And then there were the few more days I spent in the hospital.

I assessed my development with the steel sword from my inventory. Twenty units of strength was barely enough to hold it with confidence. This weapon was much heavier than it looked. An ordinary person wouldn't be able to swing it safely at all. This sword was definitely a hunter's weapon.

What's more interesting is that for the first daily quest, I got three character points. But the next day for the same quest, I was given five points. And, of course, first of all, I pumped my physical characteristics, as in the first battles they will be most important. At the same time, it seems that I finally got used to the fact that this is not a dream. Although I don't understand how I ended up here, it's not like I have anyone to ask. Perhaps if I started questioning out loud, the system creator might even answer me... but I really didn't want to provoke him. Judging from the manhwa, this is a very creepy and extremely violent creature that is best not to be trifled with. At least not until I was really strong.

However, I had confidence that that creature wouldn't be able to take away my system and rob me of my powers. Even if he was the creator of that system, but, the lord of darkness had already changed it. In part, that's why I started getting a little more rewards. The purpose of the system wasn't to give me fair play, but to help me develop faster. The creator of the system infused it into Jun Wu in order to prepare his body to be able to withstand the power of the Overlord without being destroyed by that power. And, gradually, this system is making me stronger, as much as I'm ready for it.

And for some reason, I was now progressing a bit faster than the canonical Jinwoo. Although, by local standards, his development was already completely absurd. The very fact that a hunter could increase his strength over time was already extraordinary to the hunter community. But in any case, it was fine with me.

Even though Jin Woo was a pathos bender, there were constantly moments in the manhwa where he had to overpower and was on the cusp of death.

Nevertheless, as much as I wanted to keep swinging by this daily task for another couple of months, but, I didn't want to waste time. I don't remember the exact dates, but I know that in the near future this world will be in for some serious upheaval. Monarchs, former allies of the Shadow Lord, preparing to go to war on this world. And the Lords, the strange beings that created the gates with dungeons and continue to empower people to prepare humanity for the coming war. The beginning of that war is drawing near...

Yeah, although this shadow power is so alluring, I don't like the dangerous world I find myself in at all!

And then I continued to train hard, as required by the system.

And then, actually, after completing another daily task, perhaps the creator decided that I was too focused on increasing my characteristics. For the past five, I absentmindedly ignored the second reward, choosing to focus on my physical attributes.

Strength - 20

Dexterity - 20

Stamina - 20

Perception - 8

Intelligence - 7.

And, in general, for my first level, it was not a bad foundation. For the five daily routines I completed, I received twenty-five characteristic points, plus the three points I received on the first day and the ten points I received as a gift for purchasing the system myself. Strength, Dexterity, and Endurance I raised equally to twenty units, and put another two points into Perception.

As with the previous trials, I received a reward box. I expected it to be some kind of potion again, but instead, as the box disintegrated with particles of light, a green key appeared in my palm.

Dungeon Key

Item Rank - E

A key that allows you to open an instant dungeon. Can be used at the third entrance of Hapjong Station.

Naturally.

A reward designed for me to keep getting stronger. The system was showing me the way to evolve. And the creator seemed to think I was more or less ready for battle.

- Am I really going to do this? - I asked myself.

And, indeed...

After getting the key, I didn't sit around and just kept doing the daily routine. Opening the map on the mobile app, I found the right station and, what luck - it was the nearest metro station to the hospital.

- Well... it was time. - I stretched my neck.

I'd already been in hospital for almost a whole week. I should be discharged any day now. I even found my house on the map. Checked the address on my medical records. Well, anyway, the doctors had no doubts about my health, so there was no problem with me having to go away for a while. So, leaving the hospital, I headed towards the metro station.

Yes, I don't have any armour, but I don't have the money to buy it.

But I have weapons.

And in addition to increasing my stats by completing daily quests, I got another interesting bonus.

Passive skills:

Fortitude level 1.

Increases damage resistance by 10%

Active skills:

Sprint grade 2.

Allows you to temporarily increase your speed by 30%, making sprints more rapid!

Alas, I did not have the absolute skill of unyielding willpower. However, the rewards I receive are quite generous, so I'm not complaining. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that physical exercise has clearly benefited me. My musculature has become much more embossed. Although, this effect is more from the increase in characteristics accompanied by the influence of the Overlord's power. Otherwise, I would have had to spend years in the gym for such a physique.

But now...

Man, even though it wasn't exactly my body, I really liked being in this shape.....

And the look itself, it's worth noting, was changing a bit. My facial features had become more... mature? And maybe it was just me, but I saw in my reflection the features of the old me, before the rebirth.

- Okay...

Meanwhile, I reached the station.

And as I approached the underground descent, I pulled out the dungeon key.

- Here we go...

I could feel it. A bundle of power, something elusive, but somehow, so familiar. Just clutching the key in my hand, taking a step forward....

From the depths of the underground came a mysterious energy that blew over me like a breeze. And the further I descended, the stronger the tension was. The key in my hands began to emit a golden light.....

One more step and I'm through the transparent veil.

The power of the dungeon overwhelmed me, and the sounds of the city were cut off.

Attention!

You have entered the instant dungeon!

The system was generous with the message.

I only looked back calmly as the transparent shroud became cloudier and more opaque, like a thick layer of ice.

Warning!

The exit has been blocked. To leave the instant dungeon, kill the dungeon boss or use the return crystal. If I didn't know that something like this was waiting for me, this message might have seriously worried me. Especially since I didn't have any return crystal with me.

Returning to the dungeon, however, it had the appearance of an underground station, but completely different. All the same rooms I'd seen on the way down, but as if they'd been abandoned long ago. Weed sprouts sprouted between the tile joints. Dirty walls, broken, shriveled lamps, and a realm of semi-darkness. Some of the lamps were still burning, though, and that was the only reason there was any light.

The steel blade I'd retrieved from my inventory gleamed coldly. A simple sword without any frills. The weight of it in my hand gave me a certain sense of confidence.

- Hmm...

There was no fear.

I could feel the power behind me and I walked calmly forward.

But only until I felt threatened. A chill ran down my spine, and I turned around, stepping backwards. And that's when I met the fierce gaze of the beast. A big scarlet wolf. He didn't growl, didn't bark, just stared at me with hatred. But if it had been sneaking toward me quietly earlier, now, when it saw my eyes, it was as if the beast had grown dramatically in size. Its muscles beneath its fur bulged in tension, visually enlarging the beast's figure, and then the wolf lunged at me sharply, emitting a half howl-half growl.

Honestly...

Even though I was prepared for it, the sound chilled me to the bone. My heart almost stopped, but.....

The grip of my hand on the sword didn't weaken, and I took a step forward and delivered a stabbing blow. The beast, in a leap, could no longer dodge. He had intended to claw at my throat exactly where I stood a moment ago. I simply broke the beast's manoeuvre and, as if in a daze, with a mechanical movement, plunged my blade into its face.

The point pierced the soft flesh in its open mouth, causing the beast to let out a pitiful sob. At that moment I noticed the metal structure on its lower jaw, but it didn't interfere much. The blade sliced through the flesh with a clang.

A sharp movement and I just cut the wolf in half.

- Haa...

The beast falls to the floor in two separate pieces.

And I was stronger than I thought....

Attention!

You have defeated Reikan Steel Fang.

Your level has been raised!

Great.

I hear the claws on the floor and feel the threat of the monsters. Turning around, I already know what I'm going to see. Two more scarlet beasts ready to attack.

- Raahhh... - The one that was closer to me lunged at me.

- Ahem...

With a clang, he closed his fangs on my sword. A steel fang indeed...

But with just a little more effort, I sliced through the wolf's head. It was only slightly more difficult than with the first wolf. But, I could already feel that I was getting used to it. The beasts' growls no longer inspired that piercing fear.

The second wolf, on the other hand, tucked its ears and backed away, but....

- You can't get away.

The sprint skill was activated for a moment, and I caught up with the beast at once, striking from below and simply knocking its head off with a blow to the neck. The wolf only managed to let out a shrill whimper before choking on the sound.

Your level has been raised!

Huh...

No new opponents in sight yet.

Well, it's the same dungeon that was in the original story. Game scripts...

As I lowered my sword, I breathed a sigh of relief. And then, while continuing to keep an eye on the surroundings, I opened the status window. Leveling up didn't give me any new points to distribute. But, instead, all of my stats were increased by two units. One point for each level, I guess. So, it turns out, I get five points for each level, just like a daily task now, except I can't distribute them myself, they're put automatically into all the stats. But, the ripple of the Overlord's power I could feel....

This system continues to refine my body and gradually, the Shadow Monarch's power has been transferred to me.

Although, it's still just crumbs for now, but it's a start....

One more thing...

I approached the bodies of the slain wolves, and after touching one, I received an item.

Raikan's Fang

The item's rank is trash.

It can be sold at the shop

Humming, I followed the recommendation and simply sold the item in the system shop, for which I received twenty gold coins to my account. I don't even know if that's a lot or not. Well, we'll figure it out later. In the meantime...

- Let's move on.

My lips twisted into a sinister grin.

Feeling the increase in strength, I saw more clearly in these terrible monsters - bags of experience. And, I didn't have to look for them for long. Already soon, having travelled only a little, I felt this strange impulse of threat. And then, making a dash, suddenly caught up with the beast, which was not ready for such a rapid attack. Behind him were several more wolves.....

Already having an idea of my strength, I made a swift strike, calculating its trajectory so as to catch several opponents. And so I managed to cut down two wolves at once.

The third one roared threateningly and even tried to pounce on me.....

A glint of steel, and having made a half-turn to cope with the inertia of the sword, I continue the movement of my weapon, striking again. The beast didn't even have time to react before it was cleaved by the blade.

Your level has been raised! The beasts, on the other hand, were in no hurry to flee.

On the contrary, more and more wolves were arriving from the other corridors.

More than a dozen...

And without stopping for a second, I continued the fight. I was already caught up in the excitement of the fight, and, carried away, at some point I simply lost sight of one beast. And my thigh burned with pain.

- B-bitch...

Writhing, I don't let myself get distracted by the wound, and bend my leg sharply. The knee strike to the wolf's jaw continues with a crushing blow from the hilt of my sword to its skull. I feel its bones break with a wet crunch, and the wolf's lifeless body falls to the floor.

Only for a moment do I glance down at my leg to see the bleeding cuts on my thigh.

But continue the fight before the remaining wolves are slain.

Your level has been raised!

Breathing heavily, I lowered my sword, realising that I could no longer feel the presence of the beasts. And my senses had just become sharper. I could actually sense monsters if they were around.

- Huh...

Sitting down tiredly near the wall, I took out a medical bandage from my inventory. Of course, while resting in the hospital, I had acquired some items that I could use. True, I hadn't asked anyone, and it was a little embarrassing to steal first aid items, but hopefully a couple of twists of bandages wouldn't do me any harm. Oh, and disinfectants.

Having treated the edges of the wounds, I also soaked the bandages themselves in antiseptic, and then wrapped them around the wound.

Though, I should note, though the wound looked threatening, I felt quite normal, and stood on my feet.

Nevertheless, I walked more carefully. But, before I did that, I examined all the bodies of the defeated monsters to collect the loot from them. A few wolf fangs. And to my surprise, when I touched one of the wolves, a bundle of clothes appeared in my hands. Tattered rags, but....

A traveller's cloak.

Rank - F

Stamina + 2.

Not much, but something.

The item was immediately equipped through the status window. And I even felt some effect, but it was like the cape itself just disappeared. Being equipped, it did not appear on me in any way.

- Next...

A new group of monsters.

Your level has been raised!

And another fight.

I could feel myself getting a little stronger with each level up. And since I was gaining levels rather quickly, the jump in strength was quite noticeable compared to when I entered this dungeon.

Your level has been raised!

Your level has been raised!

Your level is up!

I didn't pay attention to the messages anymore, they were flickering somewhere in the background, not really interfering with the fight.

Danger pulse.

Feeling threatened, I leaned sideways and struck without even seeing the target. And then, with lightning speed, I sliced in half a large monkey with long claws that jumped at me from the ceiling.

You have defeated the Razan Black Shadow!

Another type of monster.

I continued to kill the beasts one by one, a few at a time and, it was getting easier and easier each time. And, my senses defined these monsters differently already. Their threat pulses became weaker. The difference in our strength had changed, for I had become noticeably stronger.

You have earned the title!

Beast Killer

Effectiveness against animal-type monsters has been increased by 40%.

Taking a breath after another fight, I opened my status and checked my title. It still needed to be activated, which I did. And then I went to collect bags of experience again. And, with the title, killing wolves and monkeys became even easier. Monster hunting became a breeze!

Although...

My sword was already looking a bit worn.

The hunters' special weapon was very hard, that is, completely inflexible. It hadn't bent after so many blows, but it was starting to crack. There were several chips and nicks on the blade, as well as a rather unpleasant crack running almost through the entire blade. A couple more blows, I'm afraid, and the weapon might just break. But, it's not a problem, because....

Wolf Dagger

Attack +5.

Yes, the item is worse than a sword, but, at least some alternative, which I got from one of the killed wolves. Also, one of the trophies was a stone of return. But I didn't use it, deciding to deal with the boss. Jinwoo had succeeded, so I just have to try it too. Although, imagining who I would have to fight, I could feel my insides chill.

While fighting monsters, I had already passed the stairs leading to the lower level several times. And each time I passed by, I felt a powerful pulse of fear. The feeling of threat from there was much stronger than from the local wolves and monkeys. Although, that impulse wasn't as powerful now, but it was still strong.

Nevertheless...

I had already reached the sixteenth level.

Killing wolves has become quite simple, and I no longer felt the growth. And the monsters keep reviving again and again, it's just that now, I hardly progress at their expense.Song Jinwoo

Wolves have only wounded me a couple of times, and I've always treated the wounds. But, my first wound on my thigh was already almost healed. Regeneration with my stamina level is amazing.

And it wasn't just the stats that were growing...

Passive skills:

Fortitude level 2

Active skills:

Sprint level 4

Also, I got...

Hunter's Drawn Gloves

Rank - E

Dexterity + 1

Not much, of course, but, again, at least something.

And, it was already time to go down to the boss.
