Chapter 374: Qiqi Disappeared
The space inside the sedan wasn’t large, with Pei Yuan and three others sitting in the back. Even though they found the seats cramped, each of them was thrilled beyond measure.
They had finally gotten out of that hellish place!
“Head to Cen Chu’s place,”
Su Jin also leaned back into her seat tiredly, heaving a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that she was physically tired, but rather a sense of exhaustion following the sudden release of tension.
The driver, Lin Xiuyuan, didn’t seem too happy.
Su Jin felt it strange; if this had been before, Lin Xiuyuan would have already been chattering non-stop, pleased with himself.
“What’s wrong?” Su Jin asked.
“Qiqi… she’s gone,”
Lin Xiuyuan said, slapping the steering wheel.
“Did she go after that blue dot?”
Lin Xiuyuan was surprised by Su Jin’s reaction—how did she know?
In fact, after hearing what those researchers had said, Su Jin had some premonitions.
The Base Leader turned into a zombie, running out of the base with a little girl in tow; the only housekeeper in the Base Leader’s home was found dead, and the extracted Z-agent was found on the scene…
Associating this with the anomalies Mao Qiqi had found on the maps over the past few days, it was easy for her to make the connection, and she hadn’t expected her guess to be correct.
But now they were in trouble.
They couldn’t leave the base until dawn.
“Dr. Pei, what is the Z-agent?” Su Jin turned her head and asked.
Although Dr. Pei was somewhat shocked that the young girl knew this name, he still answered, “It’s a pharmaceutical product extracted from the crystal cores in the zombies’ brains by the research institute.”
“And what would happen if someone were injected with or ate this pharmaceutical?” Su Jin continued.
“To my knowledge, the experimental cases that have been injected with this pharmaceutical have shown symptoms such as aphasia, unbearable headaches, and in some cases, partial zombification,”
Pei Yuan’s reply reminded Su Jin of the dual-element monkey they had encountered when they first entered City E.
“Would they attack people?”
Su Jin asked the crucial question.
“That’s not certain, they might during an outburst, but not in the same way zombies do,” Pei Yuan replied.
Su Jin nodded, Lian Jiyue must not have turned into a zombie; if he had, he would have run towards where there were more people, not out of the base. As for why he took Mao Qiqi with him, that she didn’t understand.
She hoped Qiqi wouldn’t get hurt.
Otherwise…
She would truly be to blame.
“Lin Xiuyuan, drive faster,”
Su Jin became more and more anxious.
“We’re almost there,”
Lin Xiuyuan was also anxious; he wanted to quickly check the Space again to see if Qiqi had come in, or at least to know if she was okay.
After hearing the sound of a car outside, Cen Chu, who was waiting inside, quickly opened the door.
Although it was dark in the alley, Cen Chu could still recognize that it was Su Jin and the same ice-element ability user from last time, along with four people he didn’t know. However, he guessed that these were probably the people Su Jin had asked them to help get out.
“Come in quickly,”
After everyone entered, Cen Chu looked left and right along the alley and saw that nobody had followed them.
Nie Qing was also at Cen Chu’s place; he had searched the base for Mao Qiqi but hadn’t found her and had to come back to continue waiting for Su Jin and the others.
“Girl…”
Nie Qing wanted to say something.
“I know, let’s first get Dr. Pei and the others settled,” Su Jin said.
Nie Qing nodded and led several people to the rooftop, where he pointed to a corner and said, “This spot is most suitable. Even if someone comes looking, they’re unlikely to find us.”
Su Jin nodded and began to explain to Dr. Pei and the others.
Nie Qing had already set up a Stealth Formation there; as long as they stayed within that area, even if someone came up, they wouldn’t be able to see them.
“Like invisibility?”
Fang Zhengyang couldn’t help but ask in amazement, that seemed too unscientific.
“Not quite the same, you can see each other,”
Su Jin didn’t elaborate much, and Pei Yuan, aware that these young people must have run into trouble, simply went over and sat down without further ado.
Cen Chu and the others watched in astonishment as Pei Yuan disappeared into the corner. Was the formation really that magical?!
The autumn night was chilly, though it was starting to get slightly light, the temperature was still at its lowest of the day.
Cen Chu intended to get something to keep warm, but Su Jin had already taken the initiative to pull out two cotton quilts from her Space and placed them beside them.
“It’s rather cold, please make do here for now. We’ll take you out once it’s safe outside after daybreak,” Su Jin said.
“Understood, young lady. You guys… be careful,”
Ren Yingjie said. Too many things had happened today, and he hadn’t even had the chance to thank them.
Su Jin nodded, and she, Lin Xiuyuan, and Nie Qing quickly went downstairs.
The car outside had already been stored in Su Jin’s Space, and the three of them nearly ran back to the house they were renting.
Tonight’s operation could be considered a great success, as no one had discovered them coming from S City, but none of them seemed the slightest bit happy, their expressions somber as they entered the Wood Spirit Space.
Except for Lin Tianzhen and Mao Zhihang, all the family members were inside the Space.
However, the Wood Spirit Space was unnaturally quiet at the moment, everyone inside the Lu Residence looking anxious. Upon seeing Su Jin and the others enter, Lu Hao finally felt a little relief.
It seemed the mission was resolved, but still…
“Everyone relax for now, I think Qiqi should be safe for the moment,”
Su Jin said, unable to locate Mao Qiqi herself, but knowing she probably had more information than the family members who had been in the Space the whole time.
“Qiqi must have been taken by Lian Jiyue,”
Su Jin began to explain to everyone, including the possibility that Lian Jiyue had been poisoned and her conjecture that Qiqi was most likely taken by him.
“Lian Jiyue poisoned?”
Lu Hao’s expression also became grave. He hadn’t expected his warning to come too late.
“Could he attack Qiqi?”
Li Xiuying still asked anxiously.
“Dr. Pei said he wasn’t sure, but if Qiqi is in danger, she should be able to hide in the Space. Let’s wait a bit longer,”
Su Jin only hoped for daybreak to come quickly, so they could go out and search for Mao Qiqi.
…
At this very moment, in a warehouse of an abandoned factory, Mao Qiqi was carefully placed on a workbench along an assembly line by the man who had carried her, running madly all the way.
Then the man passed out.
“…”
Mao Qiqi was somewhat speechless.
What now? He seemed to have carried her for a great distance, and she had no idea where this was.
Qiqi jumped down from the workbench and crouched beside the man, looking at him.
Could he be sick?
She remembered how Lin Tianzhen felt her forehead when she was ill and placed her own hand on the man’s forehead.
She didn’t know what temperature a fever should be; she only knew his forehead felt much hotter than her own.
Mao Qiqi felt a mix of confusion and concern. She didn’t know what to do, but her family must be worried about her, so she dragged the man onto a wooden pallet and laid him on top of it. After pondering for a moment, she entered the Space.
