Reincarnation into the dark world of Naruto

Chapter 17: Chapter 17

My thoughts shift to something else. What will happen to me? What is my purpose for the clan? Why was all this necessary? Alright, paranoia, shut up. I. Want. To. Believe. I'll think about how they want to use me later. I have time now. That's it. Shut up. I've said everything! A voice of Miory rings in my head: "Calm down, Akira. We are all part of the clan. We all serve it, me, the elders, and Hiashi-dono. The clan uses all of us, you won't be an exception. And that's right, brother. The clan is above everything, and lone wolves are worth exactly as much as others are willing to pay for them. Now, stop crying, you're a Shinobi." I pull my face away from the damp strands of the girl's hair and sniffle. Miory smiles, kisses me on the nose, and softly whispers: "Hello, brother." I grip her so tightly, as much as I can. Hello, sister.

We weren't allowed to sit around for long. Hiashi raised the issue of what to do with the freshly minted Akira Hyuga. Alright. Hizashi has been appointed as my guardian. I can understand their logic here—a boy should be raised by a man. But what came next left me in another stupor. Oki-ni demanded that I begin my training in her branch. A healer, huh? Me, a doctor? Damn. How am I supposed to explain this to them? I'm afraid of blood. But as soon as I tried to stammer something about it, I was firmly told to shut up and listen to the elders if I didn't want to spend my first night in the new house lying on my stomach. Because lying down, or sitting on my rear, I wouldn't be able to for at least a week. The hint was taken correctly—being punished wasn't part of my immediate plans. But thinking about it, there are some perks to being a child. Miory, for example, ended up with her face pressed to the floor for less. The essence did me a favor, shoving me into a child's body. An adult could've been sent to the graveyard for breaking some rule. Ignorance of the law doesn't exempt from responsibility.

Next followed a rather lively discussion. Hizashi, as the official guardian, was allowed to argue even with the elders. After all, the future of his ward was being discussed. And it didn't matter that elder Oki-ni had been appointed as my adoptive mother in the clan. The responsibility to the clan was his. The debate dragged on until the elder spat and openly stated her reasons for her decision, staring Hizashi in the face:

"Hizashi, I understand everything, you're often hit on the head out in the field, but you still need to think—how many Irienins do we have in the clan, remember? Twenty-three, Hizashi! Of them, we are obligated to send ten to the central hospital in Konoha. Three more must remain at the court of the Daimyo. And the rest, you foolish warrior, are buried in work!" The elder spat the words out through her teeth, venom dripping from her tone.

"I understand everything, but someone with the true Byakugan..."

What is this habit of Oki-ni's, interrupting people? Though... since she's managed to live to this age with such habits, she must have something to show for it against those who dislike her way of speaking.

"Should be a warrior, right? A killing machine? Fine! Just think with your head. The boy already has his life center open, do you realize that? He can already start training, of course, after acquiring basic control so he doesn't rip his channels. Or are you suggesting we wait until his 'Yang' opens? And pour all our strength into preparing him, forcing him into Jūken training? One of us is an idiot, Hizashi, and it's definitely not me."

"But..." Hizashi hopelessly tried to insert a word into the elder's flowing speech.

"No buts! Either way, you'll be given time to prepare the boy. By the way, do you even see that the boy is exhausted and unprepared? It'll take tons of time just to restore his physical form, get rid of rickets and similar issues. You can't just grab him and start pushing him like Tori! This isn't a clan child whose ligaments have been stretched since three years old, you fool!"

"Calm down." Hiashi spoke in a tired voice. "Let's do this. Since the boy already has his life center open, there's no choice. We need to start his preparation. But, Oki-ni-sama, I won't allow the clan to be shamed by showing the world an incomplete Byakugan owner. We must have him ready by twelve at the latest for the Genin exam. Or would you like me to remind you that the cursed Hiruzen pushed the law through with the help of Fugaku Uchiha requiring all shinobi to take the Genin exam, regardless of specialization, followed by combat field practice? And that Akira will have to undergo field practice at twelve, regardless? Oki-ni-sama, are you aware of this?"

"I'm aware. That cursed law has already taken the lives of seven owners of the pure Byakugan." Oki-ni spat out the words as if she had bitten into a bitter lemon.

"Really? And who exactly insisted on purely Iryenin training for the owners of single-phase Byakugan, do you remember?" Hiashi's tone was completely neutral. Oki-ni listened to him without interrupting.

"So... What are you proposing, Hiashi-dono?" Now the old woman was ready for constructive talk. Mentally, I applauded Hiashi. He definitely didn't become clan leader for his good looks.

"A balanced approach. The boy will gain all the necessary survival knowledge. But no less than five hours of his day will be devoted to you, for you to use as you see fit."

"Seven!" Oki-ni-sama squinted slightly.

"Five, Elder Oki-ni. As you rightly noted, it'll take time to bring Akira into shape. That's it. The decision is made. The council is concluded."

And so,a new life began for me.
