Chapter 4: Egg Hatches

Gremory Territory

Maxius Lab

It's been several days since the egg was created, and my sister has practically become its guardian. She's been spending every available moment observing it, her curiosity seemingly growing with each passing day. This egg, this unknown creation, has captivated not only her but also everyone else in the castle—from the lowliest servant to my parents themselves. There is an undeniable excitement in the air. What kind of creature will hatch from this mysterious egg?

The news of my creation has also drawn the attention of the Four Great Satans. When my brother heard about the new species I had engineered, his pride was so immense that it turned into pure bragging. He immediately rounded up two of the other Satans to come see it, though the fourth one, as usual, was far too lazy to make an appearance.

That's when I first encountered Serafall Leviathan in all her colorful glory. Wearing her signature pink magical girl outfit, her twin-tailed hair bouncing with every movement, she stood out in the room like a burst of light. Her enthusiasm was as vivid as her appearance. Serafall, the older sister of my sister's best friend, Sona Sitri, was an eccentric woman, full of charm and unpredictability. Like my sister, Sona was heir to the Sitri family, and I could see some of Serafall's energetic personality reflected in her.

Serafall: "Wow, so this is the new species that Ma-chan created!" She clapped her hands, her voice tinged with excitement. "So-tan told me about this a few days ago, and I've been dying to see it in person! I can't wait to find out what's inside!" She twirled around, shaking her hands in the air, her childlike excitement evident to all.

Sirzechs: "I know, right? The suspense is unbearable!" My older brother, Sirzechs, stood next to her, grinning ear to ear, his eyes fixed on the egg. There was a spark of mischievousness in his expression, as though he were a child waiting for a surprise.

I stood slightly to the side, watching the scene unfold with a sense of growing embarrassment. This is my older brother, I thought to myself, feeling a familiar wave of discomfort. It's not enough that he and Father have a habit of secretly taking photos of me and Rias... now this? I buried my face in one hand, unable to hide my frustration.

Ajuka: "That's just the kind of guy he is. Don't take him too seriously."

I turned to my left and saw Ajuka Beelzebub, the creator of the Evil Pieces system and the mastermind behind the Rating Games. His calm demeanor contrasted sharply with the rest of the room's chaos. Ajuka, with his light blue eyes and slicked-back green hair, was one of the most brilliant minds in the Underworld, and his intelligence was matched only by his knack for seeing through people's motives. Even though his reputation preceded him, he had a certain warmth that made him approachable—at least, to a degree.

Ajuka: "I must say, creating something out of nothing at such a young age is impressive. It shows a level of wisdom that's rare among younger devils. I'm curious to see what you will create next." His words were sincere, though I could see the analytical gleam in his eyes as he sized up the situation. He gave me a subtle nod of approval before turning to leave. "Keep it up, Maxius. You might just surprise us all."

Two Days Later

The day had finally arrived. The egg was ready to hatch, and I had everything prepared for the momentous occasion. I transported it to the viewing room, where I'd set up all the recording and sensory equipment necessary for the event. Every detail was meticulously planned; I wasn't going to leave anything to chance.

I sent out invitations to those who'd expressed interest—my family, the Satans, and a few trusted servants. The room was filled with anticipation as I placed the egg in the center for all to see. Everyone was on edge, eagerly waiting for the moment when the egg would crack open.

Then, the egg began to glow. At first, it was a faint shimmer, but soon it became a brilliant light that enveloped the entire room. We all watched in awe as the light pulsed and flickered, almost as if the egg itself were alive. When the light finally began to fade, the transformation was complete.

The creature inside had emerged.

What we saw before us was unlike anything we had expected—a Devi-beast with predominantly white fur, and the tip of its fluffy tail was black. It had slender, short legs with three small toes, and each foot bore a pink paw pad that contrasted against the surrounding black fur. Its large blue eyes seemed to take in the room, filled with wonder and confusion. The creature's long, pointed ears, with their pink interiors, gave it an almost otherworldly look. Its tiny black nose twitched, and its large eyes scanned the faces around it, clearly startled by the sudden attention.

The room fell silent.

For a moment, no one moved. It was as though everyone was waiting for something, some clue as to what would happen next. Then, the Devi-beast looked around in fear, its body tensing as it seemed to consider escaping.

Without hesitation, I stepped forward, gently placing a hand on its head to calm it. The creature flinched at first, but when it realized I meant no harm, it relaxed into my touch.

Turning to face the crowd, I made my announcement:

"Everyone, please meet the very first Devi-beast I've created—Evira!"

The little creature looked up at me, its eyes bright and innocent. With a joyful squeak, it jumped into my hands, its tiny paws gripping my arm as it snuggled close.

"E-e-e!" It squeaked again, as though expressing its own excitement at the attention it was receiving.

Serafall: "Awwww! It's sooooo cute!" Her voice rose with excitement as she clapped her hands together, practically bouncing on her heels.

Before I could react, I found myself bombarded by a wave of affection. My mother, my sister, Serafall, Sona, and all the female servants swarmed me. Each one tried to get their hands on the little creature, fawning over it as though it were the most precious thing in the world.

I barely managed to extricate myself from the situation, but not without sacrificing poor Evira, who had now become the center of attention in my sister's arms. She looked up at me with pleading eyes, silently begging for help.

I feel your pain, little one, I thought, silently praying for her survival as I made a mock gesture of prayer.

Behind me, I could hear my brother's voice, chuckling with a hint of surprise.

Sirzechs: "That was certainly unexpected. I really thought it would be some kind of reptile or bird."

Zeoticus: "I agree, but this little thing is undeniably cute." My father's voice was warm, but I could sense a hint of pride in it. After all, his son had created something remarkable.

Sirzechs: "Even Grayfia ran over to pet it!" He gestured towards his wife, who had joined the group of women, all of them fawning over Evira.

Ajuka: "I agree. It's a fascinating creature." He paused for a moment, then turned his gaze towards me. "Maxius, why did you create this particular creature? There must be a deeper purpose behind it."

I stiffened. It seemed that even the sharp-eyed Ajuka had figured out there was more to this creation than met the eye. I couldn't let my true intentions be discovered so easily—not yet. But then again, he was Ajuka Beelzebub, the brilliant mind who had crafted the Evil Pieces system. It was no surprise he could see through me.

Maxius: "I created Evira because I wanted to study evolution. Devi-beasts are unique creatures that evolve as they grow stronger, eventually reaching their final or 'adult' form. Evira, however, is special."

Ajuka: "Special how?"

Maxius: "Evira is unique because it has eight possible evolutionary paths. Its genetic structure is irregular, and that makes it highly susceptible to environmental factors. I believe the conditions in the Underworld might cause Evira to evolve in ways that are completely unexpected."

Ajuka: "Interesting... It's the perfect specimen to study evolution, then." He nodded, clearly impressed by my reasoning. "I can see the potential in this."

With that, Ajuka joined my father, brother, and the other servants to join the throng of women around Evira, all of them marveling at the creature's cuteness.

What they didn't know, however, was that my true motive wasn't just to study evolution. No, I had much grander plans. My research into Devi-beasts was only a stepping stone toward my true goal—to create a new type of **Gigai
