Pokémon: The truth behind the power

Chapter 1: Prologue: The Beginning of Everything

The Viridian Forest unfolded before James like a refuge of calm, an Eden where sunlight filtered through the green leaves, creating a mosaic of shadows dancing on the moss-covered ground. Despite his life in a privileged environment, where luxuries were as common as the air he breathed, James, with his short vibrant blue hair and green eyes shining with curiosity, felt more connected here than at any social event. He walked alongside his loyal Arcanine, his fiery and faithful companion, enjoying the melodious song of the Pidgey and the fresh scent of the damp earth. As he approached the entrance of Viridian City, the forest's murmur seemed to whisper ancient secrets, reminding him that true wealth did not always come from his lineage.

"Do you remember how hard it has been to get here?" James remarked, looking at Arcanine with a conspiratorial smile. "We just need one gym badge to attend the Indigo Conference this year." Arcanine barked in response, as if sharing the young man's excitement. "Not only have we had to train hard, but we've also had to overcome others' expectations of us," James continued, reflecting on the pressures weighing on his shoulders like a persistent shadow. "But every step we take together feels like we're forging our own path."

Crossing the threshold of the Viridian Forest, James and Arcanine encountered the vibrant life of Viridian City. The streets were filled with colorful stalls offering all kinds of treats and items for trainers. The air was infused with the sweet aroma of freshly made ice cream, and the cheerful sound of children's laughter filled the atmosphere. Trainers moved back and forth; some proudly displayed their badges while others discussed strategies for their upcoming battles. Flowers bloomed in flowerbeds, and Pokémon happily scampered among the crowd, creating a lively and welcoming environment. James, in his fitted black shirt and dark pants, felt like an outsider in this bustling world; however, curiosity sparkled in his green eyes as he explored every corner.

Suddenly, a little girl ran towards him, an ice cream cone in hand and a big smile on her face. With no time to react, she collided with James, smashing the ice cream against his pants as if it were an accidental masterpiece. The girl's mother froze at the sight of the stain on James's expensive clothing while her father frowned at the imposing presence of Arcanine by his side. "Oh no! I'm so sorry!" exclaimed the mother, fearing that the wealthy child would react with disdain. But James, bending down to look into the girl's eyes as if searching for a hidden treasure in her gaze, smiled kindly and said, "It looks like my pants ate your ice cream." The little girl giggled at the innocent joke; he offered her some Pokédollars. "Go buy yourself another one. You deserve it!" With a wink at Arcanine, who seemed to enjoy the moment as much as he did, James stood up and continued his way toward the Pokémon Center without looking back.

At the Pokémon Center…

Upon entering the Pokémon Center in Viridian City, James felt enveloped by an atmosphere of activity and warmth. The walls were adorned with bright colors; the air was filled with the scent of disinfectant and fresh flowers. Trainers of all ages waited eagerly; some checked their Pokédex while others entertained their Pokémon in spacious waiting areas. In the center of the area stood a large reception desk like a welcoming beacon where Nurse Joy, with her characteristic pink hairstyle and immaculate uniform, attended to trainers with a kind smile that brightened even the grayest days. Around her, Chansey moved gracefully carrying a tray full of Poké Balls and medical supplies.

James approached the desk with Arcanine by his side, feeling the familiarity of the place like a warm embrace. "Hello, Nurse Joy," he greeted with a serene smile that concealed his true fears. "I came for a medical checkup for my Pokémon." Carefully, he took out six Poké Balls from his backpack and placed them on the counter as if they were precious jewels. Joy nodded as she skillfully took the spheres; "Of course! I'll give them a quick check to make sure they're in perfect condition." As she walked away with Chansey.

James seized that moment to head to a phone in the Pokémon Center. He took a deep breath before dialing Hopkins's number on the center's phone; the familiarity of the line comforted him like an old friend lost in time. After a few brief rings, Hopkins's voice resonated on the other end—warm and full of concern.

"Young Master James! How are you?" asked the butler in that tone mixing relief and anxiety as if each word weighed more than a mountain. "I've been worried about you."

"Hello, Hopkins," replied James feeling a genuine smile beginning to form on his face. "I'm fine; just exploring a bit and preparing for the Indigo Conference. I've been training hard with Arcanine and the others." His voice sounded more animated than he truly felt; excitement about his journey kept him going while doubts about his decision loomed like shadows at sunset.

"That's good to hear," said Hopkins although James could detect a slight sigh on the other end. "However, I've noticed that your parents are still somewhat… upset with you. They believe pursuing that dream is unnecessary and that you should focus on your responsibilities."

James frowned feeling a pang in his heart as if he had received an unexpected blow. "I know... I understand how they feel... But this is important to me. I want to prove I can do something more than just meet expectations."

"I understand your desire for independence," replied Hopkins gently almost paternalistic. "But remember they care deeply for you. Although it may seem like they're angry sometimes, they're actually very concerned about you and want what's best for you." Hopkins's words echoed in James's mind like distant echoes reminding him that behind appearances there was genuine love.

"Thank you for telling me that, Hopkins," said James finally feeling slightly lighter as if he had released an invisible burden. "I promise to stay safe and keep pursuing my dreams."

"I hope so too, young master," replied Hopkins with a caring note in his voice. "Take care and don't hesitate to call me if you need anything."

With one last exchange of kind words laden with deep meaning, James hung up feeling an odd mix between gratitude and melancholy. As he looked at Arcanine—his loyal companion—who watched him with unwavering devotion and silent understanding he knew that his journey was just beginning; each step would bring him closer to discovering who he truly was not only for his family but also for himself.

...

The Morgan family mansion loomed imposing on the outskirts of Safron City; surrounded by meticulously maintained gardens whose whispers seemed to tell stories forgotten by past generations. Inside, cool air perfumed with intoxicating scents of freshly cut flowers while chandeliers hung from high ceilings illuminating ancestral portraits whose gazes seemed to follow every intruding movement. In one of those sumptuous yet cold salons—like frozen hearts—James's father sat in a worn leather armchair; his grave expression reflected latent worry for his son.

"What did James say?" he asked turning to Hopkins who was organizing documents like disordered pieces of their family puzzle.

Hopkins replied carefully: "He is well but remains determined to pursue that dream we consider unnecessary." The father nodded slowly feeling that bitter mix between paternal pride and heartbreaking anxiety: "I hope he knows we will always be here for him even if he doesn't understand our worries."

...

Meanwhile—in amidst constant bustle at Pokémon Center—James left after speaking with Nurse Joy just as he was about to explore more of the city when an enthusiastic young trainer intercepted him almost bursting with childlike excitement: "Hey! Are you James Morgan? I've heard so much about you and your Arcanine!" said the boy smiling challengingly as if carrying all youthful energy from around.

"Would you like to have a Pokémon battle? I have a Fearow I'm training."

James looked at Arcanine who responded with an excited bark almost contagious: "Sure I'd love to," replied James letting out a calm smile as they walked toward an open area near Pokémon Center where other trainers watched friendly battles eagerly like spectators awaiting grand spectacles.

The young trainer launched his Fearow into the air; it began flapping around them—its wings extended shining under golden rays of sunlight—as if it were part of that very blue sky above.

"Fearow! Use Pluck!" shouted the trainer as the bird launched a direct attack towards Arcanine who stood firm against imminent challenge.

With calm almost serene yet determined—and knowing how much was at stake—James commanded: "Arcanine use Extreme Speed to dodge!" The Pokémon let out a powerful roar as it darted diagonally almost imperceptibly to human eye.

"Continue with Flamethrower Arcanine" James would order while Arcanine unleashed fiery torrents—orange flames dancing towards Fearow—as if they were shooting stars crossing dark night sky.

The young trainer began getting nervous but managed to call out for Fearow to dodge that blazing Flamethrower; however—James seizing that momentary vulnerability—shouted: "Arcanine close in using Extreme Speed and hit it with Thunder Fang!"

Arcanine swiftly approached reaching Fearow just before final impact—a stunning leap followed by devastating electric attack.

James felt adrenaline starting to surge intensely while fighting not only for victory but also proving himself worthy as trainer in this world full unpredictable uncertain challenges.

As he returned toward his room at Pokémon Center—Arcanine walking proudly beside him—James settled onto bed feeling soft comforting touch of sheets against tired skin while Arcanine curled up next to him seeking warmth shared among faithful friends.

He knew that dawn would bring monumental challenge: facing Giovanni—the leader feared by many.

With thoughts swirling about everything experienced thus far mixed between exciting uncertainty palpable unease he closed his eyes taking deep breaths releasing those doubts alongside deep sleep… "Tomorrow I will have to face all this," he murmured to himself leaving behind all fear insecurity while letting himself drift into unknown lands where each step could define not only path but also who he would truly become…

Hi, this fanfic is more of a fanfic test than anything else, I've posted this before but I felt like I was going too fast so I deleted all the almost 20,000 words and started over, I hope you like it. I got some inspiration from Hard Enough and New Normal. The next chapter will be a flashback to James' life as a child. There will be several chapters like this in the future, if I continue writing it.

!Thank you!
