Pokemon: Scientist From One Piece

Chapter 10: 10

"What exactly was that Pokémon here for?" Staring at the windowsill where Umbreon had disappeared, Yishu remained stunned, unable to recover for a long time. If I were to face it… could I win? No! I will win! I, Yishu, am a genius! In my hometown, even adults can't beat me.

"Not necessarily, kid." Chuck, who saw through Yishu's thoughts, teased, "If that new type of Eevee had a trainer and they worked together, you wouldn't stand a chance."

"What a joke, I haven't lost since I started my journey!" Yishu shouted, indignant, and stormed out of the Cianwood Gym.

"But that Eevee's fighting style is truly unique. I wonder what kind of person its trainer is. If he also participates in this year's Indigo Plateau Conference and ends up facing Yishu, it'll be an interesting match."

Pat-pat~ Pat-pat~ Small pebbles fell on Chuck's forehead. He looked up and noticed the hole Umbreon had blasted in the ceiling earlier. "Uh… guess I'll have to apply for league repair funds first."

Meanwhile, Hirito successfully met up with Giovanni and began what could only be described as a Singles' Day shopping spree using the latter's card. In the end, because he had bought too much and couldn't carry it all, he had to arrange for home delivery.

"I've bought basically everything I can. The rest is up to you, Uncle Giovanni." Hirito glanced at his shopping list. Povidone-iodine, test tubes, beakers, microscopes… Basic medical equipment could be bought at professional stores, but advanced lab instruments were another story. Those were controlled by the Joy family. Items like thermostatic incubators, medical centrifuges, and clinical analyzers required not just professional certification, but also Joy family approval. Hirito had neither the time nor the patience for that. He could only rely on Giovanni's connections.

Giovanni took the list and glanced at some of the equipment names, many of which he had never even heard of. He felt that this kid was becoming more and more unfathomable.

"Heh, the total cost of all this—plus that house—exceeds the price of a Dratini." Giovanni chuckled. He had originally wanted to sell Hirito a favor by offering him a Dratini. Seeing that Hirito didn't want it, he had thought he could save some money. After all, while Team Rocket was already a known criminal organization, it hadn't yet grown into the Kanto-dominating behemoth it would become. If it had, then his son wouldn't have mysteriously disappeared. But as it turned out, Hirito's requests cost more than a Dratini.

"You can't catch a Growlithe without letting go of your Poké Doll. Besides, it's just a Dratini, right? The rewards you'll get in the future will be far greater." Hirito smirked. "You need to broaden your horizons, Boss Giovanni."

"Heh, you sound like you're looking down on Dratini. You do realize that Dratini is the dream Pokémon of countless trainers, right?" Giovanni raised an eyebrow.

"That's not it, but its situation is a bit… awkward." Hirito's words confused Giovanni. What did he mean?

Well… In this era, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Gigantamax hadn't been discovered yet. And to Hirito, a time traveler, Dragonite's treatment as the first pseudo-legendary Pokémon was a joke. No Mega Evolution. No exclusive Z-Move. No Gigantamax form. Salamence, Metagross, and Garchomp—all later pseudo-legendaries—got major buffs. Even Goodra got an Ancient Form. Meanwhile, Dragonite? Nothing. It was like being raised by a stepmother while Charizard, the "favorite child," got two Mega Evolutions, a Gigantamax form, and an exclusive Z-Move.

"Although I don't know what exactly you're trying to say, I'd advise you not to let the new Elite Four of the Indigo League hear that." Giovanni chuckled.

He was referring to the Dragon-type Elite Four who had risen to prominence last year, surpassing all challengers to join the Indigo League's strongest ranks. Though Giovanni had never met him personally, he had heard plenty about him.

Apparently, this Elite Four member was obsessed with Dragon-types. His team consisted of six Pokémon, including two Dragonair and one Dragonite.

When Giovanni first heard this, he had been genuinely baffled.

"Who builds a team like that?"

"Flying-type Elite Four, right? Haha~ I know." Hirito smirked, barely suppressing his laughter.

It wasn't hard to find basic information online. The current Indigo League Champion was still Agatha. But it was only a matter of time before she was replaced by the Dragon Tamer, Lance.

Oh, and by the way, his name was just 'Lance'. "Dragon Clan" or "Yulong" was simply a nickname, like calling Luffy "Straw Hat Luffy."

"I've arranged for your equipment, but it'll take a week to arrive," Giovanni said, setting down his phone as they arrived at the beachside house.

"That's fine. With what I have now, I can start researching immediately." Hirito nodded, then turned to the delivery crew.

"Put the office table here, place the experiment table by the window. Thanks…"

The workers nodded, commanding their Machoke to begin unloading the goods.

Hirito suddenly had a nostalgic thought.

"Back when I played Pokémon Emerald, didn't Machoke help the protagonist move in?"

Or was it Vigoroth?

Eh, I can't remember…

His gaze landed on the moving truck's logo— Machoke Moving Company.

Well, it was clear. Pokémon were fully integrated into daily life in this world.

"Mr. Giovanni, here's the house contract. Once you confirm, you can sign it."

A new group of people arrived. Leading them was a middle-aged man in a tailored suit, about the same age as Giovanni. Unlike Giovanni's burly build, this man was leaner, with graying hair and the air of a handsome businessman.

Hirito's eyes flicked to the nameplate on the man's suit.

[President Nashizuki]

"Long time no see, President Nashizuki." Giovanni shook hands with him and took the contract.

"Can the owner be this kid?" Giovanni pointed at Hirito with his thumb.

"If he's a minor, then according to League law, it's not allowed. But if you request it, Mr. Giovanni, of course, we can make a… small exception." Nashizuki smiled, though his eyes gleamed with curiosity.

"I just don't know who this young master is…"

"Uh… he is…" Giovanni hesitated.

Damn. He forgot to come up with a backstory.

Hirito opened his mouth, about to say something cryptic—

"—"

"Uh… this kid is my nephew." Giovanni cut in immediately.

He didn't know why, but he had a feeling that if he let Hirito finish speaking…

He'd definitely regret it.
