POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: The Beedrill Swarm

"This kind of opportunity can't be missed!" Ash exclaimed, retrieving a Poké Ball from his belt. He released Pidgey in a flash of white light. The small bird Pokémon took to the air, circling above him. Ash pointed toward a Weedle crawling leisurely up a nearby tree. "It's up to you, Pidgey!"

Pidgey glanced at Ash, understanding the command instantly, and turned toward Weedle. The Bug Pokémon, oblivious to the looming danger, continued its slow climb up the trunk.

"Pidgey, use Wing Attack!" Ash called out. Pidgey let out a sharp cry, the air shimmering as Flying-type energy gathered on its wings. It swooped down with precision, heading straight for Weedle.

Weedle, sensing the disturbance, turned its head slightly and noticed Pidgey's attack just in time. Startled, it released its grip on the tree and fell toward the ground, narrowly avoiding the attack. Pidgey's wings grazed the tree bark, leaving a mark but failing to land a blow on its target.

Ash frowned. "Pidgey underestimated it. Being careless in battle can turn the tide." His tone was firm but calm. He recalled a similar lesson from watching the Elite Four match between Koga and Agatha, where even the smallest miscalculation led to game-changing outcomes.

Pidgey halted mid-air, turning to glare at Weedle, who was now scrambling on the ground. Frustration flickered in Pidgey's expression.

"Calm down, Pidgey," Ash urged. "Losing your composure won't help. Focus on reading your opponent's movements. Strength means nothing without strategy."

Behind him, Misty looked on, startled by Ash's composed demeanor. "He's different from other Rookie Trainers," she thought. "There's an air of experience about him."

Pidgey steadied itself, its gaze sharpening. Weedle trembled under the intense focus, increasing its pace in a futile attempt to escape.

"Let's try again. Use Wing Attack!" Ash commanded.

Pidgey cried out once more, its wings glowing as it dived toward Weedle with renewed determination. This time, Weedle's attempts to dodge were futile. Anticipating its movements, Pidgey adjusted its trajectory mid-flight, catching Weedle head-on.

A resounding thud echoed as Weedle was sent flying several meters, landing on the forest floor unconscious.

"Well done, Pidgey!" Ash called out. Pidgey, soaring triumphantly, quickly subdued its pride upon noticing Ash's steady gaze. Defeating a Weedle, after all, wasn't an achievement worth boasting about.

"Pika-Pika!" Pikachu cheered, waving its tiny paw at Pidgey.

Ash reached into his bag, retrieving an empty Poké Ball. "Let's go!" He threw it at the fainted Weedle. The ball struck Weedle, absorbing it in a flash of light. It wobbled slightly before emitting a soft ding, signaling a successful capture.

Ash picked up the Poké Ball with a smile. "That's my third Pokémon!" His eyes gleamed with determination. It was a small step, but every step brought him closer to becoming the strongest Trainer.

"Ash..." Misty's voice, trembling with unease, pulled him from his thoughts.

"What is it?" he asked, noticing her pale expression.

"Did you hear that sound?" she whispered, her eyes darting nervously around the forest.

Ash paused, straining his ears. A faint buzzing reached him, growing louder with each passing second. His expression darkened.

"That sound... it's the vibration of insect wings," he muttered, his voice grave. "And judging by the density, there are at least twenty of them."

Misty's eyes widened in alarm. "What does that mean?"

Ash's grip tightened on Pikachu, who had also tensed, its ears twitching. "It's the Beedrill swarm. We have to move—now!"

He quickly recalled Pidgey to its Poké Ball, grabbed Misty's hand, and broke into a run. Pikachu clung to his shoulder, its fur bristling.

"Beedrill? Are they really that dangerous?" Misty asked, struggling to keep up.

Ash didn't look back. "Beedrill aren't just dangerous—they're relentless. Their speed and power make them lethal in large numbers. Compared to the Spearow swarm we faced outside Pallet Town, this is a whole different level. If they catch us, we're done for."

As they ran, the buzzing grew louder, an ominous hum that seemed to surround them. Misty glanced over her shoulder and froze. Emerging from the shadows of the forest, dozens of Beedrill flew in perfect formation, their sharp stingers glinting ominously in the sunlight.

"Th-There are so many!" Misty stammered.

Ash gritted his teeth, scanning their surroundings for an escape route. The thick trees offered little in the way of cover. "We need to find shelter. Beedrill are territorial—they won't chase us if we leave their nesting grounds."

Misty nodded, though fear gripped her. Together, they veered off the main path, darting between trees and over roots. The swarm pursued them relentlessly, the buzzing now deafening.

"Just a little further!" Ash urged. His mind raced. "If we can't lose them soon, we'll have to fight. But Pikachu can't take on all of them alone, and the others aren't strong enough yet."

Suddenly, Misty tripped on an exposed root, falling to the ground with a cry. "Ash!"

He skidded to a halt, turning back to help her up. The Beedrill were closing in fast, their stingers poised to strike.

"Get up! We don't have much time!" Ash shouted.

Misty scrambled to her feet, but it was too late. The first Beedrill lunged, its stinger aimed directly at them.

"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Ash commanded without hesitation.

Electric energy surged from Pikachu's body, spreading in a wide arc. The lead Beedrill was struck, convulsing before dropping to the ground. The others hesitated briefly, their formation breaking.

"Run!" Ash yelled. They bolted again, Pikachu unleashing another Thunderbolt to keep the swarm at bay.

Finally, they burst into a clearing, where a shallow cave offered temporary refuge. They dove inside, panting heavily. The Beedrill hovered outside, their buzzing growing fainter as they eventually dispersed.

Misty collapsed against the cave wall, her chest heaving. "That was too close."

Ash nodded, his expression serious. "This forest is no joke. We'll need to stay alert if we want to make it through."

Pikachu climbed onto Ash's lap, its cheeks sparking faintly as if still on edge.

"Thanks, buddy," Ash said, stroking Pikachu's fur. He turned to Misty. "Are you okay?"

She nodded shakily. "I'll be fine. But next time, warn me if we're about to get swarmed by killer bugs!"

Ash chuckled, the tension easing slightly. "Noted. Let's rest here for a while before we move on."

As the forest quieted around them, Ash glanced at the Poké Ball containing Weedle. His team was growing, but so were the challenges ahead. He was determined to face them head-on.

"One step at a time," he muttered, clenching his fist.

Misty watched him silently, a newfound respect glimmering in her eyes.

For Ash, this was more than just a journey to catch Pokémon. It was a path to becoming the greatest Trainer the world had ever seen.
