Chapter 43: The Bell Test!
Next morning I woke up promptly at 6 AM, but then I remembered Kakashi's notorious tardiness. So, I drifted back to sleep. I finally awoke at 9 AM, refreshed and ready for the day. After a quick breakfast, I set off.
As I approached the Uchiha district gate, my eyes fell upon an old, forgotten shop. A plan began to form in my mind. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!" I whispered.
Without any visible signs of smoke, a shadow clone materialized beside me. "Go inside the house and search for that," I instructed.
Leaving the clone to its task, I continued towards the training grounds.
I arrived at the training grounds to find Naruto already there, pacing impatiently.
"Finally! You're late, Sasuke!" he exclaimed.
"I would have been late if Kakashi was here," I retorted. "Since he's not, I'm not late."
"AAARGH!! Where is that stupid sensei? I am so hungry!!" Naruto complained, his stomach growling.
With a sigh, I tossed a ration bar to both Naruto and Sakura. "Here, eat."
Naruto eagerly tore open the wrapper. "Thanks, Sasuke!"
Sakura hesitated, "But Sensei ordered us not to eat anything."
"And?" I countered. "He's not our sensei yet. He only becomes our sensei if we pass this test. So, following his orders now is pointless."
Before Sakura could respond, Kakashi appeared.
"I see," Kakashi observed. "You're already eating. Disobedient, aren't you?"
"You're late!" Naruto and Sakura exclaimed in unison.
"You are not our sensei yet. So you can't order us."
"I see. Good point," Kakashi pointed out. "Anyway, I have set the timer till noon."
Naruto and Sakura exchanged glances, eager to see what their new sensei had planned.
"Here are two bells," Kakashi announced, holding up two small, intricately carved bells. "Your task is to take one of these from me before noon. Those who fail to obtain a bell will not receive lunch. In fact, I'll tie you to one of those stumps and eat right in front of you."
Naruto and Sakura exchanged a horrified glance. 'So that's why he told us not to eat... DAMN!!' they thought simultaneously.
"You only need to get one bell," Kakashi clarified. "There are only two, so one of you will definitely be tied up."
"No." I stated firmly.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"
"Yesterday you said that only nine out of twenty-seven would pass," I pointed out. "But now you're saying eighteen will? You're lying."
Kakashi's eyes narrowed. 'He figured it out quickly. But, figuring it out and following it are different things. And besides, lord Hokage has assigned me to see the full extent of Sasuke's abilities. He will be watching this test himself.' he thought. "Or perhaps I lied yesterday, and I'm telling the truth now," Kakashi countered.
"Or maybe you lied about only one of us failing," I retorted, a smirk playing on my lips. "Either we all pass, or we all fail."
Kakashi observed Sasuke with an unreadable expression. "I made the rules here," he stated. "And if I say you have to take the bells, then you have to. Now come. You won't succeed unless you come at me intending to kill. You can even use your Shurikens."
"But Sensei, you'll be in danger!" Sakura exclaimed, her face pale.
"Oh, please," Naruto scoffed, "You're so slow you can't even dodge a blackboard eraser! We'll kill you!!!"
Kakashi sighed, "In the real world, those with no talent tend to bark the loudest. Well, ignore Mr. Dead Last and start when I say..."
Naruto's mind cracked, 'Dead Last... Dead Last. Dead Last! DEAD LAST!!'
Naruto eager to prove himself, pulled a kunai from his pouch and spun it expertly in his hand, aiming it at Kakashi.
Before Naruto could throw it, Kakashi appeared behind him, his hand swiftly capturing Naruto's wrist and twisting it behind his head. The kunai, now pointing dangerously close to Naruto's neck.
"Slow down, Naruto," Kakashi said calmly. "I haven't even said 'start' yet."
Sakura watched in astonishment, "No way... I couldn't even see how he did that..."
Kakashi chuckled, "Well it seems like you're prepared to come at me with intent to kill. So you've finally acknowledged me? Hehehe, seems like.. I'm beginning to like you guys. OK, let's get going. Ready... START!!!!"
As soon as Kakashi yelled "Start," Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke vanished, disappearing into the shadows.
Kakashi scanned the area, "The basics of being a ninja," he murmured, "is to learn how to hide."
Suddenly, Naruto appeared in front of him, shouting, "Come and fight me!!"
I can't! Watching Naruto act like this in the anime is different thing. But actually being around him and witness his act... I can't like this version of Naruto.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow, "Um... You're a bit off."
"The only thing off is your haircut!" Naruto retorted, charging towards Kakashi.
Kakashi sighed, "Let's try this again."
Skip the fight to the point where Naruto is hanging upside down on a tree with a rope.
Kakashi, observing the spectacle, commented, "A ninja must be able to read what's underneath the underneath."
"I know that stuff!" Naruto grumbled, irritated."
Umm... I'm telling you because you don't." Kakashi retorted.
That is not real Kakashi. It's a clone. And this is where he trapped the original Sasuke. But... I can use it to my advantage.
I summoned a barrage of shuriken and hurled them towards Kakashi. As soon as shurikens hit Kakashi, he transformed into a log, evading the attack.
Good, now Kakashi knows my location and will come to me. I create a clone and send it to help Naruto.
With Naruto,
"Underneath the Underneath?!!" Naruto exclaimed, cutting the rope with his kunai and tumbling to the ground. "What a moron!!!"
To his dismay, he found himself caught in the exact same trap, hanging upside down from another tree branch. "NO!!! Damn it!!! The exact same trap right underneath me!!" he groaned.
My clone arrived, swiftly cutting the rope that bound Naruto.
"I'm not going to thank you," Naruto grumbled, still annoyed. "It's not like I needed your help or anything."
The clone simply replied, "Hn. Naruto, Sakura is in danger. She needs your help. Go!!"
"Ya!! I'm coming to save you, Sakura-chan, dattebayo!" Naruto yelled, rushing off into the forest.
Meanwhile, with Sakura,
"Sakura, behind you," Kakashi warned.
Sakura whirled around, only to find herself ensnared in a powerful genjutsu.
Let's see. I still had a residual effect of my Mangekyo Sharingan on Sakura. So if I try a little to make sure Sakura only sees Naruto in whatever genjutsu Kakashi put her in.... DONE!
The genjutsu took effect. Within its confines, Sakura saw a horrific vision: Naruto, battered and bloody, limping and calling her name. His left arm was severed, his left foot twisted at an impossible angle, and kunais and shurikens were embedded deep within his body.
"NARUTO!!!!" Sakura cried out, tears streaming down her face. "AHHHH!!!!!!"
"I may have gone a bit too far," Kakashi admitted, rubbing the back of his head. "Shinobi Fighting Lesson #2: Genjutsu. Sakura easily fell for it..."
I, observed, "Genjutsu... A form of hallucinatory hypnotism.... She'd fall for that... But... I'm not like them. I'm built different."
Kakashi raised an eyebrow, "Say that after you get the bell, Sasuke-kun."
I smirked, my two-tomoe Sharingan swirling. "We'll see about that," I countered.
Kakashi, intrigued by the young Uchiha's confidence, stowed his book away. "Oh, getting serious from the start, are we? The strength of the Village's number one clan, the Uchiha Clan... and the famed Sharingan. In that case..."
Kakashi shifted his headband upwards, revealing his left eye, with the three-tomoe Sharingan.
"You sent a clone to help Naruto and then motivated him to help Sakura," Kakashi observed. "You understand the true objective of the test, yet you remain here alone. Why?"
I, my expression emotionless, replied, "I just want to test and see if you are capable enough to be my sensei."
"Oh, testing me, are you?" Kakashi mused, "Too much arrogance can be a dangerous thing."
"It's not arrogance," Sasuke countered, "It's my confidence."
DAMN!! I am shaking with excitement!! Calm down! Control yourself!
With Naruto and Sakura,
Naruto saw Sakura passed out. He rushed towards her, shaking her gently. As Sakura regained consciousness, the horrific images from the genjutsu flashed through her mind. She clung to Naruto, tears streaming down her face, relieved that he was unharmed.
After a few moments, they decided to find Sasuke. Upon arriving, they found Sasuke and Kakashi locked in a tense stare-down, their eyes glowing with the intensity of their Sharingan.
"Sakura-chan! Why are their eyes red, Dattebayo?!" Naruto exclaimed, pointing towards Kakashi and Sasuke.
Sakura, still shaken from the genjutsu, tried to calm him. "I'll explain later. Just think of it as a special eye technique that increases their vision."
(DONE! I upload after so many days because I got confused on how to write Sasuke vs Kakashi fight and what tings to add, because after this fight, I will be setting a parameter for Sasuke's strength. Have a great Day/Night!)
