Chapter 5: CHAPTER 5:- THE LONER HAS A FRIEND
"Alright, this outta do it" Chris said whilst staring at his reflecting in the mirror. He was putting on a casual T-shirt and shorts, something a regular teenager would wear.
"So, you wear these while fighting those bad guys?" Jules asked. His gaze intent on the clothes on Chris's bed.
"Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure you must've noticed our uniform" Chris moved towards him. "It comes with a special barrier that protects us from physical weapons" He added. "Oh! and you also get to customize yours as well" he winked.
"I see" Jules said. Chris's uniform was a long sleeved shirt and a pair of thick pants. He remembered Anne putting on an almost similar style while Elise's uniform had a long hood.
"By the way, do you live alone?" He looked around noticing how they were the only ones in the huge and beautiful apartment.
"Well, yes I do" Chris smiled.
"Huh?, But you're just a teenager?" Jules was surprised.
"Hehe, my parents got me this apartment. They live in Gambrid city but I choose to attend my high school here" Chris said.
"The big city Gambrid?!. Wow, they must be filthy rich!" Jules gaped.
"That's cause they are" Chris laughed.
'Wow, not only did I somehow manage to get myself a best friend but a rich one at that?!' Jules thought.
"Anyways, let's get you home buddy" Chris wrapped an arm on Jules's shoulder.
"Alright" Jules nodded in approval.
'He's so nice' he thought as Chris led him out of the apartment.
A few minutes later.....
"This way" Jules said for the 5th time and they came to a halt as soon as they arrived in front of a small bungalow.
"This is it" He said.
"Wow, you've got a pretty simple house here" Chris spoke.
"Hehe, I guess rich kids like you aren't used to this" Jules laughed awkwardly.
"Jules?!, Is that you?!" Charlotte opened up the gate before he could ring the intercom. "I saw someone walk towards the gate and I knew it had to be you. Where the hell have you been little bro?!" She yelled angrily and grabbed Jules's cheeks roughly.
"Ow ow ow, that hurts!" Jules winced.
"That's outta teach you not to...." Charlotte paused at the sight of another guy beside them. She immediately released her fingers from Jules's face and turned to him.
"And who's this?" She stared at Chris with curiosity.
"Hi, I'm Chris Duchamp" Chris smiled.
"You must be Jules's sister. Nice to meet you, I'm a friend of Jules" He said.
Charlotte walked closer to him and looked up suspiciously. "Are you threatening my little brother?!" She asked, her eyes staring into his face menacingly.
"Huh? What?!" Chris stared at her wide eyed.
"Jules has no friends, who are you really?" She asked.
Jules turned red in embarrassment. "Stop it sis, he's my friend" He said abruptly.
"Wait seriously?" Charlotte looked up at Jules in surprise.
"You're friends?, My brother has a friend?!" She asked in surprise.
"Is it that shocking for your own sister to be this surprised?" Chris looked towards Jules with a grin.
"Ahh, this is so embarrassing!" Jules facepalmed.
"Nice to meet you, I was just so surprised by this information. What was your name again?" Charlotte asked Chris.
"Chris, yours?" Chris said.
"Oh, I'm Charlotte. Sorry, I acted that way earlier. It's just...Jules has always been a loner so it's hard to believe he has a friend" She smiled warmly.
"You don't have to tell him that sis" Jules groaned and Chris laughed.
"He's just embarrassed, come on in" Charlotte said and led Chris into the house with Jules walking after them.
"I'm guessing you went to hang out with Chris and that's why you're back so late" She spoke.
"Uh..yeah. That's what happened" Jules said.
'Phew' he sighed inwardly.
Charlotte turned to Chris this time. "I would love to invite you for dinner but I'm guessing you don't wanna stay too long" She said.
"Well, I live alone so I have no curfew whatsoever but I do wanna get back home and relax. It's been a long day" Chris sighed.
"You live alone? But you look like a high school student" Charlotte was surprised.
"Hehe, I'm classmates with Jules right here. That's how we became best friends" he laughed. "My parents live away from here so I just take care of myself" he added.
"Wow, it must be difficult for you" Charlotte stared at him with a hint of concern and admiration.
"Not really, I like it" Chris smiled.
Charlotte laughed. "But I'm curious, how did you guys become friends?. I mean, you're practically opposites and Jules never talks to anyone. I was pretty sure it was gonna take a long while for him to adjust to his new school but now he comes home with a best friend?" Charlotte couldn't hide her surprise by hitting them with a lot of questions.
"Sis!" Jules called out.
"What, I'm just curious" Charlotte said.
"Well, this awkward fellow here couldn't find the way to the classroom so I offered to help him and we talked for a while. He's actually a nice person" Chris said.
"Awwn, my baby bro is a good kid" Charlotte said and aggressively patted Jules on the head.
Jules was dying from the embarrassment but he made sure not to try to push her away. Chris took note of this and smiled.
'He's trying his best to control his strength' he thought.
"Anyways, I should best get going. Although, I have a few things to say to Jules" He said.
Charlotte smiled. "Go ahead and say whatever you wanna say, I'll be in the kitchen and feel free to visit anytime you want" She said.
"I sure will" Chris smiled and watched Charlotte walk to the kitchen afterwards. He then turned to look at Jules.
"Your sister's really nice, one would think she's your mum despite how young she looks" He said.
"Yeah, she's the best sister I could ask for" Jules looked down smiling. Chris smiled at his reaction.
"Anyways, I noticed how you tried not to touch her" He said. "Are you sure you're gonna be alright, you're still new to this ability so you may not be able to handle it" Chris asked.
"Oh don't worry, I'll be fine" Jules reassured.
"If you say so, let's exchange numbers just in case" Chris suggested.
"Okay" Jules agreed and they exchanged numbers.
"See ya" Chris waved at Jules as he led him out the gate. Jules waved and smiled back at him...
'My first real friend' he thought as he watched Chris leave.
The next morning....
"I know I said I'll be able to handle this new ability but this is just horrible!" Jules groaned in frustration.
Not only had he snap two toothbrushes in half, he had broken the shower and accidently hurt his eye with a toothpaste lid, now he was clutching onto the door of his closet which apparently, had also been broken.
"Could this day get any worse?!" He groaned.
"You okay in there Jules?" Charlotte asked from the kitchen.
"Umm..yeah sis. I'm perfectly fine" Jules said and hurriedly but carefully put on his school uniform, socks and shoes. He made sure not to touch anything valuable.
He was completely dressed and walked towards the kitchen with his school bag.
"I'll be off to school sis" he said.
"Hey, hold it!" Charlotte said. "Won't you have breakfast first?" She asked.
"Umm....I'll skip it for today" Jules said. It was sure to be risky.
"Well, at least have some water" Charlotte said and walked towards him with a glass cup filled with water. "Here" she gestured for him to drink it.
'Calm down Jules, control your strength. You can do this' he thought and took the glass filled with water.
He had gulped it all down. 'Nice work Jules' he thought to himself and was about to hand it back to her when.
CRASH!
The glass shattered in his hand and all the pieces came falling on the floor.
"Jules!" Charlotte screamed wide eyed.
'It's over' Jules thought.
