Chapter 8: A Queen Story Part 1

Azuki's creation was a culmination of advanced technologies from three distinct worlds. First, her physiology was modeled after that of Pokémon, granting her unique biological adaptability. Next, she incorporated box weapon technology from Katekyo Hitman Reborn, which allowed her to wield powerful abilities through specialized devices. The most challenging part of her creation, however, involved integrating the essence of an Asauchi—the foundational form of a Zanpakuto. Asauchi are capable of transforming and taking on different forms, making them one of the most versatile and potent tools in existence. After considerable effort, I succeeded in blending these elements, making Azuki similar to a sacred gear that evolves and grows stronger in tandem with Rias's development.

--- Three Years Later ---

Over the past three years, life has been eventful. One particularly unforgettable incident was when Rias, in a bizarre twist of fate, got attacked by a camel during a family outing. The sheer absurdity of the situation had us all in stitches; I even managed to capture the moment on video and, for a bit of mischief, sold it to my big brother and father, earning a tidy sum in return. Meanwhile, I regularly visited Sairaorg's estate for sparring sessions. His growth in combat prowess was remarkable—he had already mastered the ability to generate small shockwaves with his punches. Each match pushed both of us to our limits, though he could never quite defeat me. Nonetheless, his unwavering determination was something I deeply respected, and it spurred me on to improve even further.

We also welcomed a new guest into our household—Akeno Himejima. Born of both human and fallen angel blood, Akeno had lived a troubled life, constantly on the run due to her mixed heritage. She sought refuge under the protection of the Gremory family after being relentlessly hunted by her clan, who deemed her existence an abomination. Fortunately, my sister was in the human world when Akeno's situation escalated. With the aid of my father's bishop, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, she managed to negotiate a pact ensuring Akeno's safety as long as she remained under Gremory protection.

Akeno's arrival brought a shift in our household's dynamic. Initially quiet and reserved, she soon opened up and bonded closely with Rias. The two became fast friends, often seen laughing together or scheming about mischief. I had briefly hoped that Akeno's presence would mean fewer interruptions from Rias. Unfortunately, that was wishful thinking—Rias began bringing Akeno along whenever she decided to intrude on my work in the lab. What made matters worse was Rias's newfound smugness; she constantly bragged about having a head start in assembling her peerage. As my twin, she excelled at knowing exactly how to get under my skin, spurring me to intensify my search for a Queen.

--- Maxius's Lab ---

In my lab, I sat at my desk, surrounded by stacks of files filled with photos, names, and detailed background information. Each profile represented a potential candidate for my peerage, and each decision carried significant weight. As I methodically reviewed the files, one in particular caught my attention. The photo depicted a girl around my age, with long, flowing gray hair and striking yellow eyes that seemed to shimmer with latent power. Even from the still image, her beauty was evident, but more than that, there was something about her presence that intrigued me.

Her name was Katsumi Kushihashi, a descendant of the prestigious Kushihashi clan—one of the five principal Shinto mystic clans known for their long-standing service to the Shinto gods, often revered as the divine guardians of balance. Each of these clans wielded mastery over a fundamental element tied to ancient spiritual forces: the Himejima clan commanded the unyielding flames of purification, the Shinra clan harnessed the indomitable strength of metal, the Doumon clan manipulated the fluid and adaptable essence of water, the Nakiri clan governed the steadfast and nurturing force of earth, and the Kushihashi clan wielded the enigmatic and ever-growing power of wood, symbolizing life and renewal.

Despite the Kushihashi clan's noble heritage, Katsumi's life had been marked by hardship and rejection. The principal clans, renowned for their strict devotion to the divine blessings granted by the Shinto gods, were unforgiving toward those they deemed unworthy. Being born without the blessing was seen as a disgrace, and Katsumi bore the brunt of that prejudice. Cast out and left to fend for herself, she faced a world that viewed her as an outcast.

However, Katsumi refused to let the weight of rejection break her spirit. With nothing but her innate talent and unyielding determination, she immersed herself in the study of Eastern magic. Her efforts bore fruit, transforming her into a prodigy, one whose mastery of magic was achieved through relentless practice rather than divine favor. Despite being shunned by her family, she cultivated a strength that rivaled even those blessed by the gods.

Her story was one of defiance and perseverance, a tale that resonated deeply with me. Katsumi had not only survived but thrived in a world that had tried to diminish her. Her inner strength, her ability to push beyond the limitations imposed by others, made her extraordinary. She stood out not merely because of her magical prowess, but because of the sheer force of will that drove her forward. It was this indomitable spirit that made her truly exceptional—a beacon of potential waiting to be fully realized.

Despite her noble lineage, Katsumi's life had been anything but privileged. Rejected by her family due to her lack of divine blessing, she was cast out into a harsh world that seemed determined to see her fail. Yet, rather than succumbing to despair, she chose a different path. Instead of allowing her circumstances to define her, Katsumi devoted herself to mastering the arcane arts of Eastern magic. Each day was a battle against the odds, but she persevered, driven by an unrelenting desire to prove her worth. Over time, her skills grew formidable, transforming her from a forgotten outcast into a prodigy in her own right.

.Katsumi is a shining example of what could be achieved through sheer willpower. It was clear to me that she possessed not only the strength but also the determination to rise above her circumstances and carve out her own destiny. That indomitable spirit, so rare and precious, made her an ideal candidate—not just for my peerage but for someone who could stand beside me in the trials ahead.

That's why I knew, without a doubt, that Katsumi would be the perfect Queen for my peerage. Not just to test my theories about latent potential and personal growth, but because she had the fire of someone destined to stand at the top.

As I closed the file, my mind raced with plans. Fortunately, my two trusted employees had already laid the groundwork for my venture into the human world. This pair of lovebirds, whose lives I had saved using my modified Gigai, had proven to be invaluable. Out of gratitude, they had established a thriving company in the human world, providing both financial resources and an extensive information network. Every bit of intelligence they gathered was relayed to me through the encrypted Ethernet network I had given them access to.

According to their latest report, Katsumi was in danger. An organization known as the Utsusemi Agency had been pursuing her, intent on recruiting her by any means necessary. Time was of the essence—if I didn't act quickly, they might succeed in taking what I had already claimed as mine.

--- An Abandoned Shrine ---

At a small, deserted shrine, a young girl in a white and blue shrine maiden outfit gazed at the stars, lost in thought. Katsumi had been wandering from town to town, offering purification services to make a living. It was during her travels that she encountered agents from the Utsusemi Agency, who persistently tried to recruit her, encouraging her to seek revenge on the five principal clans.

Despite her anger and sorrow at being cast out, Katsumi refused their offer. She didn't want to destroy the clan, no matter how they had wronged her.

"What should I do now?" she murmured.

"How about you follow me on an adventure?"

The sudden voice startled Katsumi, pulling her out of her thoughts. She turned to see a boy around her age with crimson hair and a white lab coat, smiling at her.

"Who are you?" she asked warily.

"Ah, forgive my manners," he said with a polite bow. "I am Maxius Gremory, second in line to the House of Gremory and younger brother to Sirzechs Lucifer, one of the rulers of the underworld."

"Gremory? That makes you a devil," she said, stepping back cautiously.

"Guilty as charged. So, what do you say? Will you join me on an adventure?"

"Why would I follow you? You're a devil," she replied.

"And what does that matter?"

"Devils are evil."

"Oh? Do I look evil to you?" Maxius asked with a smirk, his crimson hair gleaming faintly under the dim light of the shrine. "Unlike those people or your clan, I won't turn my back on you. You see, I don't care about the blessings of gods or the labels others give. What matters to me is potential and character. And from what I see, you have both in abundance."

Katsumi hesitated, her mind racing. "What do you want from me?"

"I want someone to stand by my side—not just as a subordinate, but as an equal, someone whose strength and resolve match my own. I need a partner I can trust with my life, someone who can guard my back in the face of any danger. That's why I want you to be my Queen."

"Your Queen?" Katsumi's face turned red at the implication, thinking he was proposing marriage.

"Yes, my Queen, as part of my peerage."

"But why me? Surely there are others better suited for the role."

"Perhaps, but you intrigue me. You have great potential, and I want to help you prove to your family that they were wrong to cast you aside."

Katsumi's heart raced. Something about Maxius's sincerity and confidence resonated with her.

Before she could respond, a shimmering magic circle materialized on the ground nearby, emitting a faint, ominous glow. Moments later, a group of people stepped out of the circle, their expressions cold and determined. Katsumi recognized them immediately—they were agents from the Utsusemi Agency, a relentless organization that had pursued her for months. Their dark cloaks and steely gazes made it clear that they had no intention of leaving without her.

"Katsumi, we've come to take you back with us," said a man with brown hair.

"I already told you, I don't want to join your group!"

The man sneered. "Do you want to live your life in shame, forever known as a reject?"

Maxius stepped forward, placing himself between Katsumi and the agents. "So what if she was cast out? That doesn't define her worth. She's someone who refuses to be held back by her past—unlike you."

"And who might you be?" the man asked.

Maxius smiled confidently. "You can call me the Devil of Creation."

"The Devil of Creation? Quite the grand title for someone so young," the man said mockingly, a smirk forming on his face. "Judging by your crimson hair and that name, I'd wager you're from the Gremory clan—the infamous one born without the power of destruction, unlike your illustrious siblings. It must be difficult, living in their shadow, always being compared to their greatness."

Katsumi glanced at Maxius, realizing he was just like her—someone who had been judged harshly by others for lacking a supposedly essential power. Yet, despite the expectations and prejudices they both faced, here he stood, confident and undeterred. In that moment, she saw in him a reflection of her own struggle—an unwavering determination to rise above limitations and prove that strength came not from what others granted, but from what one forged within themselves.

"So what if I don't have it? I'm strong enough without it," Maxius declared.

"Oh? Let's see about that." The agent launched a powerful blast of magic at Maxius.

"Katsumi, get behind me!" Maxius shouted.

"Millón Escudo!"
