Rebirth of Bi Gan: A Male Student Traverses the “Investiture of God”

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Perplexity of Gu’s Clan and Zhang Hao’s Wit

Zhang Hao lay on the couch, tossing and turning, unable to find sleep. The words of Daji and the laughter of the palace maid echoed in his mind. He knew he could no longer passively accept the arrangements of fate. He must take the initiative, uncover the secrets of Daji, and find his own place in this world.

The next day, Zhang Hao arrived at his study early, determined to unravel the mysteries of this place. He searched through all the ancient books, trying to find spells and formations similar to those in the TV series he remembered, but all in vain.

He tried to practice breathing and internal energy control as described in the ancient texts, but he could never feel any flow of energy. He even attempted to draw talismans in the air, but the symbols just dissipated powerlessly into the air.

Feeling frustrated, Zhang Hao began to doubt whether he truly had the ability to master these ancient arts. A sense of unwillingness welled up in his heart. He decided not to give up, vowing to continue his efforts, no matter how slow the progress.

Lying on the couch again, Zhang Hao found sleep elusive as his mind replayed the strange symbols and spells he had read in the ancient texts during the day. Moonlight filtered through the window lattice, casting its glow on his furrowed brow, as if even the moon was prying into his secrets. Finally, he drifted off into a deep sleep and entered a dream.

In the dream, he stood in a valley shrouded in mist, surrounded by towering peaks with a clear stream flowing gently by. A figure with its back to him stood by the stream, wearing a Taoist robe and holding a duster, seemingly waiting for him.

"You have arrived," the voice was deep and distant, startling Zhang Hao. The voice seemed familiar, yet he couldn't quite place it.

"Who are you?" Zhang Hao asked, his voice echoing in the valley.

The mysterious figure turned around, its face indistinct, but its eyes betrayed a profound wisdom. "You do not need to know who I am. What you need to know is that your destiny is greater than you can imagine."

A strange sense of trust welled up in Zhang Hao's heart, and he asked, "What should I do?"

The mysterious figure smiled, waved its hand, and before Bi Gan's eyes appeared scenes of the flow of Yin and Yang, the formations of Qimen Dunjia, and more…

"These are the powers you will master," the mysterious figure's voice faded away, and as Zhang Hao tried to follow, he found himself waking up, his clothes soaked in sweat.

Zhang Hao sat up, filled with doubts. He didn't know what the dream meant, but he could feel that it was closely related to his fate.

At Zhang Hao's most frustrated moment, his childhood sweetheart from the Gu's clan came to his study. She was a gentle and intelligent girl with deep feelings for Zhang Hao. Her demeanor was gentle and elegant, her figure graceful, and every light turn exuded an unintentional elegance that was hard not to notice.

Zhang Hao looked at her, feeling a warmth in his heart. He knew that she was one of the closest people to him in this world. He decided to confide his confusion to her but kept silent about his transmigration.

"Gu's clan, do you believe in fate?" Zhang Hao asked, seeking some enlightenment from her.

She thought for a moment and smiled, "I believe that everyone's fate is in their own hands."

Zhang Hao's heart stirred, knowing she was right. He decided not to dwell on his identity but to face this world bravely.

In his conversation with Gu's clan, Zhang Hao suddenly realized that, according to his memory of the "Investiture of the Gods," wasn't she supposed to be Bi Gan's original wife? They were both only 19 years old and not yet married. This realization complicated his feelings for her, seeing her not only as a friend but also with a bond that transcended past and present lives.

Zhang Hao and Gu's clan strolled together in the imperial garden, where spring sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled light on the winding path. Her long hair danced in the wind, her grace natural, every step exuding a charm that was hard not to admire.

"Brother Bi Gan, you've been so secretive lately, is there a secret you're hiding?" Gu's clan playfully asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Zhang Hao was taken aback, nearly forgetting that he was a time traveler and couldn't discuss their childhood with her. He quickly denied it: "No, I've just been studying some ancient texts, hoping to give the king some advice."

She pretended to be angry: "Humph, Brother Bi Gan is not being honest. You must be hiding something from me." She pouted, looking stubborn.

Zhang Hao, quick-witted, decided to use humor to defuse the awkwardness: "Gu's clan, look at that flower, doesn't it resemble you, beautiful and strong?" He pointed to a blooming peony, its petals vibrant in the sunlight.

Gu's clan laughed at Zhang Hao's words, knowing that he always used his intelligence to defuse awkward situations. "Brother Bi Gan, you always know how to speak," she said, her feigned anger already gone.

Zhang Hao breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he had dodged a bullet. They continued to stroll in the garden, enjoying the rare leisure time. Zhang Hao silently resolved to protect Gu's clan, no matter what the future held, from any harm.

Suddenly, Zhang Hao noticed Gu's clan's gaze fixed on a peculiar flower, its shape quite unique, like a butterfly about to take flight.

"Brother Bi Gan, look at that flower, it seems to be dancing!" Gu's clan exclaimed excitedly.

Zhang Hao approached and couldn't help but smile: "Indeed, it seems to be performing a spring dance." He suddenly had an idea to surprise Gu's clan.

He mysteriously said to her: "Close your eyes, and I will perform a magic trick for you."

Gu's clan closed her eyes curiously, and Zhang Hao quickly took out a copper coin from his pocket and, using a modern technique, swiftly hid it under the flower.

"Okay, open your eyes," Zhang Hao said.

Gu's clan opened her eyes and was surprised to find a copper coin under the flower. "How did you do that?" she asked in amazement.

Zhang Hao smiled mysteriously: "It's a secret. But this copper coin is a small gift for you, hoping it brings you good luck."

Gu's clan accepted the copper coin, her face lighting up with joy: "Brother Bi Gan, you always surprise me."

They continued to stroll through the garden, Zhang Hao's mood lightened by Gu's clan's smile. He knew that even as a time traveler, in this world, he could have his own warmth and happiness.
