POKEMON : THE WAY OF PERCEPTION

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: The Samurai Boy's Challenge

The forest was unusually quiet, the silence broken only by the sharp movements of the samurai boy in front of Ash and Misty. The boy, clad in traditional samurai attire, exuded a strange combination of intensity and youthful energy. Ash narrowed his eyes at the sight, recalling who this peculiar character was.

The samurai boy was infamous, not for his skill, but for his eccentricities. Ash remembered him from the anime—a naive trainer who once engaged in a bizarre battle between two Metapods using Harden. It was a contest that epitomized a unique kind of foolishness, something Ash had come to associate with his younger self.

The sword at the boy's waist drew Misty's attention. She instinctively reached for her Poké Ball, prepared to protect Ash if necessary. Her voice quivered slightly with unease.

"Ash, be careful!"

"Relax," Ash said calmly, gesturing for her to lower her guard. He stepped forward and pinched the blade of the samurai boy's sword between his fingers. "It's fake. This isn't a real samurai sword—it's plastic."

Misty's eyes widened in disbelief. "What?"

"See for yourself." Ash flicked the edge of the blade lightly, causing it to wobble humorously.

The samurai boy chuckled sheepishly and returned the sword to its scabbard. "Of course, it's fake! I'm not going to risk hurting someone while training in the forest. It's just for show."

Misty clenched her fists, her cheeks flushing with frustration. "What kind of idiot carries a fake sword to intimidate people?"

Ignoring her outburst, Ash turned back to the boy. "What do you want with trainers from Pallet Town?"

The boy's face grew serious. "Yesterday, I battled a trainer passing through this forest. He defeated me easily. He said he was from Pallet Town!"

Ash frowned slightly, piecing together the situation. "Gary. That must've been Gary."

The boy's eyes lit up at the name. "You're Ash, aren't you? The one Gary mentioned! He told me you defeated him once. Fight me! If I can beat you, it'll prove I'm stronger than him!"

Ash smirked, his competitive spirit igniting. "A battle? Sure."

The boy's excitement was palpable as he stepped back, clearing a makeshift battlefield between them. Misty, still simmering with annoyance, was appointed as the referee.

"I'll set the rules," she declared. "It's a two-on-two battle. You can switch Pokémon during the match. The first trainer to lose both Pokémon is the loser."

Ash and the boy nodded in agreement. Misty flipped a coin to determine who would send out their Pokémon first. "Heads for the samurai boy, tails for Ash." The coin landed on heads.

"I'll go first!" The boy wasted no time, throwing his Poké Ball into the air. "Kaiross, let's go!"

A flash of light revealed a formidable-looking Pokémon resembling a stag beetle. Its massive pincers gleamed menacingly, while its brown body radiated strength.

Kaiross

Type: Bug

Category: Stag Beetle Pokémon

Ability: Hyper Cutter or Mold Breaker

Hidden Ability: Moxie

Strength: Ordinary Level

Ash studied the opponent carefully. "A decent Pokémon, but nothing we can't handle." He selected his own Poké Ball and released his Pokémon.

"Pidgey, it's your turn!"

With a burst of light, Pidgey soared into the air, its wings spread wide as it cried sharply. The small bird flapped energetically, ready for its first battle.

The samurai boy's frustration was evident. "You're using a Flying-type against my Bug-type? That's so unfair!"

Ash shrugged. "It's called strategy."

"Battle start!" Misty's voice rang out as both trainers focused on the field.

"Pidgey, use Gust!" Ash commanded.

Pidgey flapped its wings rapidly, generating a powerful whirlwind that barreled toward Kaiross. The stag beetle dug its feet into the ground but struggled to resist the force of the attack.

"Kaiross, hold on and use Vice Grip!" The boy shouted.

Kaiross lunged forward, pincers snapping dangerously. However, Pidgey's speed allowed it to dodge effortlessly, staying out of the Bug-type Pokémon's range.

"Keep your distance, Pidgey! Use Quick Attack!"

Pidgey darted through the air like a bullet, slamming into Kaiross with precision. The samurai boy gritted his teeth as his Pokémon staggered backward, clearly hurt.

"Kaiross, use Harden to boost your defense!"

Ash smirked. "That's not going to help. Pidgey, finish this with Gust!"

Pidgey unleashed another powerful whirlwind, and this time, Kaiross couldn't withstand the assault. The stag beetle toppled over, fainting on the spot.

"Kaiross is unable to battle. The winner is Pidgey!" Misty announced.

The samurai boy recalled his fainted Pokémon, his expression a mix of frustration and determination. "You're strong, but I'm not done yet! Go, Weedle!"

A small, yellow worm-like Pokémon emerged from the boy's second Poké Ball, its stinger glinting ominously.

Ash considered his options. "Pidgey, come back. Pikachu, your turn!"

Pikachu leapt onto the battlefield, cheeks sparking with electricity. It eyed Weedle confidently, ready for action.

"Weedle, use Poison Sting!" The samurai boy commanded.

Weedle shot a barrage of poisonous needles toward Pikachu, but the agile Electric-type dodged effortlessly.

"Pikachu, counter with Thunder Shock!"

Electricity crackled through the air as Pikachu unleashed a powerful jolt, striking Weedle directly. The Bug-type Pokémon squealed in pain, its small body trembling from the attack.

"Weedle, hang in there! Use String Shot to slow it down!"

Weedle fired a sticky thread at Pikachu, attempting to restrict its movement. However, Ash quickly responded.

"Pikachu, use Quick Attack to break free!"

Pikachu darted forward, its speed tearing through the sticky threads and landing a decisive blow on Weedle. The small Pokémon collapsed, fainting instantly.

"Weedle is unable to battle. Pikachu wins! Ash is the victor!" Misty declared, raising her arm in Ash's favor.

The samurai boy sighed, recalling Weedle and walking over to Ash. Despite his defeat, he offered a respectful bow. "You're as strong as Gary said. Thank you for the battle."

Ash smiled, extending a hand. "You're not bad yourself. Keep training, and you'll get stronger."

Misty, still annoyed at the earlier scare, crossed her arms and huffed. "Next time, don't go pulling fake swords on people!"

The samurai boy laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head. "I'll keep that in mind."

As the trio parted ways, Ash felt a renewed sense of purpose. Each battle, no matter how small, was a step toward becoming a Pokémon Master.
