Chapter 97
Chapter
Roxanna struggled to understand the story she had just heard.
However, not everything in the world can be resolved by effort. The more she listened to the explanations, the more tangled her common sense felt, and she eventually gave up trying to comprehend.
“Yes, that’s right. I guess you could call him ‘Dad.'”
“I knew you would understand, Shinhou.”
Roxanna awkwardly smiled and nodded her head.
“Haha….”
Before any more pointless chatter could arise, she quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, Rionne, it’s clear you’re his daughter. Eight hundred years younger… does such a thing affect bloodlines?”
“Ah, Mom! Do you think I loved Enok because he’s young? I realized I loved him while loving him!”
“Umm… well, alright.”
In any case, let’s consider it that way.
“Anyway, I’m worried. That demigod we met yesterday was definitely a hybrid born between the Middle Realm and the Demon Realm, right?”
“Yeah. What’s the problem?”
“There is one. A big one. They’re not even orcs.”
Rionne’s eyes widened. Could it be that her mother was a speciesist?
“I heard recently that the population of monsters has increased significantly; it might be related.”
“Oh, is that what it was about?”
“What do you mean by ‘that’?”
“Never mind. It’s just something I’ve heard.”
Roxanna nodded appropriately, her face filled with concern as she continued speaking.
“Moreover, the Demon Realm… it probably has mixed blood of demons. Even if it seems independent, they’re often interdependent. If things go wrong, the Middle Realm could end up connecting to the Demon Realm.”
“Connect?”
Rionne’s expression turned serious. Enok, who had been listening quietly, questioned in confusion.
“What’s the problem with that? Isn’t it just like the continent getting a bit bigger?”
“No, Enok. It’s not that simple… Each realm definitely has a different atmosphere.”
In the case of the Demon Realm, the beings belonging to it tend to be very aggressive. Perhaps because of that, there were many powerful entities compared to those belonging to the Middle Realm.
“If there’s a slip-up, a war might break out.”
“Rionne is right. Especially demons are dangerous.”
Enok nodded at the women’s words.
“Then we need to restore Father to normal as soon as possible.”
“That’s right. Our son-in-law is young, but he’s smart, huh?”
“Mom! Don’t try to seduce our Enok!”
“Hey, hey….”
Roxanna waved her hands in fluster. But Rionne had her reasons too.
“Mom, you resemble me too much. If Enok falls for you, I honestly don’t know what I would do.”
Is this what it means to be an elf? Tsukiyo, whose chest was pounding in exasperation, sighed.
“Haah… Enough. Let’s just get started, shall we? If I keep listening to this, I might drop dead from high blood pressure.”
That settled it.
*
The merging of the Demon Realm and the Middle Realm. It was something that might or might not happen, but it couldn’t just be ignored.
Especially merging was hard to predict. The union could happen as soon as tomorrow, so they needed to hurry.
“Really…? I’m feeling so anxious…”
Rionne glanced at Enok, nervously biting her nails. Given the urgency, they split into two groups.
The demigod Rionne and her spirit, Undine, were one team. Roxanna and Tsukiyo, along with Enok and his spirit, Eri, formed another.
[Don’t worry too much. With three Grandmasters, it’s almost impossible for anything dangerous to happen.]
Rionne shook her head at Eri’s words.
“It’s not that… while I’m gone, what if Enok and our mom….”
“Stop talking nonsense and let’s go! Shinhou has a husband, so stop with the weird talk!”
“But… our Enok is just so excellent…”
“Ugh!”
A frustrated Tsukiyo urged Enok.
“Dad! Just hurry up already! If I keep listening, I feel like I’ll explode!”
“Okay.”
Enok nodded and approached Rionne, giving her a light kiss.
“Rionne, stop with the strange worries and let’s get this over with quickly.”
“…Do you think your worry is strange too?”
“Yeah. Very. You don’t trust me?”
Rionne shook her head as if the wind would sweep it away.
“No!”
“Then let’s finish quickly and take a break. We should greet Father, too.”
“Okay!”
Feeling better, Rionne quickly passed through the space. Enok exchanged glances with the remaining members and nodded.
“Then let’s go too.”
Kiiing-!
Enok’s Ki Eye pierced through the space. Soon, having found the line, he waved his hand and tore through the space.
“…Rionne, how come she seems younger even after hundreds of years?”
With Roxanna’s grumbling, the party crossed over.
*
“Is this it?”
After crossing through the space, Enok looked around.
Green pastures with sheep frolicking. It was a peaceful sight.
As an ominous presence approached urgently, the group paused momentarily as a figure suddenly flew in from afar.
“You all… Tsukiyo?”
“Hmm. It’s been a while, Gunta.”
The man, called Gunta, was a tiger beastman. As Enok focused on his ears and tail, Gunta frowned.
“What is the meaning of this? Why are three Grandmasters invading without notice?”
“Don’t worry. They are my guests. Back off with the unnecessary words.”
“Elves are fine. But humans can’t…”
In an instant, the temperature of the surrounding space dropped sharply. Sinister energy began to press down on Gunta’s body.
“…What are you trying to do?”
“Don’t insult my dad.”
“What? Penta of the Black Cat Tribe…”
“I’m not talking about that dad.”
Tsukiyo wrapped her cat tail around Enok’s wrist. Gunta’s eyes widened in shock.
“W-wait a moment…. Did I misunderstand?”
“You’re right in understanding.”
“Wow. Crap.”
Scratching his head, Gunta lumbered over and extended his hand to Enok.
“I… apologize. I didn’t know.”
“Um… uh…”
“I was wondering how long that little one would wander, but I’m relieved to see she has found a place of tranquillity.”
“Gunta, I’m older than you!”
“Shut up.”
Surprised by the unexpected reaction, Enok shook his head while holding Gunta’s hand.
“Actually… I understand. Humans would do that.”
“Oh, right, I may have spoken a little…”
“I’m not being sarcastic; I really dislike humans.”
“Hmm….”
Scratching his head, Gunta gave a slightly awkward smile.
“Anyway, we can’t leave guests standing here. Tsukiyo, will you stay?”
“I came here for business, so I’ll leave quickly.”
“Oh, if you ever need help, feel free to call me at any time. I’ll assist as much as I can.”
“Thanks.”
“Sure, then.”
Gunta bowed respectfully and waved his tail as he walked away. Roxanna, ears twitching, giggled softly.
“Every time I see the culture of the beastmen, it seems a bit strange.”
“From our perspective, elven culture is even weirder.”
“Different species, so it can’t be helped.”
With her hair tidied lightly, Roxanna quickly scanned the surroundings.
“I think it’s over there. Son-in-law, shall we go?”
“Yes.”
*
A little distance from where the beastmen lived. The grassland was the same, but Enok felt a sense of unease.
“This feels….”
“Oh my, can you feel it? Is it because Rionne taught him the spirit law?”
Roxanna laughed softly, finding Enok adorable as she ruffled his hair.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes….”
Something felt weird. Rionne’s likeness carried an atmosphere that also felt familiar yet different.
Is this what family feels like?
Watching Roxanna intently, Tsukiyo poked him playfully.
“Dad, I’m hoping… but I don’t want to believe…”
“Believe what?”
“That… targeting my mother might be a bit much… don’t you think?”
“Choco, stop saying weird things.”
It wasn’t like that. It was just intriguing.
Since he married Rionne, calling her mother could also make her family, but thinking that made him feel quite strange.
“W-well… if it’s not, then that’s fine.”
Feeling embarrassed from misunderstanding, Tsukiyo closed her mouth and quickly chased after Roxanna.
[I wouldn’t mind having two moms!]
“Eri, you’re not reading some weird books, are you?”
[Umm… probably not?]
“Then it’s fine.”
Enok followed behind them.
Roxanna stopped in front of a solitary tree amidst the sparse trees on the pasture.
Standing quietly and gazing into the air, Roxanna placed a hand over her heart and softly spoke.
“Beloved.”
────────────!!
The ground shook slightly. The very brief tremors quieted in an instant, leaving no trace.
Before long, they could see a man standing proudly atop the pasture.
‘It’s surprising to see again.’
To think this was merely a clone made from shattered emotions.
Enok gazed at the Sword God with wary eyes.
The Sword God, who had simply been looking up at the sky, lowered his head. Upon meeting the gaze of Roxanna, who had been staring at him intently, the Sword God calmly opened his mouth.
“…Roxanna.”
That was all. The quietly dispersed clone landed softly as tiny fragments upon Roxanna’s hand.
“…What the?”
Tsukiyo gaped in astonishment.
“Is that it?”
“Yes. Kyle wouldn’t aim his sword at me.”
Unless it was out of feelings like anger or killing intent, that was only natural.
“…Last time, he lunged at your daughter as if he would kill her.”
“Fufu, a daughter and a partner can’t be the same.”
There was definitely a sense of victory on his face.
