Pokemon: Behold the Father of All Pokemons

Chapter 37: Chapter 36: Unlocking New Features

Sorry for the late update, just came back from my job.

During the review by Megan and her team, Ethan initially cooperated fully, answering questions and showcasing the Pokémon. But as the process dragged on, he discreetly stepped aside and opened the system interface.

It had been nearly 20 days since his last dice roll. While the cooldown for the first roll had been close to a month, subsequent intervals were shortening. Now, the timer had finally expired.

"I can roll the dice again," Ethan muttered, a mix of anticipation and skepticism in his voice. "Let's see if this one actually gets me somewhere."

He tapped on the triangular dice icon, watching it vibrate and spin before settling.

The number on the front was 3.

"Seriously? Only one point higher than last time?" Ethan sighed, shaking his head. "At this rate, I'll hit double digits when I'm old and gray."

Despite his irritation, the accelerating cooldown offered a silver lining. "At least the next roll might be ready in ten days. Progress is progress," he muttered, forcing himself to look on the bright side.

Setting aside his frustration, Ethan browsed the Pokédex. While many entries remained locked, the ones he had already unlocked filled him with pride. His attention fell on Bulbasaur.

"I've got Charmander and Squirtle already. Leaving out Bulbasaur just doesn't feel right," Ethan said, confirming the choice and spending 1 point.

The system chimed. "Congratulations to the host for triggering the lucky mechanism. You have obtained an 'Evo Pill,' added to your inventory."

Ethan's mood brightened instantly. "An Evo Pill? Not bad. Maybe my luck isn't so terrible after all."

Encouraged, he returned to the Pokédex, his gaze settling on a familiar figure, Meowth. The idea of training one to talk, like its animated counterpart in Team Rocket, intrigued him.

"Meowth it is," Ethan decided, unlocking it with another point.

The system's voice returned. "The host has unlocked a total of five Pokémon. You have earned a chance to spin the lottery. Would you like to proceed?"

Ethan blinked in surprise, then grinned. "Yes," he said, tapping the confirmation button.

A large roulette wheel appeared on the interface, packed with tantalizing prizes, their was rare Pokémons, advanced items, and mysterious rewards.

The wheel spun rapidly, the colors blending into a blur as Ethan watched, his breath held.

"Stop," he whispered, even though he had no control over the outcome.

The wheel slowed, its pointer inching toward a section that made Ethan's pulse quicken. When it stopped, the pointer rested squarely on Mew.

Ethan froze, staring at the screen in disbelief. "Mew? No way."

The system confirmed "Pokémon Mew has been unlocked." The Pokédex updated instantly, a glowing square revealing the legendary Pokémon's entry.

Ethan's jaw dropped. Mew wasn't even listed in the standard Pokédex, it had seemed utterly unattainable. To unlock it now through sheer luck felt surreal.

Still buzzing with excitement, Ethan returned to the Pokédex for one last pick. His eyes scanned the Flying-types: Hoothoot, Natu, Pidgey, and Farfetch'd. After brief deliberation, he settled on Hoothoot.

"It's intelligent, knows Hypnosis, and could even help insomniacs. A practical choice," he reasoned, finalizing the decision.

The system chimed again. "Congratulations to the host for triggering the lucky mechanism. You have obtained a 'Pokémon Monitor,' added to your inventory."

Curious, Ethan opened his inventory to examine the item.

Pokémon Monitor: Allows tagging of Pokémons to monitor their health and status in real time.

A radar-like interface appeared on the screen, complete with options to track individual Pokémon.

"If this works during battles or emergencies, it could be a game-changer," Ethan thought, already envisioning its potential uses.

Meanwhile, Megan and her team had completed their evaluation. The Squirtles had impressed them with their playful personalities, docile nature, and non-aggressive abilities, which made them an appealing choice compared to Pokémon like Pikachu with its powerful Thunder Shock move.

"Mr. Grave," one of the reviewers ventured, "can I ask you something?"

Ethan turned toward the speaker. "Of course. What's on your mind?"

The reviewer hesitated. "I'm a huge fan of Pichu. Do you think it's possible to create a simplified version, one without electric abilities or evolutionary traits? That might make it more affordable."

Ethan's expression darkened slightly, his tone firm as he replied. "I'm afraid that's not part of the plan. Pichu will always have its electric abilities and evolutionary potential."

The reviewer looked startled, and Ethan continued. "The price is high because Pichu can't reproduce naturally yet, it has to be cultivated in tanks, which consumes significant resources. Once we develop a way for Pichu to lay eggs naturally, costs will drop. But until then, simplifying its traits isn't an option."

The team exchanged skeptical glances. "But why reduce the price if you're already making a profit?" one asked.

Ethan's eyes gleamed with determination. "This isn't just about profit. My goal is to make Pokémon accessible to everyone. I want them to bring joy to people across the world. That day will come, and time will prove it."

Megan was the first to respond, her voice brimming with conviction. "Mr. Grave, I believe in your grand vision."

Her enthusiasm was contagious, and the other auditors soon echoed her sentiments. Some even began wondering what it might be like to leave their current jobs and join Pokémon Biotech.
