Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Marcus's eyes narrowed as he turned to the masked figure. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice firm but laced with curiosity.
The figure hesitated for a moment before slowly removing its mask. Marcus's breath caught in his throat as he beheld the face beneath. It was a girl, breathtakingly beautiful, with golden blond hair cascading down her back like a river of sunset hues. Her piercing green eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief, and her full lips curled into a gentle smile.
Marcus felt himself becoming lost in her beauty, his mind foggy and his thoughts scattered. It was as if time itself had slowed, and all that existed was this captivating girl.
"Wh-what's your name?" she asked, her voice like music, shattering the spell that had entranced Marcus.
He blinked, feeling a flush rise to his cheeks. "I-I'm Marcus," he stuttered, trying to regain his composure.
The girl's smile widened. "I'm... Elara," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Marcus's eyes locked onto hers, searching for any hint of deception. But all he saw was kindness and sincerity.
"Why did you help me?" Marcus asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Elara's gaze drifted away, her eyes clouding for a moment. "I liked how you stood up to my, uh.. the prince," she said, her voice tinged with admiration. "You showed courage and conviction. It's... refreshing."
Marcus sensed a hesitation in her words, as if she had almost revealed something she shouldn't have. He noticed a faint pause before she continued.
"You almost called the prince something," Marcus said, his eyes narrowing. "What was it?"
Elara's smile faltered, and she quickly covered. "Oh, nothing. Just a slip of the tongue."
Marcus wasn't convinced, but he let it slide. For now.
After speaking for a few more minutes, Marcus stood up to leave. "I should get going," he said, feeling a sense of unease about returning home empty-handed.
Elara nodded, her eyes sparkling with a hint of sadness. "Be careful, Marcus. The prince won't give up easily."
Marcus smiled wryly. "I'll be fine."
They exchanged goodbyes, and Marcus set off towards home, his heart heavy with worry. What would his father say when he found out that Marcus had lost the medicine?
Meanwhile, back at the market, the vampire prince was determined to find Marcus. His guards combed the area, searching for any sign of the young werewolf.
One of the guards suddenly stopped, his eyes fixed on something on the ground. He picked up a small bottle, recognizing it as the medicine Marcus had been holding earlier.
"Your Highness," the guard said, approaching the prince. "I think I found something."
The prince's eyes narrowed as he took the bottle from the guard. "Find all the traders who sell this medicine," he ordered, his voice cold and calculating. "I want to know where Marcus is hiding."
The guard nodded, hurrying off to carry out the prince's orders. The prince's eyes seemed to bore into the distance, his mind fixed on finding Marcus and making him pay for his defiance.
