Chapter 26 - The Approaching Day

One month until the Sky Island quest begins.

After finishing the meeting with Mu, I continued with normal daily classes from the next day. Alternating with Mu, I taught classes in a completely ordinary way without showing anything special.

There was no particular reason. After all, if they were demon executives, they would surely recognize us just by seeing us teach, so there was no problem with just teaching normally.

Well, of course, I wouldn’t mind if there was an opportunity, but until now, about two weeks later, I had just been repeating classes without anything special happening.

And currently, I was behind the cafeteria. I was giving Kana special tutoring using the leftover time during lunch break.

“Visualize the image more clearly!”
“Ugh… Yes…!!”

What I was teaching Kana was the chef’s skill “Cross-cutting” that Mu had shown her in the past.

As it was a skill that chefs must learn for combat, unlike in the game, it was quite difficult to master, and because of that, Kana had been learning just this one skill from me for two weeks.

Originally, Kana was already learning most of the other cooking skills, so if she properly learned this one skill, her abilities would rapidly improve afterwards.

And after two weeks of learning the skill from me, Kana was finally showing clear progress.

“Hup!”

Kana gripped her kitchen knife tightly with a shout. Along with that, the shape of the cutting board laid out under Kana’s and my feet began to become a little clearer.

Chefs who know how to use cross-cutting can see each other’s domains, so it’s visible to the naked eye.

Therefore, looking at it with the eyes, Kana’s cutting board currently laid out was about 80% complete. With a few more days of effort, she would probably be able to use perfect cross-cutting.

“…Ooh.”

And just as I thought that, along with Kana’s groan, the shape of the cutting board became much more distinct. At this level, it’s about 85%, isn’t it?

Although her proficiency was still far from enough and it took some time to deploy, it seemed that at this rate, she would be able to properly learn combat as a chef before the Sky Island quest began.

But that’s enough for today.

“Haaah… I’m, I’m dying…”

Perhaps running out of mana, Kana disrupted the cutting board she had laid out and collapsed on the ground, and I patted her back while cheerfully exclaiming.

“Wow, I told you you have talent, didn’t I? At this rate, you’re the best chef I’ve seen except for me!”
“R-Really?! Thank you, Master!!”

Kana brightened up and smiled widely at my words. She seemed very happy to hear me say she had talent.

Well, it might be a natural reaction, considering that just two weeks ago, Kana had been despairing over her talent.

Finding that sight somewhat pitiful, I sat down on the stone debris behind the cafeteria and handed Kana a drink I had brought in advance.

“Here, drink this.”
“Ah, thank you.”

A special drink that simply promotes mana recovery.

Kana drank that peach-flavored drink in one gulp, perhaps because she was thirsty, and only then did her body, which had been exhaling fatigue, seem to improve a bit as she slumped down next to me.

“Haah… I feel a bit better now…”
“Good, now rest. The lunch break is almost over, so you need to prepare for class too. You shouldn’t be late like last time, you know.”
“Ugh, I know that.”

At my words, perhaps remembering when she was late two weeks ago after being with Mu, Kana let out a small groan and then lay down completely on the debris.

Looking up at the sky, what could be seen was a blue sky with dark clouds floating. The sun was also hidden behind the clouds, making it a good sky to look up at.

I also looked up at such a sky while propping my arms behind me, and for a moment, a pleasant silence enveloped me and Kana, wrapped in the gentle breeze.

Whooosh───

The wind brushing past our ears. As I was fixing my slightly messed up side hair because of it, suddenly Kana broke the silence and asked me.

“Master! Have you ever fought with your sisters?”
“…Huh?”

Surprised by the sudden question, I turned to look at Kana, and she was looking at me with a face that seemed genuinely curious.

Why is she suddenly interested in other people’s family matters?

I scratched my head at Kana’s out-of-the-blue question, but thinking about it, I could see that it was indeed an interesting question.

Kana thinks both Aria and Yeonhwa are very strong, and she knows that we two are sisters, so she must be curious. Even here, siblings seem to fight each other to the point of not being able to stand each other.

‘Actually, if we’re being precise, Aria is the strongest…’

Among the avatars I have, Aria is by far the strongest.

However, if I assert here that Aria is the strongest, Kana, who calls me Master and follows me, would probably be quite disappointed.

Then, what is the wisest answer here?

I stroked my chin, pondered for a moment, and then found a suitable answer and opened my mouth.

Come to think of it, isn’t everything being relayed to those guys through Kana? Then should I give them a little taste of restraint for the first time?

“We’ve never fought each other, so we don’t know. But since I’m ambiguous, let me just say based on my sisters’ standards, they all have enough skill to kill demon executives.”
“Demon executives…! But is that impressive?”
“Haah… You don’t need to know.”

Skill to kill demon executives. I said that with a grin, but Kana, who had no knowledge about demons, didn’t seem to know how impressive that was.

Looking at Kana, who was tilting her head with wide eyes, I shook my head with a sigh.

At these words of mine, Kana shouted not to treat her like an idiot, but I cleanly ignored it.

Anyway… the most important ones would have heard everything just now.

A large room, neatly arranged. A woman with purple hair sitting on a floating staff burst into laughter.

“Ahaha! This is fun! She knows how to say words that really scratch the itch!”

What was reflected in the crystal ball she was holding was the image of a red-haired chef.

The woman laughed, repeating the words she had said several times, and slowly lowered her staff to move onto the bed.

The people around called the woman Idea.

She was a woman who fought using sorcery, with impressive deep purple hair and sea-blue eyes.

Idea lay face down on the bed, then suddenly turned her head to the side and held out the crystal ball she had been looking at to the woman sitting in a chair.

“Isolde, do you want to see too? She’s saying they can kill us now!”
“…I have ears, so I heard. So put that away.”
“Aw, you’re no fun. Hey, Morgan! How about you?”
“I’ll pass too. I already know their faces.”

At the cold rejection from the purple-haired, blue-eyed woman called Isolde and the white-haired, green-eyed woman called Morgan, Idea snorted and turned her body.

“Geez, what a cold reception for our rare female executive gathering. And that little sister treating her own sister like nothing, it’s ridiculous.”

Idea’s half-childish whining. But shockingly, what came back this time was not even an answer, but silence.

Isolde was concentrating on polishing her staff by hand, while Morgan was sitting on the windowsill, looking down at the scenery outside.

At their attitude showing not even a speck of interest in Idea herself, Idea pulled the blanket at her feet and covered herself with it.

“Ah, forget it! If you’re not going to talk, then don’t!”

It was her last struggle to show that she was truly angry, but when there was still no response from Isolde and Morgan, Idea really quieted down, and only then did Isolde and Morgan slightly smile at the silence that returned to the room.

Splash──

Isolde focused on wiping the blood off her staff with a handkerchief dampened with magically created water, and Morgan looked outside with a slightly ecstatic face, smelling the fishy iron scent.

“Aria and Yujia, Kama, Meiyel, she says…”

The individuals that the hosts with implanted demon parasites judge to be the strongest.

And even though she seems to fall short of them, their sister, the chef, goes as far as to assert that she can kill them.

“…This will be fun.”

Blood, corpses, and lost souls.

Looking down at the sight of the Sky Island, which was horribly revealing the scene of a not-too-old massacre, Morgan muttered softly.

Imagining their strength, which seemed likely to be able to fight in the near future.

Imagining that, Morgan took a deep breath full of the smell of blood with a deep smile.
