Chapter 12: Chapter 11: The City of Solhaven and the Astro Hunter Exam
Arrival in Solhaven
The towering gates of Solhaven opened to reveal a bustling city, far larger and more vibrant than Eldermere. The streets were packed with people, a sea of faces from all walks of life. Merchants shouted to advertise their wares, street performers entertained crowds, and Astro Hunters in sleek, battle-worn gear walked with an air of authority.
"This place is massive," Callen muttered, his eyes wide as he took in the towering buildings and sprawling markets.
"It's more than just big," Yu added, scanning the crowd. "Look at the people. There are so many strong fighters here."
The dense population and the palpable energy of the city made their journey through the streets feel like a challenge in itself. As they navigated through the throngs, they separated from Blaze, their newfound companion.
"I'll catch you two later," Blaze said, waving them off. "Got my own business to take care of."
The duo asked around for directions to the Astro Station, the hub for aspiring Astro Hunters. After several wrong turns and some helpful locals, they arrived at a grand building with a gleaming sign reading Astro Station – Solhaven Branch.
Inside, the station was a blend of modern technology and ancient architecture. The walls were adorned with holographic displays showing information about Astro Hunters, their ranks, and their accomplishments.
The receptionist, a bespectacled young man with neatly combed hair and a slightly nervous demeanor, greeted them.
"Welcome to the Solhaven Astro Station," he said, adjusting his glasses. "I'm Miles, a staff member here. Are you here for the Astro Hunter exam?"
"Yes," Yu replied.
Miles checked their names on his tablet. "You're registered. The exam starts in an hour. Feel free to wait in the lounge area until then."
The waiting room was filled with people of all ages and backgrounds. Some were visibly nervous, fidgeting in their seats, while others exuded confidence, chatting with their peers.
Yu and Callen took seats near the corner, observing the crowd.
"Look at them," Callen whispered. "So many people want to become Astro Hunters."
Yu smirked. "It's not about how many start; it's about how many finish."
Before long, Blaze entered the room, his confident stride drawing attention. Spotting Yu and Callen, he walked over and plopped down beside them.
"Miss me?" he asked with a grin.
"You're hard to miss," Callen replied, rolling his eyes.
The trio's bond had strengthened since their shared journey through the maze, and their banter lightened the tense atmosphere.
An hour later, the aspiring hunters were led to a massive open ground behind the station. The area was filled with training equipment, targets, and various weapons. At the center stood a man who radiated power—a towering figure with a commanding presence.
"Welcome," the man began, his voice carrying effortlessly over the crowd. "I am Darius Solforge, the Station Master of Solhaven."
The crowd fell silent, hanging on his every word.
"Hundreds of years ago, our world was thrown into chaos. Creatures we now call Astrodies emerged from portals, wreaking havoc on our lands. Humanity was on the brink of extinction, but then, a miracle occurred."
He raised his hand, and a faint glow of energy enveloped it.
"Prana," he said, his voice filled with reverence. "A gift from the Sun God, or so the legends say. This power allowed us to awaken our inner strength, manifesting as weapons tailored to our souls—blades, axes, hammers, and more. With Prana, we found hope. But make no mistake—this is not a war between humans and demons. It is a battle for survival against cosmic invaders."
Darius paused, letting his words sink in.
"The role of an Astro Hunter is not just to protect others but to protect yourself first. Only by surviving can you shield those who cannot fight. The job is dangerous, but it is also one of the most honorable paths one can take."
His piercing gaze swept over the crowd.
"This exam will test not only your strength but also your knowledge, determination, and spirit. It consists of five parts:
The Written Test – To assess your understanding of Astrodies and their weaknesses.
The Physical Test – To gauge your endurance and combat skills.
Prana Measurement – To determine your potential and mastery over Prana.
The Practical Test – To prove your ability to defeat low-level Astrodies in a controlled environment.
The Personality Test – Not an interview, but a chance to share your story, your dreams, and your reason for becoming an Astro Hunter."
Darius's voice softened but carried even greater weight.
"This exam is not just about passing. It is about discovering who you are and what you are capable of. The world does not care about your lineage or wealth. It cares about your potential and your will to fight."
He stepped back, his presence still commanding.
"For the next five days, you will be tested to your limits. Show me, show yourselves, what you are truly made of."
The crowd erupted into murmurs, a mix of excitement and apprehension. Yu and Callen exchanged glances, their determination mirrored in each other's eyes.
"Five days," Yu said, clenching his fist. "We've got this."
Callen nodded. "We didn't come this far to fail."
Blaze smirked, his confidence unwavering. "Let's see who comes out on top."
As the crowd dispersed to prepare for the first test, the fire of ambition burned brightly in the hearts of all present. The stage was set, and the journey to becoming Astro Hunters had truly begun.
