Save & Reset

Chapter 8: New City

I took out the weapon that I had wanted for a long time from my [Inventory]. The Sword of Beginning was a great match for a starter character, as it utilized its abilities based on the holder, which was me.

The sword, as light as a stick, emitted a fine golden glitter around it. Just by holding the grip, I could feel the quality of the sword, which reassured me about my decision to choose it.

I felt strangely connected to the sword I was holding. In my past life, I knew that handling a sword wasn't easy since I had tried it and failed. However, after coming to this world, I thought I might be able to handle it. I didn't know if I was acting mighty, but as I gripped the sword tightly, I felt unstoppable.

I confronted the boss with a confident look on my face. The blue lizard wasn't pleased about my presence, standing on guard.

I took a deep breath and rushed forward with high speed. The boss had more agility and defense than the normal Quartz Lizard, but it wasn't a problem for me.

I knew every pattern of attack it could use, and I was ready for each of them. My plan for defeating the boss was simple: Dodge and Attack.

To think that I could replicate the exact movements I input in the game in real life felt exhilarating. It took me no time to finish off the boss monster.

I looked at the vanishing body of the boss and hoped to get some good drops… but I didn't get anything besides the monster core.

I left the dungeon and went for a walk. There were many things I needed to think about, especially the ways I was going to get stronger. I had a lot of information, which meant there were many ways to make myself stronger. The problem was time. Thankfully, I had [Save & Reset], which could save me a lot of time, but I didn't know if it would be enough.

"Oh, I found it," I said.

[ Quest: A Herbalist Proposal ]

[ Visit the Quest Giver before the Time Limit to receive the Rewards ]

It wasn't hard for me to find the location of the [Poisonous Dandelion]. I put the flower in my [Inventory] and headed back to Iterium.

I gave the quartz to the wandering merchant and handed the dandelion to the herbalist shop. The rewards weren't too eye-catching, but I wasn't expecting to get more than this for a starter city. I stored the rewards in my [Inventory].

I went to the guild and sold all of the monster cores I had obtained from the dungeon. Adding the quest rewards, I gained about 40 silver coins or 4 gold coins.

Just before I left the guild building, Jan said, "Before you go, I need to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"You're now qualified to upgrade your adventuring grade."

"Are you sure? It hasn't been a week since I applied for the job, and now you're telling me I can upgrade?"

"Yes. As an F-grade, you've completed some E-grade missions, and you brought many E-grade and a D-grade mana core, which is unlikely for an F-grader."

"Well, I wasn't expecting that." I knew I would eventually reach this point, but I didn't realize I was doing this well.

"Are you going to rank up or not?"

"Of course, I want to."

Advancing from F to E in the Adventurers Guild was an important milestone. Why? It's simple. If an F-grade adventurer's card was like a library card where you could borrow books, an E-grade card was considered an ID card that would increase its value by upgrading.

Fabricating an Adventurer's ID card was nearly impossible; I had tried it before. So getting it this soon was a huge deal for me, as it would allow me to travel to other cities without any problem. I then left the guild building.

It was cold, and the road was quieter than usual. I looked at the sky and muttered, "I guess I'm ready to leave."

My level wasn't too high, but I was strong enough to leave Iterium for better opportunities. I could stay and learn at least 5 skills to get stronger, but that wasn't the case. I knew many ways to get stronger, and with each passing second, I was getting further and harder to reach. I didn't want to let go of those opportunities and just stick to normal means of getting stronger.

I didn't go back to the tavern; instead, I began to pack my things to leave the city. It didn't take me long before I was ready to go.

I moved quickly and rested only when necessary. I mostly ate fruits to avoid hunting as much as possible and ran away from any monsters to not waste my time fighting. Finally, after 5 days of non-stop walking, I reached my destination.

"Wow." I stood atop a hill, looking at the city with glowing eyes.

Aloraz was a fortress city famous for its monsters. Many types of monsters lived around the city, waiting to be hunted, which is why this city was also called the Adventurers' City. The old walls that surrounded the entire city felt incredibly nostalgic to me.

After a bit of time, I ran toward the city's entrance. Merchants, hunters, adventurers, and many more were eagerly waiting for their turn to enter the city, and I was one of them.

"Next. Give me your ID," said the guard.

I handed him my Adventurer's ID card, and he placed it inside a device to approve its validation.

One of the guards, noticing my grade on my card, said, "E-grade? Isn't that a bit too soon to come into this city?"

"Don't worry about it. I know how hard it can be to be an adventurer in Aloraz."

"I don't know what you know, but let me tell you that those rumors about how terrifying Aloraz is aren't just rumors."

"Copy that."

He wasn't wrong. Most players come into this city after their first job advancement, which is level 50. I was just level 13 and only had one combat skill, which was unlikely for an adventurer whose job is hunting down monsters.

I entered the city without any problem. The city was as crowded as in the game, and I felt a bit lost among the crowd. Thankfully, memorizing the city's map was my specialty, so I wasn't worried about getting lost.

Without too much thought, I navigated the roads as quickly as I could. I wanted to get some supplies before resting, and there were many things to acquire, but I decided to go for the easiest option.

The slums, a place for the poor to live. Sadly, no matter where you go, poverty wasn't an easy matter to handle.

Eerr—I opened one of the doors of the many empty houses. The soulless house had been abandoned due to many problems, but I wasn't complaining. I looked forward and saw a piece of paper lying on the ground. I bent to grab it and smiled, as that piece of paper was exactly what I was hoping for.

"It's five this time? Well, it doesn't matter," I muttered.

The letter pieces mentioned in the quest were assigned randomly, but I wasn't worried since I knew every location where the pieces could possibly be.

It took me less than 3 hours to find all of the pieces among the houses.

[ The Reward has been deposited in your Inventory ]

I opened my [Inventory] to see the reward I had been hoping for.

> A letter for Gabriel ]

I took out the letter. The letter was magically sealed and couldn't be opened by any normal means. I turned the letter to see the back of it.

"To Gabriel, huh?"

To use the letter, a player required to complete many strange tasks, but I could bypass those since I knew what to do with the letter.

I headed toward the Aloraz Adventurers Guild. It didn't take me long to find it.

The Aloraz Adventurer Guild was much bigger than Iterium's, as many people came and went in the building. Some were laughing and drinking together, while others were teaming up for upcoming missions. I, on the other hand, wasn't there for any of that.

I hastily looked around to find the person I was looking for… and finally, I found him. A delicate-looking old man with white hair and purple eyes, who was enjoying a cup of tea. Just by looking at him, people would wonder whether or not he was an adventurer, as he looked noble.

Of course, I knew that as well since he was a noble. And someone beyond just an ordinary noble.
