Chapter 2: Beginner's Guide

I couldn't believe what I was witnessing in front of me. My mouth widened in disbelief, and my body trembled. I raised my hand to touch the screen before me, but my hand moved as if there was nothing there to begin with.

Without thinking, I shouted, "[Status Window]"

I was shocked. There were many strange things, such as my name and age, which frightened me since I didn't know who I was. My legs shook with excitement, so I sat down.

I decided to set aside the name and age for now and focused on the obvious part. My stats made me quite happy since having 10 as basic stats was rare, and I had them in all areas, which was good for me. The second part that delighted me was my special skill.

Special skills were quite rare in [Doomed Fantasy], and having one could give you a great advantage. I didn't know the name of my character, so I didn't know what my special skill was. There were many ways to activate a hidden special skill. You could do things related to the skill or put yourself in dangerous situations. But those ways might be a little difficult, and I knew many better methods, so I wasn't worried.

I stood up. I was in an alley, and the wall in front of me was beyond any digital game, and that got me thinking. 'So this is my new reality,' I thought. It was so strange, and it felt impossible. I was inside my favorite game, and I didn't know whether to be happy or sad about it.

Although I loved [Doomed Fantasy], I didn't want to live inside it, since the game was full of misfortune and apocalyptic scenarios, which weren't conducive to living calmly.

I quickly gathered my thoughts and took a deep breath to calm my stress and excitement. After all, I was inside one of the most difficult games of all time.

"I need to do a lot of things."

I knew the game as well as I knew my name, so I could tell my location without any problem. I was in Iterium, a.k.a. the starter city. The starter city is one of many locations that players could go to and pray for a good start. There were many shops in this city, which was one of the main reasons for its nickname.

I had a straightforward plan in my head that I needed to finish on this first day. The sun stood in the middle of the sky, so I had enough time to do so.

Before I went, I shouted, "[Inventory]"

[ Level 5 required ]

I knew I couldn't open the inventory at my level, but it was worth a shot.

I walked out of the alley to the main street. People passed by me, and the traders on the road were selling their goods. Even though I had seen this very scene on the computer, seeing the road without those fancy graphical lights made me emotional. I took another step toward the left direction. I knew this city very well, so getting lost wasn't an option.

With each step, I gained even more excitement about the situation I was in. It felt like a dream that I didn't want to wake up from. And finally, I reached my destination.

As I entered the guild with a little worry in my heart, many adventurers were chatting and drinking. The sharp smell of alcohol and sweat was bothersome, but I didn't complain. I stopped at the counter.

"Hello, is there anyone who could help me?"

"Oh, hi. How can I help you?" said a young lady with yellow hair and blue eyes. I recognized her since it wasn't my first encounter with a guild assistant.

"I want to register as an adventurer. Could you help me with that?"

"Absolutely. But aren't you a little young for that?"

She was right. My appearance seemed like that of a 15-year-old boy, which was a little surprising considering that I was 0 years old.

"No, it's okay. I can handle being an adventurer, and it's not illegal to register as an adventurer at a young age."

"Okay, fine. I need you to fill out a form for me. You can sit in the chair since it might take a little while."

"Okay, thank you."

She then handed me a paper and a pencil. I sat in a corner and began filling out the form. The first question was my name. I didn't want to put my past life name there since this was a new life for me, and I didn't want to stick to the past. There were many questions that I answered with a little twist since I couldn't answer them honestly. In the ability section, I put swordsmanship since you couldn't be an adventurer if you didn't have any ability.

After finishing everything, I handed the paper to the assistant.

"Okay, Sir Action, it will take a couple of minutes to prepare your Guild Card, so you need to wait a little."

"Okay."

ActionDoomerDoom was my gamertag in my past life, and I was proud of that, so I put my name as Action. And since most of the commoners didn't have any family name, I left the family name empty.

I sat in the exact corner where I had filled out the form. It didn't take as long as I thought for her to prepare my Guild Card. She was holding some other papers in her hands, and then she put them on the table. I stood and walked toward the table.

"Congratulations. You are now an official adventurer. Do you want to know the guild's rules?"

"Thank you. I already know the guild's rules."

I had read the guild's rules book before, and its summary was 'Don't do anything bad.' I took the Guild Card from her and checked my information. I was assigned as an F-rank adventurer, which was something that everyone started from.

There are two types of ranking systems in this world. The alphabetical ranking, which is mostly used to grade difficulty and quality, is in order: F, E, D, C, B, A, and lastly, S, which is the highest of them all. The second one, which is used as a rarity of items or skills, is in order: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Unique, Epic, Heroic, Legendary, and finally, Singularity, which is the rarest of them all.

I quickly moved away from the counter to see my [Status Window]. I wasn't expecting to unlock my unique skill, and that made me quite excited to see my information.

I stared blankly at my information in front of me. '[Save and Reset]? What is that?' I thought. I knew pretty much every unique skill, and I had never heard of anything like that in my life.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It couldn't have been real. I sat in the exact location where I was and spaced out for 10 minutes or more. I then stood up and said, "[Save]"

[ Skill "Save & Reset: Save" Activated ]

[ 987/1/1 12:26, has been saved as the new Checkpoint ]

I walked away from the point where I was standing… no, I was running. I was in shock. I couldn't make sense of the information, so I just ran until I couldn't… and said, "[Reset]"

[ Skill "Save & Reset: Reset" Activated ]

[ Restarting From the Recent Checkpoint ]

I turned back to the position where I started. I wasn't exhausted, and nothing around me had changed from before.

I did it again, and again, and again. I was standing in the middle of the guild and staring into space.

[Doomed Fantasy] was an unbeatable game. Many people who were playing this game decided to stop because it was unbeatable, but that wasn't the problem. No matter how hard a game could be, as long as it's a game, there is a way to complete it, and [Doomed Fantasy] was a game after all. The problem was the fact that you couldn't save your progress in this game. Once you died, you needed to start all over again, from the very beginning. That was why many people left the game and just watched others trying it.

But everything turned around because of the [Save & Reset], since with this skill, I could clear everything no matter what.
