Reincarnated as a Dragon and Raised by a Demon

Chapter 7

Solche answered the question from a person named Den simply.

“It was a measure to prevent problems with the building during the magic class.”

“Hm. For that, there’s no particular trace of magic.”

Den quickly scanned the interior of the classroom.

Bang!

Jema, who had been listening to the conversation, created a fireball in her hand and threw it at the wall.

“Is that enough?”

Seeing this, Den stepped back, wearing a satisfied expression with a broad smile.

“That person looks a bit dangerous.”

“Yeah, this time the Headmaster sent proper supervision.”

The two exchanged words with quite serious expressions.

“Looks ordinary though?”

“Didn’t you sense the murderous intent radiating from that person at all?”

Not at all.

After Den visited, the class content changed.

“Focus and track your target.”

Solche began teaching me and Jema a tracking spell.

The target was Den, who had just walked through the classroom.

I pulled the mana like a thread and reached the location of the target.

“Did you succeed?”

“No. It’s not the mana of that person….”

I was focused when I opened my eyes upon hearing a voice from the side.

“I attached it.”

“What?”

“I attached the thread of mana to that person, Den.”

Jema looked at me in disbelief, much more surprised than Solche.

“How did you do that? The mana disappears when it approaches that person.”

“I just put it in, and it went in.”

“That can’t be possible….”

Jema closed her eyes and muttered something under her breath.

The tracking spell sent the current location of Den.

The scene naturally came into my mind.

The Headmaster’s office.

Den was greeting politely and having a conversation with the Headmaster.

“Can’t we hear their conversation?”

“If you activate it, the other party will notice that the tracking spell is attached to them.”

There was no way to do it for now.

First, I conveyed the things that came to my mind to Solche and Jema.

Den and the Headmaster talked for quite a long time.

Den would say something, and the Headmaster would respond in kind.

Given Den’s polite demeanor, it seemed the Headmaster was issuing commands.

“Residential district 38-15.”

“What’s that?”

“The Headmaster wrote it down and handed it over.”

Jema pulled out a city map from the bookshelf, and Solche quickly located it.

“It was an empty lot on the old map.”

“What about now?”

“There’s a five-story building there.”

Solche pointed out the window.

A five-story building visible from the Academy.

“The Tholis Building.”

A five-story building built to commemorate exchanges beyond the gate.

“We can’t get in there.”

“Neither can I.”

“Why not?”

“Only nobles have access to that place.”

It was a location strictly restricted for entry in the kingdom.

Rumor has it there were casinos and various entertainment facilities inside.

When nobles from surrounding countries visited, it was a must-visit course.

“Thanks to that, a new source of income has emerged for the Kingdom of Tholis.”

“Why would the Headmaster call Den there?”

In response to Jema’s question, I recalled a distant memory.

The overtime work that required treating my boss even after work hours.

Den was probably in a similar situation now.

Den received a piece of paper with an address and a small piece of metal.

“That’s probably the item needed to enter the building.”

I wanted to know what the Headmaster and Den were discussing, but there was no way to find out anymore.

“Just in case, keep the tracking spell active today.”

“Okay. It’s not that difficult.”

Other than occasional images popping up, it wasn’t too troublesome.

I confirmed that Den left the Headmaster’s office and was heading outside the Academy.

“I don’t think there’s any worry about being watched.”

“It’s already too late.”

Looking out the window, it was already dismissal time.

Students were pouring out, and the sun was setting.

“Let’s head back.”

“Yeah.”

When we returned to the dorm room, I recorded the faint images I had received on paper.

“Whenever I get close, the mana disappears no matter how much I try.”

Back in the room, Jema was attempting the tracking spell on Den once again.

“When I get within about 15 meters, the mana just vanishes.”

“Have you tried making it like a thread?”

“Yeah. I tried what Ririan suggested, but it still disappeared.”

Not only Jema, but Solche’s tracking spells also vanished nearby.

Among the three spells, only mine reached Den.

“What on earth is that guy’s identity?”

“If he’s skilled, he might be a magic swordsman.”

“No. I felt a different energy that wasn’t mana from that person.”

A different energy that wasn’t mana.

There was only one guess.

“Divine Power.”

“Could that person be a paladin?”

Jema scribbled something in her notebook and cast a spell.

“Got it! Connected tracking and eavesdropping!”

“But that’ll get detected, right?”

“I modified the spell a bit. But I can’t hear it.”

Jema lightly tapped the spot beside her.

When I sat next to her, Jema wrapped her arm around my shoulder and laid me on her lap.

“Focus.”

“Uh, okay.”

As I concentrated, the noise of the city began to faintly reach me.

Eventually, I could hear Den’s muttering.

“Children of the demon race….”

Den wandered the streets until it grew dark.

As time passed, he walked toward the Tholis Building.

At the entrance of the Tholis Building, he presented the piece of metal he received from the Headmaster to the guards.

Upon seeing the metal, the guards bowed deeply as they greeted him.

The first and second floors were ordinary dining areas.

The third floor was a casino, and the fourth floor was filled with half-naked women.

Finally reaching the fifth floor, the Headmaster was waiting there.

Den greeted him with the utmost respect.

“Headmaster.”

“Welcome, Den.”

In contrast to the silent Headmaster’s office, the two spoke politely to each other.

“It’s very quiet here.”

“From this time forward, access will be restricted.”

The Headmaster stated that he rented out the fifth floor.

Soon after, they drank prepared food and drinks while chatting.

Even so, several important words were noted down separately.

“Does the exploration team to the gate do well?”

“They’re quite capable.”

“Steve is excellent. He caught one or two monsters by himself.”

“He’s the pride of our Academy.”

Den seemed well aware of how Steve was doing after crossing over to the gate.

After that, the conversation between the two became quite shocking.

“Why did you enroll demon race children?”

“Isn’t it good to tame them in the name of education and then sell them as mercenaries?”

“Demon race mercenaries would be good for espionage, wouldn’t they?”

“The advantage is that if they become unnecessary, no one cares if they are discarded.”

The conversation between the Headmaster and Den flowed with things we shouldn’t know.

As the idle chatter between the two extended, Jema cut off the spell.

Upon opening my eyes, I felt like I had a dream where I became Den.

“Are you tired?”

“A little.”

I felt somewhat heavier than usual.

“So, what did you hear?”

“Steve went to the gate, and he said he’d throw us away when we become unnecessary.”

If I hadn’t met Solche and Alium.

I would have been doing what the Headmaster ordered to free Jema from her shackles.

Fortunately, there’s now a solution, although it takes some time.

“It would be better to remove that as soon as possible.”

“Hmm. I think there’s a better way.”

Jema explained the plan she had in mind based on what I shared.

“What do you think?”

“Definitely seems a bit safer that way.”

The Headmaster appeared to have thoughts of using us as training tools for the students or sending us as spies to Roran’s territory.

Being sent as spies was rather what I desired.

Zing!

In an instant, a strong image flashed into my mind.

“A key!”

The image of the Headmaster showing some key to Den.

That would surely be the key to disarming the bomb inside Jema.

“The Headmaster has it!”

“I’ve definitely made up my mind.”

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to kill Juan and the Headmaster too.”

Thinking about what I had to do, my heart began to race.

Deep into the night, Jema and I did not sleep.

Receiving the moonlight pouring through the window, we became immersed in our mana meditation.

My current goal was to comprehend an attack spell.

Before entering meditation, Jema pointed out a few key points.

However, none of what she suggested matched at all.

Ultimately, I returned to square one and kept rotating the mana throughout my body.

Realizing something from the confrontation with Juan.

Mana itself could exert considerable power.

Certainly, Juan hadn’t used magic at that time.

In a desperate situation, he must have shaped the mana and swung it.

Then, my mana should have a similar ability.

Picking up distant objects couldn’t simply be all there was to mana’s capability.

I opened my eyes and placed threads of mana on each fingertip.

Though it was called thread, if I wished, I could freely change its properties.

Bringing objects closer was now far too easy.

As for its power, I planned to experiment with the training field’s scarecrow at dawn.

The training field in the early morning was dark and silent.

Jema was still engaged in her meditation.

Worried that waking her might disturb her, I quietly left the room alone.

Tsutsutsu.

The threads of mana extending from my fingertips wrapped around the nearby scarecrows.

With a slight exertion of force, the scarecrows began to be severed.

Thud. Thud-thud.

Dozens of scarecrows were split into numerous pieces.

I didn’t know who would clean up the training field, but they would have quite a tough time today.

Leaving the disheveled training field behind, I returned to the room.

I locked eyes with Jema, who seemed to have just woken up and was chewing on a piece of bread.

“Where did you go?”

“Just a little walk.”

“Here, Ririan, eat this too.”

Jema tossed me a bread roll the size of her fist.

After finishing breakfast, I headed to the Academy with a more confident stride than usual.

Now that we showed up, none of the children whispered anymore.

Thanks to the rumors spreading pretty quickly about my confrontation with Juan.

In front of the classroom hallway, there was a desk, and Den was sitting there.

“Oh, you’re a student here?”

“I’m not a student; I’m this way.”

I lightly pointed to Jema.

When Den looked over, Jema squeezed right up next to me, hiding her body.

“I can sense instinctively that you have the power to kill me.”

A white light erupted from Den’s palm.

I quickly covered Jema and rolled on the floor.

“Oh no, it missed.”

“What are you doing?!”

“Just a light greeting, that’s all.”

A round hole formed in the wall where we had just been standing.
