Chapter 368: Chapter 50: Rudy

Following the elevated pathway leading to the small island, Ash, guided by the gym staff, arrived at the battlefield.

Around the island, more than ten hot air balloons hovered, carrying spectators eager to watch the upcoming battle.

These balloons were available for rent and served as an additional revenue stream for Trovita Gym.

Misty and Tracey, as Ash's companions, were granted complimentary rides, a benefit extended to challengers' friends.

"Mr. Ash, I've been waiting for you!" A voice called out as they approached the battlefield.

The speaker was Rudy, the leader of Trovita Gym.

He was a young man, no more than fifteen or sixteen years old, but his formal attire—a black shirt, white vest, trousers, and polished leather shoes—gave him a mature and composed appearance.

His neatly parted hairstyle further emphasized his serious demeanor.

Rudy was known as the youngest gym leader among the Southern Cross of the Orange Islands.

His strength and potential had earned him praise, with many suggesting he should leave the Orange Islands to pursue greater opportunities elsewhere.

However, Rudy remained on Trovita Island to care for his younger sister after the loss of their parents, prioritizing family over personal ambition.

"Hello, Mr. Rudy," Ash said, adjusting his cap in acknowledgment.

"Referee, state the rules," Rudy said with little preamble, clearly eager to begin the battle.

The referee stepped forward and announced the rules:

"This gym challenge is between challenger Ash and gym leader Rudy. Both sides will use three Pokémon each. The challenger may substitute Pokémon during the battle. The match will conclude when one side loses all three Pokémon."

The rules mirrored those of traditional gym challenges. Ash recognized that Rudy's adherence to these standardized rules reflected his aspirations beyond the Orange Islands, aiming for a style aligned with the wider Pokémon world.

"It's time, Alakazam!" Rudy called, releasing his first Pokémon. In a flash of white light, Alakazam appeared, clutching spoons in both hands.

Rudy's Alakazam was one of his most trusted Pokémon, known for its impressive strength. Facing Ash, Rudy felt a nervous energy reminiscent of his battle with Lorelei two years ago.

"Snorlax, I choose you!" Ash declared, releasing his own Pokémon.

The massive Snorlax appeared with a yawn, its sheer presence drawing gasps from the spectators.

Ash had been training Snorlax to adapt to competitive battles and was using this opportunity to refine their synergy.

Rudy's eyes narrowed as he recognized Snorlax from Ash's earlier battles, including its stunning performance against Lorelei.

The audience, too, murmured in recognition of the powerful Pokémon.

"Let the battle begin!" the referee declared.

Ash seized the initiative. "Snorlax, charge forward and use Body Slam!"

Snorlax roared, it's usually placid expression sharpening into one of determination. Energy surged around its body as it lumbered forward with surprising speed.

With a mighty leap, Snorlax launched itself nearly ten meters into the air, aiming to crush Alakazam beneath its massive frame.

"Alakazam, Teleport to dodge!" Rudy shouted.

A flash of pink and purple light surrounded Alakazam as it vanished, reappearing safely ten meters away.

Meanwhile, Snorlax slammed into the ground with tremendous force, causing the battlefield to tremble violently.

The shockwave even knocked Alakazam off balance, a testament to Snorlax's raw power.

"Such incredible strength," Rudy muttered, his eyes wide. "If Alakazam takes even one direct hit, it's over."

The audience murmured in awe. They had heard of Snorlax's reputation, but witnessing its power firsthand was another matter entirely.

Ash wasted no time. "Snorlax, use Mega Punch!"

Snorlax straightened, moving with an agility that defied its size. Concentrating energy into its right fist, it charged at Alakazam, intent on landing a decisive blow.

"Teleport again!" Rudy commanded.

Alakazam disappeared once more, reappearing a safe distance away. However, Snorlax reacted immediately, tracking Alakazam's new location.

It stomped the ground with its right foot, forcing a sharp, nearly impossible change in direction to continue its pursuit.

The spectators gasped at Snorlax's determination and the sheer audacity of its movements.

Rudy realized the futility of prolonged evasion. "Alakazam, use Psychic!"

Alakazam's eyes glowed with a purple light as it unleashed a wave of psychic energy. The attack struck Snorlax, momentarily slowing its advance.

"Snorlax, shake it off and use Ice Punch!" Ash countered.

Snorlax powered through the psychic assault, its fist now shimmering with freezing energy. As it closed the distance, the arena grew tense, both sides fully aware of the stakes.

"Alakazam, Disable!" Rudy shouted.

Alakazam's eyes flashed again, targeting Snorlax's Ice Punch to prevent its continued use.

"Snorlax, switch to Heavy Slam!" Ash commanded without missing a beat.

Snorlax adapted instantly, using its massive weight as a weapon. It lunged at Alakazam with overwhelming force.

The battlefield erupted in a clash of power and strategy as both Trainers pushed their Pokémon to the limit, thrilling the audience with the intensity of the battle.
