Reborn in JJK with Schrödinger’s Power

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The First Encounter

Yuu flopped onto his bed, staring at the cracks in the ceiling. Another day of fumbling with his powers, and he was getting nowhere fast.

"Alright, what now?" he muttered, frustration seeping into his voice. An idea flickered to life, and he smirked.

"I need real-world practice. Can't exactly get stronger lying around here," he whispered, his excitement growing. "Protagonists in anime always make it through their training arcs, right?" he joked, trying to psych himself up. Underneath the humor, though, his nerves churned. Testing himself against a real curse? He was in for a ride.

Sneaking out of the house, Yuu slipped into the cool night. The air felt sharp against his skin as he wandered through empty streets, hands stuffed deep into his pockets. His heart raced not from fear, but the sheer thrill of it all. He couldn't help but mutter, "Man, this would feel way cooler if I had some epic theme music right about now."

The flickering streetlights and eerie silence weren't doing much for his casual act. As he ventured further, the atmosphere shifted. The air grew heavier, almost oppressive, and a faint buzz tickled the edge of his senses, pulling him forward.

Before long, he found himself at an abandoned construction site. The skeletal structure loomed in the moonlight, rusted scaffolding groaning softly in the wind. The hum of cursed energy sharpened, prickling at the edge of his awareness.

"Of course it's a creepy construction site," Yuu muttered with a roll of his eyes. "Why not a library or something normal for once?" Still, he steeled himself and stepped inside. Each footstep echoed against the cracked concrete, sending a shiver down his spine.

A shadow shifted in the corner of his eye. Slowly, the curse revealed itself, stepping into the faint light like something from a nightmare. Its limbs were grotesquely elongated, their joints bending at unnatural angles. Its skin looked like it was made of ash and tar, with cracks oozing faint wisps of black mist. Its glowing eyes burned like embers in a dying fire, radiating malevolence with every twitch. Jagged, tooth-like protrusions jutted from its gaping mouth, and its twisted body gave off a low, guttural growl that made Yuu's stomach churn.

"Well, that's disgusting," Yuu muttered, taking an instinctive step back. His pulse quickened, but he planted his feet firmly. "Alright, buddy, let's see what you've got."

The fight began, chaotic and unpolished. Yuu's heart pounded as he tried to channel Schrödinger's Sovereignty, manipulating probabilities around him. At first, it was laughable he managed a few lucky dodges, but he couldn't quite tip the scales in his favor. The curse lashed out with claw like limbs, forcing Yuu into a desperate dance to avoid its attacks.

Every movement felt like a gamble, and more than once, he barely escaped being skewered. Frustration bubbled in his chest as he struggled to maintain control. But with each dodge, each counter, he started to see a pattern in the curse's erratic movements. His instincts sharpened, his focus steadied.

Then it happened. One of his punches connected, and the sheer force of it rippled through his body. The curse staggered back, and Yuu froze.

"Oh, crap," he muttered, wide-eyed. "Since when is a 17-year-old this strong?" Then it hit him. "Wait... Yuji's my brother. Makes sense I'd have the same freakish strength."

A grin broke across his face as adrenaline surged. Charging forward, Yuu let loose punch after punch, each blow heavier than the last. He experimented mid-fight, subtly altering the speed of his attacks. Though his mastery was shaky, he managed to land a few accelerated strikes, catching the curse off guard. Each hit disfigured the grotesque creature further, black mist pouring from its broken form as it unraveled.

Finally, Yuu spotted his chance. Grabbing a piece of rebar from the debris, he swung with everything he had. The rebar connected with a sickening crack, and the curse let out a screech that echoed through the empty site. Its body convulsed violently, the black mist spilling out in waves before it collapsed entirely, its energy dispersing into nothing.

Yuu stumbled back, panting hard. His grip on the rebar trembled as he muttered, "Okay... that was insane." He let the weapon fall with a clang, the sound oddly satisfying in the eerie silence.

Back in his room, Yuu collapsed onto his bed, the adrenaline finally wearing off. His mind replayed the fight on a loop, every mistake, every small victory etched vividly into his memory.

"One curse down," he murmured, staring at the ceiling. "Only, like, a million more to go."

Despite the exhaustion, determination burned in his chest. The fight had shown him just how far he had to go but it also proved he could stand his ground. Clenching his fists, he made a silent vow: train harder, master his powers, and be ready for whatever came next.
