Reborn as Karna with A.I

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Convincing the Villagers.

The golden rays of sun bathed the village in a warm light as next day started. Radheya completed his morning chores and with a determined look on his face, he walked in the village. He had spent the entire night sketching designs for the blueprint of Persian Waterwheel using sticks, coals on leaves as makeshift tools.

Though only 4 years of age in this life and no much drawing experience in drawing in past life, Jarvis and his divine body, Radheya made a very detailed drawing of the blueprint. The blueprint was so detailed that even a novice craftsman can use it to build a good waterwheel like seasoned craftsman.

Radheya stopped near a group of villagers who were gathered under the shade of a banyan tree discussing various things. Among the gathered people, almost everyone was an elder of the village. The youth of the village was doing various jobs, some as charioteer, some as storytellers especially in some rich households, so they used to be busy from morning to late night. So, only elder peoples were the only one in such neighborhood gathering. Sometimes, there are exceptions but not much.

"Elder Dharmapal, I have something to say." Radheya said.

"Oh Radheya. What do you want to say?" The eldest of the group, Dharmapal replied.

"Is it true that there will be a famine?" Radheya said.

"Famine? Who said that?" Dharmapal.

"Well I heard someone talk about it when I was near the Ganga River yesterday. I heard that gods have been angered and there will be drought for next few years and it will cause a famine." Radheya.

"Oh I heard about that too. I heard that the crops production is already low and some ponds and lake have started to dry up as well. The population has started to gossip that the gods have been angered." Elder 1

"Yeah, I heard about it too. My in-laws do vegetable business in the market of Hastinapur. They say that the import of vegetables are slowly decreasing. Though there are always farmers available who send the food for business in capital, the individual farmers can't produce as much as they used to." Elder 2

"My son had gone to craft some furniture tools like chairs, tables in the distant village. When he returned, he told me that even the drinking water is very hard to fetch in some places. If the continues then the famine isn't the only problem we will be facing but dehydration too. If it were to continue a lot of people will die and even the living will suffer very much." Elder 3.

"Hey don't talk such things in front of a kid." Dharmapal sternly said to the elders and then looked towards Radheya "Don't worry Radheya. The gods are not angry with us. Even if they are our benevolent King will please the gods and the famine that is not here will go away. You just go and play and don't worry about such things."

"But I know how to solve the problem." Radheya.

Dharmapal and other elders look at Radheya in amusement dancing in their face, "You do, my boy. Now tell me. What is the solution that can solve the problem of famine?"

"Well, it is not the solution for famine but it is the solution for drought." Radheya.

"Oh tell us what it is?" Elder 2

"Well, yesterday night I had a dream. In my dream, Ganga Maa came to me and told me to make a Waterwheel (Jal-Chakra) that can bring water to a higher level than the river and use it to make a canal ad pond. So, that we can use water directly coming from the river for various purpose like drinking, irrigation etc." Radheya.

Hearing that Ganga Maa came to his dreams made the villagers pause. Ganga Maa is a very celebrated goddess in Hastinapur. She had been a queen of Hastinapur at a time and she was the mother of most senior member of the current royal family. She is much reverenced goddess in Hastinapur.

The possibility of her intervention was enough to catch their attention. The elders looked at each other and back at Radheya who was trying to look as innocent as possible. After a moment the de facto leader of the elders said, "Speak Radheya. If Ganga Maa has shown you this wheel then it must be divine. Say, what kind of wheel is it?"

Hearing that Radheya pulled a leaf from his waistband. Thought he used a lot of leaves last night while making a drawing, this leaf in particular, was the most detailed one. Radheya gave the leaf towards Dharmapal who took it. "Well I created an image of the wheel that Ganga Maa showed me. If we create the wheel then we can definitely solve the water problem."

Dharmapal looked at the drawing for some time and gave it to the 3rd elder. Other elders too stretched their necks and looked at the drawing. "Elder Rampal, your family has been in the work of craftsmanship for many generations. Look over it and see if this Jal-Chakra can be used as little Radheya here claims?"

3rd Elder Rampal looked at the drawing for many moments. He turned and rotated the leaf many times and looked at the drawing with ever changing expressions of frown, curiosity, amazement, excitement etc., in his face. After many moments, 3rd Elder raised his head and looked towards other elders who were looking at him curiosity.

"The craftsmanship in the Waterwheel is not something I have ever seen or heard of. I don't see a single rope used in connecting the joints or anything. Though I have to say that if this tool is made then it can work in the same way little Radheya says but I don't have skills necessary enough to make this." 3rd Elder said looking at Dharmapal.

Dharmapal looked over at Radheya and said, "The Idea is good Radheya but no one in the village has skills necessary for this to work if even the very experienced Elder Rampal feels not skilled enough for this. Has Ganga Maa told you how to make this, Radheya?"

"Yes, I do know how to make this but I alone can only make a small model. To make the big one, I can only guide and the actual work will have to be done by the older people."

"If you can make the smaller model then we can use to demonstrate it to the villagers and get them to help. And if it is a success then we can also get help from the royal family. The palace may also rewards and hire us for construction of the Waterwheel in other places where its need would be more urgent. After all, only if we get the royal family to help us can this tool be called success and be spread elsewhere and help those in need.

Radheya, my boy, you should start making the little version of the waterwheel. If you need any tools then you can go to Elder Rampal and get them. And if he doesn't have them then go to Elder Harihar (2nd Elder). He is a tool smith, he regularly makes metal tools needed for farming and chariot. He must have some of the remaining metals. He can make you those tools, alright."

Radheya looked towards 2nd and 3rd elders who nodded and looked back at Elder Dharmapal and said, "Okay, Elder Dharmapal. I will start making the model after taking tools from the Elders."

"Alright but Radheya make sure this tool of yours work."

"Of course it will work Elder, after all Ganga Maa has given her blessing to this tool."

...….

Radheya was using chisel for smoothing the surface of the wood when suddenly a small girl came towards him. The girl came near him and said, "What are doing Radheya?"

"Nothing."

"You are using that tool to do something to that wood. So, tell me what are you doing, na."

"No"

"Please"

"No. And what are you doing here?"

"Oh, Radha Amma told me to search and see if you are going to the Ganga River to swim once again and if I am then to tell her. When I asked other people, they said you are here, so I came here."

Radheya frowned upon hearing it and said, "She is my mother, not yours. You can't call her Amma."

"Well, after we get married, she will be my Amma as well. And she said to call her Amma. So, I can call her Amma." Vrushali replied.

"There is a lot of time before we get married. And who knows, maybe we won't get married."

"No, we will definitely get married. My father and mother said so and also your mother and father said too. If you ever said we won't get married then I will tell Radha Amma and she will punish you by tying you to the tree. Do you understand?"

"Yeah yeah I understand."

'So, what are you making?"

"Well I am making a waterwheel."

"A wheel? Are you learning to make a chariot from your father?"

"No. Not a wheel for chariot. But a waterwheel."

"Waterwheel. What is that?"

"It's a new type of wheel that Ganga Maa showed me in my dreams. It can be used to take water from the low point in water to the high point in ground. If used correctly, we can utilize the water to make water mill to grind nuts, grains, peanuts etc. "

"Wow. We can do that? It's amazing."

"Yeah. It is. Now stop talking and pass me that small pot."

"This one (Yeah). So, Ganga Maa came to your dream. Don't lie to me. Goddess like Ganga Maa can only come to the dreams of those who are very special. I don't believe you."

"Well believe what you want. But don't disturb me and let me work in peace."

"Well I will stop talking and just watch you work."

"That's okay with me."

Vrushali watched as Radheya worked for a long time. As the day was about to set, Vrushali asked, "You have been working for so long. When will this thing be finished anyway?"

"It will be finished as soon as I attach this pot to the wheel. And it is done. Tomorrow, I will go to Elder Dharmapal and show him how it works. Then he will call for the village gathering and show it to the villagers and make a big real one. But everything else will be done tomorrow. For now let's go home otherwise it'll be dark."

"Alright."

"Hey, won't your mother be angry for you go back so late."

"Oh no. I forgot about it. Mother will punish me now."

"Hahaha…"

"Don't laugh."
