Facing the menacing Gyarados, Rapidash remained resolute, refusing to back down.

"Rapidash, use Stomp!"

The Gyarados lashed its tail, encased in a surging torrent of water, aiming it directly at Rapidash.

Simultaneously, Rapidash reared up, its flaming mane blazing, and brought its front hooves down with powerful force.

However, before Rapidash's attack could land, Gyarados struck with overwhelming power.

The force of its attack sent Rapidash hurtling through the air like a ragdoll, crashing violently more than ten meters away.

Water-type moves hold the advantage over Fire-types.

As Rapidash struggled to its feet, shaking its head to clear the daze, Blaine shouted: "Rapidash, use Flare Blitz!"

The flames surrounding Rapidash intensified, engulfing its entire body.

It resembled a living fireball, and with a powerful kick-off, it charged at Gyarados with blinding speed.

Knowing the attack would involve physical contact, Kai calmly issued a counter-command: "Gyarados, use Aqua Tail again!"

The two Pokémon collided, and water met fire, creating an explosion of steam that obscured the battlefield.

Yet, Gyarado's Aqua Tail proved stronger, dealing significant damage and forcing Rapidash to retreat several steps.

Blaine furrowed his brow. His Rapidash had already sustained serious injuries after only two exchanges. He realized how formidable Gyarados was in battle.

But there was little Blaine could do. Rapidash's strength lay in close combat, which was severely disadvantaged against a powerful Water-type opponent.

Seeing Blaine hesitate, Kai seized the opportunity to press the attack. "Gyarados, don't give it a chance to recover!"

Blaine, unwilling to relent, countered quickly: "Rapidash, use Flame Wheel!"

Small fireballs began to circle Rapidash as it prepared to charge again. However, just as it was about to attack, Gyarados bared its fangs in an intimidating display.

The fear-inducing ability caused Rapidash to hesitate, its movements faltering.

"This is it!" Kai's eyes gleamed with determination.

"Gyarados, let's unleash Outrage!"

At the command, Gyarados let out a deafening roar. Its eyes glowed blood-red as it entered a state of berserk rage, focusing only on destruction.

With pure brute force, it lashed out with its head, body, and tail, smashing everything in its path.

The battlefield shook violently under Gyarados' relentless assault, and the chains anchoring the suspended platform groaned under the strain.

Dust and debris clouded the arena, obscuring visibility. When the chaos finally subsided, Rapidash lay unconscious in a deep crater, its body battered and bruised.

"Alright!!"

Before Kai could respond, Misty jumped up in excitement, clearly more thrilled by the victory than even Kai himself.

Ash and Brock applauded from the sidelines.

"Return, Rapidash," Blaine said softly, recalling his defeated Pokémon. He prepared for the next round, though his confidence had been shaken.

Kai, on the other hand, relaxed slightly. Having defeated Blaine's Rapidash, he felt the pressure lessen.

"You're tough much tougher than that kid earlier," Blaine admitted. "But let's see how you handle this!"

With a flourish, Blaine sent out his second Pokémon. "Come out, Ninetales!"

The elegant Fox Pokémon appeared, its shimmering golden fur catching the light.

Despite the battle so far, Kai chose to stick with Gyarados.

"Gyarados, keep up the momentum!"

The battle resumed with Blaine employing a familiar strategy. "Ninetales, use Fire Spin!"

Kai smirked. "Gyarados, counter with Whirlpool!"

The two vortexes, one of flame and the other of water, collided mid-air. As expected, the water attack overpowered the fire, extinguishing the flames and hitting Ninetales directly.

"Ninetales, are you alright?" Blaine called out, concerned as his Pokémon staggered from the blow. "Use Confuse Ray!"

A colourful beam shot out from Ninetales' mouth, aiming straight for Gyarados.

"Dodge it!" Kai ordered.

Though Kai's command came swiftly, Gyarados wasn't fast enough and was struck by the attack. Its movements became erratic as it succumbed to confusion.

"Well done!" Blaine said. "Now, Ninetales, use Quick Attack!"

Ninetales darted forward at lightning speed, slamming into Gyarados. The impact jolted Gyarados back to its senses, shaking off the confusion.

"Gyarados, Aqua Tail!"

Gyarados swung its tail, water spiralling around it, but Ninetales leapt nimbly out of the way.

"Let's do it again Confuse Ray!" Blaine commanded.

Kai's expression darkened. He needed a plan. His eyes fell on the heavy iron chains securing the battlefield. A grin spread across his face.

"Gyarados, break the chain next to you!"

Though puzzled, Gyarados obeyed, smashing the chain with its tail. The platform tilted sharply, causing Ninetales to lose balance and its Confuse Ray to miss by a hair's breadth.

"What!?" Blaine exclaimed, startled by the sudden shift.

"Ninetales!"

Seizing the moment, Kai gave his decisive command. "Gyarados, Bite!"

Leaping forward, Gyarados sank its fangs into Ninetales, pinning it in place. Despite its desperate struggles, Ninetales couldn't free itself from Gyarados' iron grip.
