Chapter 40: The Bull's Head
—You and Job have a drink. We have to go to work in the afternoon.
Ethan took the black plastic bag Job gave him, put his share of the money in the bag, and then quickly tied a knot.
—Well, I have decided we are going to the club, tonight the house invites. — Sugar said, stroking the bottle of wine in his hand and smiling.
— Are you sure? —Ethan asked.
Job showed a smile and looked at Ethan.
Last time, the three of them stole a body and went to the Savoyard Gentlemen's Club for two hours to have fun. When they returned to Ethan's house, Sugar drank two bottles of whiskey by himself and his face turned red and he passed out on the carpet in his house.
— Incredible! This stingy old man has finally opened his wallet. —Job joked.
Hood was also encouraged and started joking along with Job. Last time, these three had a great time at the strip club, causing his bank account to bleed, and now, of course, he wanted revenge now.
—Of course I'm sure —Sugar said, looking at Ethan who was smiling at him and closing his eyes in anguish.
—Okay, it's just a joke. Everyone, pay attention. Please everyone relax, for a while until things get cold, don't let them see you driving a sports car two days after a robbery at an armored truck. We cannot take risks —Job warned seriously.
—Don't worry, there are no idiots here —Sugar agreed.
At that moment, Job looked at the last pile of money left on the pool table and asked:
— When will Carrie come?
Hood shook his head and said in a deep voice:
—I'll see you tonight. Today he is going to say goodbye to his family. Tomorrow I will send her to Mercer County State Women's Prison. You can help her hide the money. When she gets out of prison, you can give it to her.
Job nodded and kept the remaining money in the bag.
When she was about to leave the bar, Ethan suddenly remembered something and stopped. He let Hood go first and then returned to Job.
Job had just sat down and turned on the computer when he saw Ethan approaching and looked at him curiously.
— Do you need something? —Job asked.
Ethan brought the chair closer, sat down.
—I need your help on something. Could you help me?
Job closed the laptop and said:
—It depends, but I'll see what I can do.
—I want to install a security system on my property. For example, upgrading the fence around the perimeter of my property, maybe with some motion sensors and installing a surveillance system. You can help?
—To improve the fence, you can find a construction team in the city. As for the monitoring system ...
After Job reflected for a while, he said:
—I need to go to your house to take a look. When will you be free?
—How about time —Ethan said decisively.
Job had no choice but to nod, pack his things, say goodbye to Sugar, and leave the Davis Bar with Ethan.
They soon arrived at Ethan's residence. Job walked around the house, thought for a while, and then said,
—I think I can do something, but I'm going to need to go back to New York and find you something good, I'll install a remote monitoring system for you, you can see it even from your mobile phone, if someone appears in the range of monitoring sensors, I will send you an alert over the phone and you will be able to see live images.
Ethan's eyes lit up, that was exactly what he wanted, on more than one occasion he had had unexpected visitors, until now he had been friendly. He quickly said to Job:
—It's just what I need, I've had surprise visitors lately. You can fix everything, just pass me the cost and I'll pay for it.
Job said nonchalantly:
—The equipment is not expensive, about Fifty thousand will be more than enough. It is mainly technical, and I can handle it myself.
Ethan immediately opened the black plastic bag in his hand, counted 60,000, and handed it to Job.
—So, I leave it to you.- I exclaim delivering several bundles of bills.
— Fuck you! I don't need this. — Job replied, returning the extra ten thousand. — I owe you one, so I spend it in the morgue last time, take it as a favor.
—As you say, but the next time we go to the Club, let me invite you.
Ethan put the money back in the bag.
—But next time I will take you to New York, you will find it much better than this town club.
Job hid the money in the car, waved his hand, and his yellow convertible threw a puff of smoke and left quickly.
Ethan shook his head; this guy always does the most interesting things. Job was one of those people you can trust with your life, and with his hacker skills it was a good idea to keep him close.
He threw the remaining money into space and, after finishing the surveillance system, thought that it was necessary to improve the fences of the property. He got into the police car and headed towards the city.
With Siobhan's help, Ethan found another construction company. After a discussion, the construction company will rebuild the perimeter fence of Ethan's property, according to its own requirements. To improve security, a remote-controlled electric iron door will be installed, not far from the private path that enters your home.
Although the price rose due to the high labor cost, it was worth spending more money to live more safely, after all this life was the most valuable thing for him.
Three weeks later ....
At Ethan's urging, the fence renovation project was quickly completed a few days later, Job also returned from New York and installed a surveillance system on the property without much effort.
Things continued, Carrie was jailed as planned, and Hood after a few days finally returned to normal, after being depressed for a few days.
That day Ethan and Brock were on patrol next to Proctor's slaughterhouse. Proctor and Burton stood at the entrance to the slaughterhouse receiving cattle, and occasionally mooed from outside the car window.
Seeing the police car appear, Proctor gestured with interest. Then she looked at him, took her cell phone out of her pants pocket, and answered the call.
Ethan sat in the passenger seat and casually greeted in response.
Brock held the wheel, turned to Ethan, and said,
—Proctor's business is getting bigger. Look at these cattle cars. How much do they cost?
Looking at several transport trucks parked outside the slaughterhouse, Ethan casually replied:
— How are things going between you and Emily?
Emily is Brock's ex-wife, because she worked excessively for many years, when she felt alone she decided to have an affair. The two divorced because of this a year ago, but she found out that Emily seemed to want to be together again, so she had been persuading him.
—I'm not stupid enough to go back to that woman, I've never felt so free as last year. — Brock said harshly, then he stepped on the gas.
Looking at the donuts placed in Brock's middle and belly storage compartment, Ethan shook his head helplessly. Suddenly, there was a loud noise from an explosion and the car body vibrated violently, and his arms also began to tremble.
He hurriedly stepped on the brake and the police car staggered to a stop. The two frightened people were about to get out of the car to see what was happening with a loud noise hitting the metal and blood dripping onto the car like raindrops, instantly staining the glass with red.
The next instant there was another impact on the car, and the windshield was shattered. Reflectively they raised their arms to block the flying glass fragments.
When the movement disappeared, Ethan lowered his arm. At that time, a huge bloody bull's head was embedded in the windshield in front of it.
They had seen many corpses, but it was the first time they found a bull's head embedded in the windshield.
Ethan quickly removed the broken glass from his body, opened the door, and got out of the car. As soon as his boots touched the ground, he felt a strange sensation. He looked down and saw a bloody intestine under his feet. He kicked the intestines with disgust. Near them were all kinds of parts of a cow, and the air was filled with the smell of dung and blood.
— Shet! —cursed Brock as he got out of the car, looking at the scene in front of him and pressing the radio —. Sergeant, there was an explosion at the Proctor slaughterhouse. Ethan and I are going to review the situation, call the emergency teams.
—Copied, Emmett, Siobhan will see them on site. — He ordered Hood's voice on the radio. Whatever happens, Proctor ran many industries locally and paid a large amount of taxes each year. His wages were financed by local taxes and, in a way, Proctor was his financial backing.
Ethan ignored Brock and ran forward, with pieces of meat scattered everywhere along the way. One of the trucks carrying cattle had its cabin completely blown up. The truck next door was also affected, and the cattle caught in the truck groaned in horror.
— How are you? You are injured? —Ethan asked as he helped the slaughterhouse worker sit down.
Not far away, Proctor, who was lying on the ground, picked up the mobile phone that had fallen and stood up. He looked at the phone with cold eyes and said:
—Alex, you will regret this.
Proctor's voice was strong and Ethan could hear it clearly. Just as Banshee seemed to be returning to peace, Alex gave Proctor a surprise.
Seeing Ethan appear nearby, Burton stepped aside in front of Proctor and looked at him suspiciously.
—Relax, I think Officer Ethan doesn't want to hurt me —Proctor said as he hung up the phone after listening for a few seconds. He put the phone in his pants pocket and dusted off.
Looking at the mess outside the slaughterhouse door, Alex's expression of gloating unfortunately disappeared from his face.
Other members of the police department quickly arrived at the scene. Fortunately, the explosion was primarily aimed at the transport truck. There were no victims, except Proctor, who flew through the air due to the explosion.
Similar to Alex's reaction earlier, Proctor also seemed completely absorbed when Emmett made his statement.
— How should I say it? It seems they don't want us to meddle — Emmett said reluctantly as he approached with the transcript.
—Fuck, you can see at a glance that this is retaliation from the Kinaho tribe and Alex for what happened before —Brock said angrily as he looked at his car, stained with cow blood.
—Okay, so let them kill each other. As long as no civilian is harmed, they can fight as much as they want, just as we cannot pressure them if they don't want to speak. —Hood decided as he looked at Proctor and headed for the slaughterhouse.
That night, at the Davis Bar, while chatting with Job, Ethan felt someone sit next to him. She turned around and found out she was the black-haired girl from before. The woman asked for a bottle of beer and took a sip, then saw Ethan's gaze.
— Did you miss something? —asked.
—Hi, I'm Ethan — Ethan said with a smile, extending the palm of his hand.
—Nora, Nora Longshadow — she replied, ignoring Ethan's outstretched hand — I remind you of the last time, you were the guy who used a badge to chase away drunkards.
—I have also heard of you, the rebellious daughter of the former chief of the Kinaho tribe —Ethan said.
Nola left the bottle and commented:
— Rebelde? Does my reputation seem to have improved?
Ethan smiled and withdrew his hand. Indian beauty in front of him was Alex Longshadow's younger sister. Raised in a comfortable environment where her family did not face great concerns, she always searched beyond limits, eager to experience the forbidden, driven by her curious and reckless nature, always in search of something more exciting or dangerous.
After the old boss discovered that Nora was addicted to drugs, he kicked her out of the house, frustrated that he had failed to persuade her to change. Several years passed before Nola returned to the Kinaho tribe, already free from her addictions.
Despite her accomplishments and contributions to the tribe, resentment at her father's rejection never abandoned her, and she rarely stayed home for long. Now aware of the conflict between Alex and Proctor, he made the decision to stay and support Alex in the coming battle.
Ethan perked up, raised his glass and said:
—So can I buy you a drink?
Nora looked him up and down and replied:
—Sorry, I don't like skinny or pretty kids like you.
— Pffft! —Job said, he couldn't help but spit the wine in his mouth.
—Hey Job I just cleaned friend —said Candy, watching him from across the bar and fast approaching with a towel.
—Just clean up old bastard again —Job apologized laughing out loud as he slapped Ethan on the shoulder.
Ethan seemed embarrassed, the clothes he wore made him look slim, but when he took off his clothes the story was different. The nice boy good at it was right, but being skinny that if it hit his ego
Seeing Job like this, Nora was confused, took the beer bottle and asked:
— What are you laughing at? Did I say something funny?
—Nothing, but you're right in what you said about this gallant is totally true. A handsome guy like him could only trick young girls ... or maybe some naive puppy —Job said, seeing that the girl was beginning to get upset.
After compensating Nola, he also held out his hand and said:
—You are a very interesting person, I like your style.
—Yours is not bad, I also like —Nora replied as they held hands and pointed to the clothes they were wearing.
—Thank God, there is finally someone here who knows —style, Jabber said, emphasizing his point while looking at Ethan — This is Diane Von Fürstenberg's work, but there are idatras who just think it's just a layer.
Ethan turned his head annoyed to realize that he was totally ignored as unexpectedly, Nola and Job, quickly hit it off, this guy just moved in with Ethan, and then they both argued over various fashion garments and famous designers.
After listening to the conversation for a while, Ethan got bored and started playing alone on his mobile phone. Unexpectedly, he received good news. Blake told him on social media that he was going to Pennsylvania to visit his uncle for a couple of days, and he wants to spend a day with him in Banshee.
Of course, Ethan would not reject her, as she had often told him that she wanted to visit him and was just looking for the perfect excuse to be absent from college. After agreeing on a schedule with Blake and chatting a few words, he went home.
Early the next morning, he got out of his patrol car when he got to the police station. Before he could close the car door, he saw Proctor walking directly towards him with a serious face.
— Where's Rebecca? —Proctor asked.
