violence, despite his immense power. His repeated apologies and initial refusal to fight SCP-096 demonstrate a desire to resolve conflict peacefully, even when faced with impossible odds.
Psychological Impact:
SCP-9743's frustration at SCP-096's resilience and his failure to subdue it may lead to feelings of inadequacy or anger, further deepening his cynicism toward the Foundation and its methods.
SCP-035's Role:
SCP-035 continues to act as a provocateur, subtly influencing SCP-9743's actions while remaining an observer. Its role as a manipulator becomes increasingly apparent, raising concerns about its long-term intentions. Recommendations for Future Containment and Observation
Enhanced Containment for SCP-9743:
Upgrade containment chamber to withstand teleportation and destructive abilities. Limit SCP-9743's access to high-risk SCPs, especially SCP-914, to prevent further experimentation or enhancements.
Monitoring SCP-096 Pursuit:
Deploy MTF units to track and intercept SCP-096 before it breaches critical areas of Site-19. Develop contingency plans for isolating SCP-096 and SCP-9743 to minimize collateral damage.
Evaluation of SCP-035's Influence:
Conduct further studies to assess SCP-035's psychological manipulation of SCP-9743. Consider separating SCP-035 from SCP-9743 if its influence becomes destabilizing.
This encounter underscores SCP-9743's potential to escalate containment breaches and his unpredictable responses when faced with anomalies that challenge his power. It also emphasizes the growing threat posed by his partnership with SCP-035. As SCP-9743 continues to explore Site-19, the Foundation must prepare for further breaches and the possibility of catastrophic events.
