Reborn as the Cat-Obsessed Little Sister!

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Nine Lives and One Death

"Here, kitty, kitty! Come here, little guy."

The young boy crouched down by the alley, his fingers wiggling playfully as he coaxed the small, jet-black kitten closer. His grin was wide, and his brown eyes sparkled with excitement as the tiny creature took cautious steps toward him. The dim light of the late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the pavement, but the boy was too absorbed in his newfound furry friend to notice the fading day.

"You're so cute..." He whispered softly, his voice filled with warmth. The kitten—thin, with matted fur and a wary look in its gleaming green eyes—paused just out of reach. Its tiny nose twitched, taking in the scent of the boy who had been sitting there for almost an hour, trying to earn its trust.

The boy, barely ten years old, had always had a soft spot for animals, especially cats. Strays seemed to sense his gentleness and would often approach him without fear. He had named countless cats over the years, though most of them came and went as stray animals often did. But this one... this little black cat felt different.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you," he murmured, inching closer. His fingertips brushed against the kitten's fur, and the small creature finally caved, nuzzling against his hand. A delighted giggle escaped his lips as he gently stroked its back.

"See? I told you!" His smile was so wide it hurt his cheeks. "You're safe now."

The kitten let out a soft purr, leaning into the touch. For a moment, everything felt perfect. The world around him faded as he focused entirely on the warmth of the small life in his hands.

But that perfect moment shattered with a sudden chill running down his spine.

The sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the alley. At first, the boy ignored it, too entranced by the kitten—but the urgency in the approaching steps couldn't be dismissed. His heart thudded in his chest as the sound grew louder, faster.

He barely had time to turn his head.

A shadow loomed behind him.

Pain.

Sharp and cold, the sensation shot through his back before he even realized what was happening. His body stiffened, and the kitten let out a terrified meow, jumping away from him. The warmth of the cat's body was gone, replaced by a spreading, numbing cold.

He gasped, his vision blurring as he collapsed forward, his fingers desperately reaching for the little cat that had already darted into the safety of the shadows.

"W-Why..."

A heavy weight pressed down on him as he struggled to stay conscious. His small frame trembled, his thoughts muddled and slipping away like sand through his fingers.

The world was fading—his body, his thoughts, even his love for the small black kitten—all fading into a suffocating darkness.

Light.

Warmth.

Soft, muffled sounds surrounded him, and he felt an unfamiliar comfort that wrapped around his tiny form. His body... no, something was different. He couldn't move properly, and everything felt so... strange.

Was he... dreaming?

The boy—no, not a boy anymore—tried to make sense of the sensations, but nothing was clear. His thoughts were hazy, fragmented, and slipping through his grasp like the memories of a fading dream. The pain from before was gone, replaced by an overwhelming sense of safety and warmth.

"Eunah," a soft, gentle voice echoed around him.

It was calming. Familiar, somehow.

"And this one… Eunha."

The warmth around him shifted, and suddenly, everything felt... different. A new presence was close by, someone who radiated the same comforting warmth. His tiny body was lifted, and though he couldn't see clearly, he felt a connection to the source of that warmth—an instinctive bond that soothed him despite his confusion.

Eunha.

That was... his name?

Another presence was nearby—a twin, a mirror of warmth and life. The feeling was familiar, yet foreign, as if he was connected to this presence in a way he couldn't understand. But before he could dwell on it, exhaustion overcame him once more, pulling him into a deep sleep.

Time passed in a blur.

The days felt like moments, the passing of time meaningless as he grew accustomed to his new existence. His body was small, weak, and unfamiliar, but the warmth remained—a constant comfort that grounded him. And beside him, always, was the presence he had felt since his rebirth.

Eunah.

Her name resonated within him, a name that echoed in his heart. His sister. His twin.

And though he couldn't remember his past life, a lingering feeling tugged at his soul. A feeling that whispered of something lost—something important.

Something... about a cat.

"Come on, just one more chapter..."

Eunah's eyes were glued to her phone screen, the glow of the device illuminating her dimly lit bedroom. She was bundled up in a thick blanket, her long, dark hair falling messily over her shoulders as she rested her chin on her hand. It was way past midnight, but the addictive pull of the novel she was reading wouldn't let her sleep.

"Ugh, why is this villainess so annoying?" Eunah mumbled, her brows furrowing as she scrolled down. "Just apologize and fix things already!"

The novel she was engrossed in was "Whispers of a Broken Heart," a modern fantasy yuri romance set in an elite magical academy. The story revolved around a beautiful, brilliant, and compassionate protagonist—Eunah Lee —a character who won the hearts of several powerful heroines while trying to save the world. Eunah was a classic heroine: strong-willed, intelligent, and selfless.

"Why can't I be like her..." she sighed wistfully, her gaze softening as she read.

Eunah, in her past life, was nothing like the heroine she admired. She was an ordinary girl—average grades, average looks, average everything. She didn't have many friends and spent most of her free time devouring webnovels and fantasizing about living in a world where she could be someone extraordinary. Her life was monotonous, a cycle of school, home, and stories that offered her an escape from her mundane reality.

"If only I could be like her…" She murmured, her thumb scrolling through the next chapter.

As her eyes scanned the words, a strange sensation prickled at the back of her neck. The air felt... heavier. The hairs on her arms stood up, and an uneasy feeling settled in her stomach.

"Huh?" She blinked, suddenly aware of how eerily quiet her surroundings had become. Even the hum of her phone seemed distant.

BZZT!

Her phone vibrated violently, startling her. The screen flashed a notification—

Low Battery.

"Ah, seriously?" She groaned, annoyed that her binge-reading was being interrupted.

Her charger was across the room.

Grumbling, she tossed the blanket aside and dragged herself off the bed. Her bare feet padded against the cold wooden floor as she crossed the room, reaching for the charger.

BEEP!

A sudden, blinding light flooded her vision.

"W-What?"

Her body froze as an ear-splitting horn echoed in her ears. Time seemed to slow down as her mind processed what was happening. She was standing—not in her room anymore—but in the middle of a street.

When did I get here?!

A massive truck—its headlights glaring like twin suns—barreled toward her, too fast, too close.

Her heart stopped.

"No..." she whispered, her voice barely audible.

BANG!

Pain.

For a moment, her world shattered. Everything went black.

Light.

Warmth.

Soft voices echoed around her, muffled and distant. Eunah's mind was foggy, her thoughts sluggish as she tried to make sense of her surroundings.

"Congratulations, Madam. Two healthy girls."

The voice was gentle and warm, but Eunah couldn't understand what was happening. Her body felt... small. Weak. She tried to open her eyes, but everything was blurry—bright and unfamiliar.

"Eunah," another voice murmured softly.

Eunah?

The name struck something deep within her. Her mind, still clouded, couldn't piece it all together, but that name... it was hers.

Wait. No.

That was the name of the heroine from the novel she had been reading.

No way.

As her vision cleared slightly, she felt herself being lifted into warm arms. Her body was tiny—too tiny. The sensation was foreign yet familiar, as though her mind was trying to reconcile what was happening.

"Eunah," the voice said again, soft and full of love.

Eunah—her—was a baby.

Her thoughts spun wildly, but a strange sense of realization began to dawn.

Am I… reborn?

Her mind raced, trying to make sense of the impossible. But as her senses sharpened, the weight of the truth hit her.

She wasn't just reborn.

She was reborn as Eunah Lee.

The heroine of the novel she had been reading.

Oh my god...

A wave of excitement, shock, and disbelief crashed over her. She was Eunah. The beautiful, powerful, and beloved protagonist of one of her favorite stories.

"This… this can't be real."

But it was.

Time passed quickly in her new life. Her memories of her past life stayed intact, and as she grew, her mind—though trapped in a child's body—remained sharp.

She recognized the world around her immediately. The academy, the heroines, the villainess… all the pieces of the novel were falling into place.

But there was one thing that shocked her more than anything.

Her.

Her twin sister.

"Eunha," her mother's gentle voice echoed in her mind.

The younger twin. The one who wasn't in the novel.

"How...?" Eunah thought, her tiny eyes blinking sleepily as she turned her head toward the baby beside her. Eunha had the same soft, black hair and delicate features. But her eyes… her golden eyes shimmered like a cat's, glowing with a strange warmth that Eunah couldn't explain.

"You're not supposed to be here," she thought, her infant mind trying to process the impossible.

But even as confusion swirled within her, a warmth bloomed in her chest—an unexplainable bond that went beyond the constraints of her memories or knowledge of the story.

"Eunha..." she thought again, her tiny fingers instinctively reaching toward her twin.

"I'll protect you," she promised silently, her heart filled with determination.

"No matter what."

"Class dismissed!"

The cheerful voice of their teacher echoed across the brightly lit classroom, signaling the end of another day at kindergarten. Children's laughter and chatter filled the air as the students gathered their belongings, ready to go home.

"Eunha, wait for me!"

Eunah—now five years old—waved at her younger twin sister as she neatly placed her crayons back into her pencil case. Her long, black hair was tied into two neat braids, and her dark eyes sparkled with warmth. She had grown into a bright, charming girl, adored by her teachers and classmates alike.

"Mmmhmm..." Eunha mumbled distractedly, her small hands fumbling with her backpack as her golden eyes darted around the room. Her hair, equally dark but slightly wavier than Eunah's, cascaded down her back in untamed curls. Unlike her composed and diligent sister, Eunha was… chaotic.

"Don't tell me you lost your eraser again?" Eunah sighed, already knowing the answer.

"I didn't lose it!" Eunha pouted, puffing her cheeks as she rummaged through her bag. "I just… can't find it."

Eunah shook her head with a small smile. "Come on, I'll help you look for it."

After a few minutes of searching—and finding the eraser tucked in Eunha's lunchbox—the twins finally left the classroom, hand in hand.

The walk home was short, and the afternoon sun bathed the world in a golden glow. Birds chirped in the trees, and the breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers. Eunah, as usual, was talking about everything they had learned that day, but halfway through her enthusiastic recount, she realized something.

"Eunha?"

Silence.

Eunah's heart skipped a beat. She turned around, her eyes widening as she realized her sister was nowhere to be seen.

"Eunha?!" Her voice grew louder, a hint of panic lacing her tone.

"Not again..." Eunah's shoulders sagged as she glanced around frantically.

This wasn't the first time. Eunha had a habit of wandering off, her curiosity and obsession with cats often leading her astray.

"Where could she have gone?"

Then it clicked.

"The park."

Eunah's little legs carried her as quickly as they could down the familiar path to the neighborhood park. Her chest tightened with worry, but a part of her knew exactly where she would find her sister.

As she neared the park—a cozy little place with swings, slides, and a large patch of grass—the sound of giggles and soft meows greeted her.

"Eunha..."

There, in the middle of the park, surrounded by a small group of stray cats, was Eunha.

Her golden eyes were practically glowing with happiness as she giggled, letting a fluffy black cat bat at her tiny fingers. Another cat—an orange tabby—was curled up in her lap, purring contentedly as Eunha gently stroked its fur. Three more cats lounged lazily nearby, clearly as enchanted with her as she was with them.

"Why am I not surprised?" Eunah muttered, her lips twitching into a reluctant smile.

"Eunha!" she called, approaching her sister.

Eunha's head snapped up, her eyes wide with innocence.

"Eunah!" She grinned, holding up the black cat proudly. "Look! It's Midnight! Isn't she cute?"

"Eunha…" Eunah's tone was half exasperation, half fondness. "You can't keep running off like that."

"But the cats!" Eunha pouted, snuggling the black cat closer to her face.

"You know Mom and Dad will be worried," Eunah reasoned gently, crouching down beside her.

"I just wanted to say hi to them," Eunha mumbled, her voice softer now.

Eunah's gaze softened.

"I know," she murmured, brushing a stray curl away from Eunha's face. "But you have to tell me if you're going somewhere, okay?"

Eunha nodded, her pout fading.

"Promise?"

"Promise," Eunha whispered, her golden eyes looking up at her sister with trust.

"Good." Eunah stood up, offering her hand. "Now, let's go home before Mom and Dad send a search party."

"Okay…" Eunha reluctantly stood, gently placing the black cat back down. "Bye, Midnight. I'll come back tomorrow!"

The cats meowed softly in response, as if bidding her farewell.

By the time they reached home, the sun was dipping below the horizon, casting shades of orange and pink across the sky. Their house—a cozy, two-story building with a charming garden—stood warmly at the end of the street.

"We're home!" Eunah called out as they stepped inside, the scent of freshly cooked food filling the air.

"Eunah, Eunha, you're just in time!" Their mother—a kind woman with gentle eyes and a warm smile—greeted them from the kitchen.

"Where were you?" Their father—tall and broad-shouldered, his expression equal parts stern and loving—asked, his gaze landing on Eunha.

"Umm…" Eunha shuffled her feet, her eyes darting to the floor.

"She was in the park again," Eunah answered quickly, giving her sister a reassuring squeeze.

"Eunha..." Their father's voice was firm, but not unkind.

"Sorry, Daddy," Eunha mumbled, her head lowered.

"As long as you're safe," he sighed, his expression softening. "But next time, tell us before you wander off."

"I will," Eunha promised, her voice barely above a whisper.

Their mother wiped her hands on her apron as she approached them, a warm smile on her face.

"Come on, you two," she said gently. "Wash up and get ready for dinner."

As the twins turned to head upstairs, their father spoke again.

"Oh, and girls," he added, his expression suddenly serious.

"Hmm?" Eunah paused, turning to look at him.

"Tomorrow…" His gaze lingered on both of them.

"It's your Awakening Ceremony."

Eunah's eyes widened slightly, and beside her, Eunha blinked in confusion.

"Awakening…?" Eunha tilted her head, her golden eyes gleaming with curiosity.

"Yes," their mother added softly, a mixture of pride and anticipation in her voice.

"Tomorrow, you'll discover your powers."

Silence hung in the air for a moment, the weight of those words settling over the twins.

"Powers..." Eunah whispered, her mind already racing.

Eunha, however, had only one thought in her mind.

"I hope I can talk to cats!"

Eunah sighed.

"Of course you do..."
