Chapter 17: Bai Ye's Marine Officially Offered A Reward Of 1 Billion Baileys, The First Half Of The Grand Line.

The First Half of the Grand Line

Seagulls flitted across the sky.

On an island, ships came and went continuously at the bustling port.

"Do you know why this sea is called a cemetery for pirates by some and a paradise by others, even though most pirates here are strong in their own right?"

A one-armed, middle-aged sailor addressed a younger sailor beside him, his gaze fixed on a large pirate ship with hundreds of crew members departing the port.

"Why is that?" the young sailor asked curiously.

The middle-aged man sighed, reminiscing.

"It's because no matter how powerful they were back home, the moment they step into the Grand Line, every pirate starts from the same point. Here, they're all 'newcomers.' And in this chaotic sea, any place and any moment can become their grave."

The young sailor looked thoughtful and asked, "And the paradise?"

The older man chuckled and pointed to his severed arm.

"As the name suggests, while it may be a cemetery for many, for the truly strong, chaos itself is paradise. The stronger you are, the more this place rewards you. As for the losers... Well, they end up like me."

The young sailor nodded slowly, his attention drawn to a nearby newspaper. His eyes lit up as he asked, "What about that guy from North Blue? The one Marine has just placed a one-billion-Bailey bounty on. Would you say he's strong even by Grand Line standards?"

The older sailor hesitated. "Well, that depends on—"

Before he could finish, his voice faltered. His gaze shifted to the sea in the distance.

"What's happening over there?"

The young sailor followed his line of sight, confused at first. But as the scene unfolded before them, his eyes widened, and his mouth fell open.

A large pirate ship that had just left the port—a vessel capable of holding hundreds of pirates—was suddenly destroyed.

"Boom!"

The sound of wood splintering echoed across the sea as the mighty ship disintegrated into wreckage.

"Cough, cough!"

"B*****d! Damn old man, I'll never forgive you!"

"Ahhhh! I spent years building that ship, slaughtering towns to fund it!"

Shouts of rage and despair erupted from the pirates floating amidst the debris.

But the destruction wasn't caused by Sea Kings or a strange ocean current.

It was a person.

Both sailors exchanged stunned glances, their disbelief mirrored in each other's eyes.

A single person had reduced a massive ship to nothing.

In the midst of the wreckage, a small boat emerged, cutting through the water with ease.

The boat was almost laughably tiny compared to the large ship it had just destroyed. But as it sailed closer, everyone in the port held their breath.

On the small boat stood an imposing figure.

He wore a spotless white shirt. At his waist hung a sword with a hilt of "Eastern Purple," simple yet elegant. His aged but muscular frame seemed untouched by the ravages of time.

"Th-that can't be...!" someone whispered.

The murmurs grew louder.

"It's him! The one who killed the Celestial Dragons in North Blue! The one with a billion-Bailey bounty!"

"Why is he here?! Wasn't he supposed to stay in North Blue?!"

"Did he come to the Grand Line alone?!"

The realization struck like a thunderclap. This was no ordinary pirate.

For weeks, the news of a man who dared to kill a Celestial Dragon had sent shockwaves across the world. While some dismissed him as a madman seeking fame, seeing him now left no doubt in their minds—this was a monster.

The tension in the air was suffocating. The sheer aura of the old man, even from a distance, weighed heavily on everyone in the port.

Some instinctively stepped back, while others broke into a cold sweat.

Yet, for a few, greed overcame fear.

"A billion Baileys..." one muttered.

"If we alert the local Marine branch, we could claim the reward!"

Their eyes glinted with avarice as they scrambled to send a message.

The man who dared to kill a Celestial Dragon wasn't hiding in North Blue.

He had come to the Grand Line, alone and unafraid.
