Chapter 24: Underground storage room part 2
"This place seems to be part of Skinnomore's dwelling," Yui said with a gloomy face, looking at everyone's faces. She could see how scared and terrified they were, but there was nothing she could do about it as anyone who came across a creature as terrifying as this would be scared too.
"The quicker all of you accept this reality, the better it will be. The government, police, and army won't come here to rescue us." Yui isn't trying to make them lose all hope but they need to accept the reality that believing something that is impossible to happen is as good as being dead here.
Olivia heard Yui's every single word clearly, from that she can see that Yui speaks the truth without a lie in her voice but maybe all they need right now is nothing more than a little lie. All the darkness around her made her feel like it was going to devour her any given moment, she still remembers clearly how one of them got taken by the skinnmore while trying to get here.
Skinnomore jumped into the midst of them without their knowledge and grabbed the girl's skull with one hand and jumped over the container like it was nothing at all, the scream of girl asking for help that slowly turns into the begging into blood curdling scream of death. All the guns Yui, Noah and james are carrying around is useless as it couldn't even stop the skinnmore late alone hunt them but she still wants to believe in her as she got them here even some of them didn't make it with them.
Olivia looked around the room but the only thing she saw was darkness and nothing else. Olivia tries to see Yui in this room but her efforts are useless as she couldn't overcome her human body limits. Only Yui's voice reminded her she wasn't alone. Yet, she didn't know how long she could rely on Yui before losing hope in her as a savior.
"Yui, tell us what we should do next. What's the plan?" Olivia asked, her voice trembling. Sitting here in one place would only lead to their deaths—either from fear, starvation, or something worse.
Yui looked straight into Olivia's eyes and saw the hopelessness there. Olivia saw Yui as their only light in this nightmare, putting all her trust and faith in her. But trusting someone completely in a place like this was a death sentence unless that person was strong enough to navigate the nightmare freely. Yui knew she wasn't that person.
The burden felt heavy on Yui's shoulders. As they moved forward, more people would die, and she couldn't protect them all when she wasn't even sure of her own survival. Yui had no leads on the return crystal's location, and James had neither seen nor heard of it.
"I… I'm not sure what our next move should be, but we will find our way back home," Yui said, lowering her gaze. She knew it was a lie; finding their way home seemed impossible. No one noticed the despair on her face except Noah, who silently stood beside her without saying a word.
"Don't trust this little bitch. She's going to sacrifice all of us to save her own skin. We're all going to die here sooner or later, and she will too," Hillary spat in a rage-filled tone. Yui could see the hatred in Hillary's eyes but didn't rebuke her. There was some truth to Hillary's words. For her own survival, Yui might have to make harsh decisions, even if it meant risking others' lives.
"See? She didn't deny it! She knows she'll lead us all to our deaths!" Hillary's face twisted as she began to spiral into insanity, overwhelmed by the horrific reality.
"Bitch, you better shut the fuck up, or I'll beat the shit out of you. I don't care if you're a girl or not. Keep quiet if you have nothing better to say" James snapped, his patience and sanity were losing with each passing moment and here one girl lost her sanity first and creating trouble but deep down he knows soon all of them are going to become insane, If they didn't return to their home.
"James, leave her alone. We need to focus on our next move. Do you know of any place that might be secure enough to hide something like a return crystal?" Yui's voice was calm but firm. She felt pity for Hillary but couldn't let her emotions cloud her judgment. They had already suffered in the real world, and now they were trapped in this nightmare realm with no way out.
Anyone with a sane mind wouldn't survive long here. The few humans they had encountered couldn't be trusted, and those with supernatural powers were even more terrifying.
James thought about the possibility of a secure location where the crystal might be hidden. However, he had no idea what it looked like or where it could be. He had never encountered anything like it during his years of working on port.
"What does this return crystal look like? Its shape, size, and color?" James asked with curiosity and desperation evident in his voice. Every passing second brought them closer to death.
"I… I'm not sure," Yui admitted. "Each crystal comes in different shapes, sizes, and colors. The one I saw a long time ago was an orange orb." She was truthful this time. Hiding details about the return crystal wouldn't help their situation, which was already grim.
"This won't get us anywhere. There's so little information to go on. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. And we're completely blind," James said softly, frustration lacing his words.
"Just give me a moment to think. Please, all of you, stay quiet until I come up with a lead," James said, trying to focus. Deep down, he knew the odds of finding the return crystal were slim to none.
The eerie darkness surrounding them was oppressive. Humans, by nature, fear the unknown, and in this realm, that fear becomes overwhelming. Without sunlight, their existence felt meaningless.
They had been hiding in an underground storage room for an hour. Though no one spoke a word, the silence was broken by the distant sounds of gunfire, explosions, and the howls of monstrous creatures. Some roars were more terrifying than the tentacled Skinnomore they had seen earlier. The weight of their situation grew heavier with each passing moment. If caught by these monsters, their fate would be worse than death.
"I think I know a place where the return crystal might be hidden or where we could find information about it. But getting inside would be incredibly difficult—maybe even impossible," James finally said, hesitating as if unsure.
Yui noted his hesitation and the gravity of his words. One wrong move could mean death in the most horrifying way.
"James, have you thought this through? Are you hiding anything from us?"
"James, don't forget our lives are in your hands," Yui said, her voice firm. She had no knowledge of the sea port every location but she had no choice but to rely on him.
'I hope James is right about this,' Yui thought. 'Otherwise, most of us will end up dying for nothing. I could go alone to search for the crystal, but it would take too much time, and it might be gone before I find it. I don't have any other options.'
"Okay, we should move now. Staying in one place for an hour isn't safe here," Yui said with determination in her eyes.
Yui stood up and looked at everyone. Most of them were hopeless, with no desire to fight for their lives. But she wasn't ready to give up yet. She wouldn't let these people die here.
"Yui, what if you and the two boys go outside to look for the crystal? The rest of us don't have the strength to run through the darkness again," Kristina said in a weak, scared voice, fearing their reaction.
"Yui, if you find the crystal, you can come back for us. Even if you can't, we'll understand. It's hard to move out there with those monsters roaming around. You can leave us here."
"I don't think I'd survive outside like you. I can't control my fear. I've always been weak. If I go outside, my fear will doom us all," Kristina said, tears streaming down her face.
"If you stay here, you won't be safe either. We need to keep moving to avoid being swarmed by the nightmare realm creatures," Yui said, her tone serious.
"The darkness isn't our ally. Staying in one place for too long is as good as digging your own grave. If you want to survive and see the sun again, you have to move and search for the return crystal," Yui continued, her voice growing louder with conviction putting pressure on the others to follow her lead.
"But can you guarantee our safety, if we go outside?" Kristina asked, lowering her head in shame. It was too much to ask from someone who had already saved their lives once.
