Chapter 1: A Fatal Misstep and a New Beginning
Yuu sat in his tiny, cluttered bedroom, staring at the package on his desk. Finally, it had arrived. After weeks of saving and countless hours of scrolling through reviews, his brand-new VR headset was here. At 19, Yuu didn't have much going for him—college was a drag, his social life was nonexistent, and most of his nights were spent gaming or binge-watching random shows. But tonight? Tonight was different.
"Alright," Yuu muttered, ripping open the box with a grin. "Let's see what this bad boy can do." His heart raced with excitement as he set it up. It wasn't for gaming or virtual tours, though. Yuu had a specific plan—one that involved a bookmarked folder and a healthy dose of curiosity.
Once everything was connected, he slipped the headset on, adjusting the straps to fit snugly. "Okay, let's get this show on the road," he said, chuckling to himself as the screen loaded. Within seconds, he was immersed in a world of high-definition graphics, surround sound, and... well, his chosen form of "entertainment."
The experience was everything he'd hoped for. "Damn, this is next level," he whispered, reaching out as if he could actually touch the virtual environment. The realism was mind-blowing. He leaned forward, completely engrossed.
But then it happened.
His foot caught the corner of the coffee table. The slight nudge sent a half-empty soda can tumbling to the floor. Startled, Yuu flailed his arms, trying to regain his balance. The VR headset didn't help—it was impossible to see anything outside the simulated world. He took a step back, only to crash into his bookshelf. Books rained down, thudding against his shoulders and back.
"Crap, crap, crap!" Yuu yelped, stumbling forward. He reached out blindly for his couch, but his coordination, already questionable, failed him entirely. Instead of finding safety, he tripped over his own feet. His body twisted awkwardly, and before he knew it—
Bang!
His head collided with the corner of the coffee table. A sharp pain shot through his temple, and everything went black.
When Yuu's eyes fluttered open, he wasn't in his bedroom anymore. The mess of soda cans, books, and tangled cables was gone. Instead, he was floating in a vast, empty void. Everything around him was white and endless, like he'd stepped into some kind of dream.
In front of him stood a glowing figure, their expression caught somewhere between pity and barely contained amusement.
"Yuu Takahashi," the figure began, their voice calm but with a noticeable edge of humor. "You died watching porn."
Yuu froze, his face heating up as if he'd just been caught red-handed. "W-Wait, hold on! That's not... okay, maybe it is, but it's not what it looks like!" he stammered, waving his hands frantically.
The figure raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "You tripped, knocked over half your furniture, and managed to hit your head so hard you died instantly. All while wearing a VR headset. Tell me, how should it look?"
Yuu groaned, covering his face. "Out of all the ways to go... I couldn't have, I don't know, saved a puppy or something? It had to be this?"
The figure smirked. "Well, it's memorable. I'll give you that."
"Alright," Yuu muttered, finally looking around. "So, uh... what's next? Is this heaven, or... am I about to get dragged to hell for my browser history?"
The figure chuckled. "Neither, really. Think of this as an intermission—a little stopover before your next life."
"Next life?" Yuu blinked. "Wait, are you saying... reincarnation is real?"
"Indeed," the figure said with a nod. "And lucky you, you've been chosen for a special opportunity. A fresh start in a new world, with a gift to help you along the way."
"A new world?" Yuu echoed, his curiosity outweighing his skepticism. "Like, a fantasy world? Magic, swords, dragons, and all that?"
"Something like that," the figure replied cryptically. "But before we get into the details, you'll need to pick your starting advantage."
With a wave of their hand, a glowing wheel materialized in the air, its sections brightly colored and labeled with different abilities. "This," the figure said, gesturing toward the wheel, "is your lottery of gifts. Spin it, and whatever it lands on will be your unique power in your new life."
Yuu stared at the wheel, his heart racing. "Wait, wait, wait. What if I get something lame? Like, the ability to talk to plants or unlimited socks?"
The figure smirked. "You get what you get. Fate decides."
"Fate sucks," Yuu muttered, but he stepped forward, placing his hand on the wheel. With a deep breath, he gave it a hard spin. The wheel whirred loudly, the colors blending into a bright blur. Finally, it began to slow, the clicking sound growing louder as the arrow passed over each section.
Click. Click. Click...
The wheel stopped on a golden section labeled: Schrödinger's Sovereignty.
"Oh?" the figure said, their expression unreadable. "That's an interesting one."
Yuu leaned closer, reading the label. "Schrödinger's... Sovereignty? What does that even mean?"
"It means," the figure explained, "you'll have the ability to manipulate probabilities and collapse potential outcomes into the one you desire. In short, you control the realm of possibilities."
Yuu's jaw dropped. "That... sounds OP as hell."
"Only if you learn how to use it," the figure said, their tone turning serious. "Remember, power is nothing without control."
Yuu nodded slowly, still processing everything. "So... where am I going?"
The figure gave him a sly grin. "A world of sorcerers and curses, do try to stay alive this time, won't you?"
Before Yuu could ask anything else, the void around him began to shift, and a blinding light engulfed him.
"Good luck," the figure's voice echoed as everything faded to white.
