Reincarnation In Smallville

Chapter 67: The Perfect Property [67]

Clark drove his pickup truck along the rural roads of Smallville, the engine emitting a steady rumble as the landscape slowly passed by the windows. Diana, seated beside him, observed the tranquility of the scenery, but her curiosity soon broke the silence.

"Clark, why didn't you let me see your room?" she asked, leaning slightly toward him, her voice tinged with light teasing.

Clark gave a brief smile, keeping his eyes on the road. "Because, Diana, my room isn't as interesting as you might think. It's just a simple space, full of childhood memories. Nothing worthy of an Amazon warrior."

Diana raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "Even so, it's part of who you are. It contributes to the man you've become. I'd like to see that."

Clark let out a low chuckle but didn't respond immediately. He knew Diana was persistent and that, eventually, she would see everything, but there were more pressing matters at that moment.

After a few minutes of silence, the pickup stopped in front of a picturesque property, with a country house surrounded by tall trees and a well-tended garden. Clark got out of the vehicle, adjusting his jacket before turning to Diana.

"This is the property I want to buy," he said, indicating the house with a gesture. "It's perfect for what we need."

Diana looked around, admiring the tranquility of the place. "It's beautiful, Clark. But are you sure it's for sale? It seems like whoever lives here takes great care of it."

Clark nodded, with a calm expression. "I'll take care of that. Trust me."

The two approached the front door, and a middle-aged man opened it before they could knock. He had graying hair and a welcoming but cautious look.

"Can I help you?" the man asked, casting a curious glance at Clark and Diana.

"Yes, my name is Clark Kent," Clark began, extending his hand. "I was interested in knowing if this property is for sale."

The man laughed lightly, shaking his head. "Sorry, but we're not selling. This house has been in my family for generations. We have no plans to move."

Before Clark could respond, a woman appeared behind the man, drying her hands on an apron. "Who's there, David?"

"Just some visitors," the man replied, looking at her. "They're asking about the house."

Diana smiled kindly at the woman, sensing an opportunity to ease the situation. "Your garden is wonderful," she said, indicating the colorful flowers. "Would you mind if I took a closer look? I've always wanted to learn more about gardens like this."

The woman seemed pleased with Diana's interest. "Of course! Come, I'll show you. I have some roses that are blooming now."

While Diana followed the woman toward the garden, Clark turned his attention back to David. He observed the man for a moment, carefully considering how to proceed.

"David, I know this house holds a lot of sentimental value for you and your wife," Clark said, in a serene tone. "But I'd like you to consider something. Your children live in Metropolis, right? It must be hard being away from them."

David frowned, surprised by the statement. "How do you know that?"

Clark maintained eye contact, activating his mental control ability. His voice became even more persuasive. "You and your wife miss them, don't you? Imagine how nice it would be to live near them again, watching your grandchildren grow up. This house is lovely, but perhaps it's time to start a new chapter."

David blinked a few times, as if trying to process the thoughts now invading his mind. "I... I never thought of it that way. It makes sense, I suppose."

Clark smiled gently. "I will pay a fair price for the property. You can move to Metropolis without financial worries. It will be a smooth transition for you and your family."

David nodded slowly, as if convinced by his own reflections. "I'll talk to my wife about it. I think you might be right."

A few minutes later, Diana returned with David's wife, both smiling. "Your garden is truly impressive," Diana said sincerely. "You have an incredible talent."

The woman smiled but noticed the pensive expression on her husband's face. "David, what happened?"

"I was thinking... maybe we should consider selling the house and moving closer to the kids in Metropolis," David said, looking at her. "Clark is willing to pay a fair price, and it would be nice to be closer to the family."

The woman seemed surprised but didn't immediately reject the idea. She looked at Clark and then at Diana before finally saying, "If it's for the good of the family, I think we can discuss it."

Clark smiled, relieved. "Thank you. You won't regret it."

Diana observed the interaction with a slight smile, suspecting nothing. To her, Clark had merely used his natural persuasion skills to reach an agreement. As they walked back to the pickup, Diana spoke:

"Clark, you really have a way with words. You convinced them so easily."

Clark gave an enigmatic smile, without responding directly. "Sometimes, Diana, people just need a nudge in the right direction."

Clark got into the pickup and, while adjusting the rearview mirror, took his cell phone from his pocket and dialed a number. Diana watched in silence, curious, but respected Clark's privacy, focusing her attention on the landscape as he made the call.

"Lex," Clark said as soon as the call was answered. "I need a favor."

On the other end of the line, Lex was silent for a few seconds before responding, surprised.

"Clark? You're calling me after months without any news? I'm curious to know what happened for you to finally decide to talk to me."

Clark kept his tone calm. "It's a long story, Lex. I'll tell you in person soon. But for now, I need help with a lawyer to finalize the purchase of a property here in Smallville. I'll send you the address."

Lex chuckled lightly, still intrigued. "Of course I'll help. After all, who would've thought the farm boy would end up needing me? Send the address, and I'll take care of it immediately."

"Thank you, Lex. Once this is settled, I promise we'll talk about my... trip." Clark ended the call, placing the cell phone on the truck's console.

Diana turned to him, her gaze curious but still reserved. "Who was that?"

Clark responded casually. "An old friend. I'll introduce you to him soon."

Diana accepted the answer without pressing further, but the mention of a friend clearly piqued her interest. She knew Clark had many layers, and the revelation of yet another only increased her desire to know him better.

The pickup traveled a stretch of road in silence, only the engine's rumble and the sound of tires against the asphalt filling the air. However, Diana couldn't contain her curiosity for long.

"Clark, where are we going now?" she asked, leaning slightly toward him.

Clark gave a slight smile, keeping his eyes on the road. "Our next destination is Metropolis. I want to ensure you have all the necessary documentation to live in this world without issues."

Diana raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Documentation? Are you saying you're going to create an identity for me?"

Before Clark could respond, the firm and resonant voice of Jor-El echoed in his mind, interrupting the moment.

[Kal-El, I must intervene to save time. As an advanced artificial intelligence, I can manipulate the archaic systems of this era with ease. I can provide documentation for your companion in seconds.]

Clark took a deep breath, his expression becoming slightly contemplative before responding mentally.

'Thank you, Jor-El. Do what's necessary, but ensure it's undetectable. She needs something absolutely impeccable.'

[Consider it done, my son. Soon, she will have a fully functional identity in this world.]

Diana noticed the brief change in Clark's expression and tilted her head, a touch of concern in her voice. "Clark, is everything okay?"

Clark quickly returned to the present, offering a reassuring smile. "Yes, Diana. Just thinking about how to make things easier for you. Don't worry; everything will be resolved."

She nodded, though still seeming slightly intrigued. "Easier? You make it sound more like a mission than a favor."

Clark chuckled softly, shifting gears as he looked ahead at the road. "Trust me, Diana, I'm just ensuring you have everything you need to live here without complications. Trust me."

"Clark, what will this... identity be like?" Diana questioned, crossing her arms as she watched the landscape pass by the window. "I don't want something that isn't authentic."

"You'll be like any other person here, Diana," Clark replied, maintaining a calm tone. "Your name will be Diana Prince, 21 years old. A young independent woman who arrived in Metropolis seeking opportunities."

Diana furrowed her brow, clearly intrigued. "21 years old? Clark, you know that's not true. My real age is... quite different."

Clark focused, connecting mentally with her. In an instant, he transmitted essential information about how the modern world operates. Diana saw images, laws, and social norms flash through her mind like an organized stream of data. When he finished, she blinked a few times, assimilating it all.

"I understand," Diana said, relaxing her posture. "Age matters more here than in Themyscira. It makes sense to adapt it."

Clark smiled, pleased with her understanding. "Exactly. Here, it needs to be believable to avoid unnecessary questions."

Diana nodded, now more confident. "Alright, Clark. I trust you to make sure everything is in order."

The truck continued down the road, the engine's hum filling the silence. Finally, Clark turned slightly toward Diana. "We're almost in Metropolis. When we arrive, I'll show you the city. You'll like it."

Diana smiled softly, the wind tousling her hair. "I'm sure I will."

With that, the truck crossed the bridge leading into the city. Metropolis's skyline emerged majestically, skyscrapers gleaming under the sunlight. It was an impressive contrast to the rural landscapes of Smallville. Diana watched attentively, absorbing every detail with curiosity.

"Welcome to Metropolis," Clark said as they entered the city.
