chapter 38
38 – Date with Karin
A few days after arriving in Salzburg.
Finally, the day came when we decided to go match her armor with Karin.
Usually, at times like this, sloppy people who are dating for the first time get so excited that they can’t even sleep, but I woke up after a good night’s sleep without such stupid shoveling.
That doesn’t mean I didn’t look cool.
A few days ago, I bought a black suit from a pretty expensive clothing store around here, put it on, and got my hair done.
‘They say that if a man is clean, he will go halfway.’
As I was waiting at the fountain in front of the plaza where we were supposed to meet with some grounded confidence, Karin’s figure walked towards me.
Golden hair shining like gold, fair skin, a flowing light green blouse and brown skirt.
It’s a common outfit that girls living in the city often wear, but the person wearing it is so beautiful… Naturally, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Karin.
“…… It’s so pretty, damn it. Aren’t you a noble lady?”
“In that case, you would be wearing a silk dress or dress, you asshole. You look like you’re waiting for someone, so why don’t you flirt?”
“Are you going to face me? If she’s that beautiful, there must be a man like a filthy rich aristocrat or a parasitic brother.”
I’m not dating her Karin yet, but she is the man closest to her and I enjoy listening to them compliments.
That’s also true, Karin will be my woman in the future, and those guys over there will be in a position to watch the scene while licking their fingers.
“Senior, are you here already?”
When Karin heard me, she smiled.
“Martin, are you here already? It’s still a long way from the appointment time.”
“I came out quickly because I was looking forward to it because I was thinking about going out with my seniors. Anyway, you dressed up nicely today. Get along well.”
When Karin heard that, she opened and closed her hand and turned her head away.
“I heard from Captain Dalton. I heard that at the banquet that Count Salzheim held, he even seduced the ladies by saying such words.”
Unlike usual, I felt a different charm from Karin, who showed a bit of dissatisfaction.
“Are you jealous? I heard that she gets along well with the young ladies over there, not the senior.”
Karin pouted her mouth as she listened to me.
“No, I’m just saying this because I’m worried that you, Martin, are flirting with such noble ladies.”
“Then, seniors are worried that I will be hooked by such women…”
“Martin, I believe you’re not the kind of person to be swung around by women. But still… “
Saying that, Karin stopped her words when she blushed.
If you tease me more here, nothing good will happen.
“I have never flirted with you, senior. On the contrary, I thought that young ladies who had no interest would approach me and die of burden. If she wrongly refused, the mercenary army would be a nuisance, but if she gave it even a virtue, the Count of Salzheim would have said something like this.”
Karin pricked up her ears at my explanation.
“What do you mean?”
“You seem to have a good relationship with ’00 Youngae. The two of you are very matched in nature, how is it? I’ll support their love, so becoming my knight.’ A guy who gave up his knighthood to get ahead as a mercenary, marrying a woman he doesn’t love and being a knight of the count, I’d rather fall behind.”
Saying that, the corner of Karin’s mouth went up slightly.
“Really? Then let’s go to the workshop. It’s a place that makes everything from cheap to really good weapons and armor, so I’m sure Martin will like you too.”
“Is that so? Then, I will go with high expectations.”
**
When I arrived at the workshop Karin guided me to, I opened her eyes wide.
“Are you surprised? Salzburg is not a very big city, but there are many dwarves with strong craftsmanship, so they sell a lot of good things. Even if you don’t have the fancy armor or weapons used by high-ranking and rich people like Captain Dalton.”
“I see. Just looking at this sword hanging in the corner of the shop…”
I took a peek at the iron sword displayed in front of the shop over there.
The blade was sharp, and the center of gravity of the sword was evenly distributed, so it was heavy but comfortable to hold.
“Usually, places like this carry the cheapest items in the store. The cheapest one is like this.”
When Karin heard that, she shrugged her shoulders and she laughed.
“How is it? Do you think you know why I asked you to come here?”
“That’s really bad.”
“Right? Martin: If you’re going to get your armor matched, you’d better get it here rather than going somewhere else.”
I’m already looking forward to seeing how cheap the quality of other high-end products will be…
“Let’s see. Since this bow uses the Minotaur’s horn, it must be powerful… That bow over there used an Elder Ent branch…”
I like her armor, but I observed Karin seriously choosing her bow.
Even when I approach them, they don’t notice at all and are eagerly comparing the two.
If that’s the case, you won’t know who’s carrying it.
As I stared at that scene, Karin said a bit stingingly.
“What are you looking at so closely?”
“No, I got a bit interested in seeing you choose a bow.”
“Really? Then which one do you think would suit me better? Left or right?”
Both of them were enchanted to be quite expensive.
Wearing the horn of the Minotaur on the left will take a lot of energy to fire one shot as it has magic that strengthens the power, and it will be quite burdensome for Karin, a woman.
On the other hand, the ent tree branch bow on the right is a bit weak, but it should be easy to draw.
Also, if you put her mana into it, you can put wind in her arrows. Since it is written on her, she must be a perfect fit for her who uses archery style to aim for the vital points quickly.
“Isn’t a bow with an Ent twig more suitable for you?”
Karin raised one corner of her mouth at those words.
“Why do you think so? Since I’m an elf, wouldn’t that be the reason that the ent branch would suit me well?”
“I’ve seen seniors shoot archery a few times, but you prefer to shoot quickly and accurately rather than shooting with full force. A bow with a minotaur horn won’t fit there. “
When she heard that, she smiled.
“You were paying attention to me while doing this and that.”
“Aren’t I and Karin-senpai friends?”
“Stop smirking.”
Karin said that and lowered her head to look away from her.
Then she raised her bow and smiled, she said.
“Martin, don’t you buy armor? Martin, since you’ve risen to the rank of platoon leader, why don’t you match her here?”
When she first came in, she didn’t think she had to buy here.
“I have to go elsewhere, but I can’t find anything better than here. Okay, then she’ll live here for one. Let’s see, some useful armor…”
As I was looking around, the dwarf in the studio strode toward me.
“Are you already a platoon commander at such a young age? Is he a mercenary or a member of the army under the nobles?”
I didn’t ask to find something, but I was momentarily taken aback by the sudden background check…
“I am the platoon leader of a small mercenary unit called the Whitebeard Mercenary Unit.”
“The mercenary army that Count Salzheim, the lord of the county near here, played an active part in shoveling. A platoon leader of a mercenary corps at such a young age must be quite a friend.”
At that, I shook my head.
“Excessive humility is poison. After, good If it’s for you, the cheap ones here won’t work.”
Then the host opened the door behind him, and he came out with a suit of armor.
“It is made with about 15% of mithril and is the highest quality worn by even advanced knights. The nobleman who just said he was going to buy this died in the last war, so I was thinking about who I should sell it to, but I guess I could sell it to my older brother.”
“Has anyone ever said to buy this?”
“I heard that you are a mid-level knight of the Baltland family.”
Is it a coincidence? I killed that bastard
“What is the price?”
“Forty gold coins, you won’t get anything like this at this price. If you say buy it, I will remodel it to fit your body.”
“Isn’t that too cheap? I thought I could do at least 60.”
The host smiled after hearing my words.
“If you don’t like it, don’t.”
“That’s not true. How much is it with the bow Karin-senpai is holding over there?”
“Can I be your lover?”
At that, Karin blushed.
And after about 30 seconds passed, he denied it.
“What nonsense, I’m just a close junior.”
“Is that so? You two look so close, that’s why.”
“Owner, how much is it other than that?”
“Fifty gold coins, the magic on that bow is pretty good, so it’s a bit expensive. But if you buy two, I’ll give you two discounts.”
When Karin heard that the bow she was carrying was 12 gold coins, she tried to stop me, but I paid her full price in platinum coins.
The host looked at me and stuck out his tongue.
“You look like a man, it’s okay if the armor measurements are finished in a week?”
“I will be here for more than two months anyway. And when you come to find the armor, please give me one magic wand and eight broadswords used by middle-level wizards.”
“Okay.”
And I left the workshop that way.
Karin asked me in a slightly strained voice.
“Is that okay? Even if you give me a bow worth 12 gold coins.”
12 Gold coins is not light money.
Because that’s the equivalent of a year’s salary for Fior.
But if it’s just to get Karin’s favor, that’s pretty cheap.
I answered that in a slightly playful way.
“Then keep walking around with me and watch over me from behind. You’ve saved me so many times, so I’ll believe you.”
Karin didn’t answer that.
She just nodded her head with her head down and her face dyed like a persimmon.
And a few weeks later, the recruitment of new recruits for our white beard mercenaries was finally over.
The number of new arrivals is 130, excluding senior mercenaries and above, who are called veterans.
“Cute Peepies, you have to roll them until they die.”
