Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Additional Effect of Dragon Rage
After these enhancements, Lian's remaining Combat Points totaled 3,292. He felt there was still room for further improvement.
"Let's increase Explosive Power."
Considering his options, Lian decided to boost Explosive Power. Currently at 1.2 times, each increment of 0.01 times required consuming one hundred Combat Points. With 3,292 Combat Points, he could elevate Explosive Power to 1.52 times its base value.
Given Lian's current speed ability of 649 points, achieving a 1.52 times Explosive Power would result in an instantaneous burst reaching 986 points of speed ability.
Although Explosive Power lasts only briefly, its impact is significant. Without it during today's battle, he might not have been able to dodge Gligar and Fearow's moves effectively.
"Let's round it up, enhance to exactly 1.5 times."
After some thought, Lian increased Explosive Power to 1.5 times, leaving him with only 292 Combat Points. Despite this, Lian was highly satisfied; his strength had once again significantly improved.

As the sun began to rise, its warm rays streamed through the window, enveloping Lian with comforting heat.
Basking briefly in the sunlight, Lian leaned against the window, gazing absentmindedly at the bustling crowd outside through the transparent glass pane.
"Charmeleon, what are you looking at?"
Unbeknownst to him, Kalia had already finished her morning routine and approached, gently stroking his horns before peering out the window alongside him.
Lian shook his head, freeing himself from Kalia's touch, then walked over to the dining table, taking a seat as he awaited breakfast.
"We'll be leaving this city tomorrow," Kalia announced, releasing Grovyle from its Poké Ball for their meal preparation.
Lian wasn't surprised; after obtaining the Flight Badge, there was no reason to stay longer.
During their time here, Lian gained some knowledge about the Sebas Region, primarily from overhearing conversations between Kalia and other Trainers.
The next gym was located in Pearl City, a port town known for its Water Gym.
After defeating the Water Gym and earning three red star badges, one could apply for the beginner Trainer assessment, shedding the novice title and becoming a recognized beginner Trainer.
After breakfast, Kalia, as usual, took Lian and Grovyle to the Pokémon Center for practical combat training.
At the battle arena within the Pokémon Center,
Kalia faced off against Laro, a beginner Trainer who often engaged her in Pokémon battles. However, despite their encounters typically ending with more losses than wins for Laro, he persistently sought out these battles to improve his Pokémon's strength and learn from Kalia's commanding skills.
Kalia greatly admired Laro's positive mindset; even after swift defeats, he always smiled, acknowledging the need for further effort.
For this particular battle, Lian volunteered to participate, eager to observe the additional effects of Dragon Rage. In most standard fights, Kalia encouraged him to use Dragon Rage, allowing for quick validation of its impact.
Laro sent out a Rock-type Graveler, which Lian had previously analyzed through battle data. The Graveler was at a high level, already reaching Level 26. However, due to its slow speed, Lian consistently managed to defeat it by exploiting his own agility advantage.
Despite Graveler being both Rock and Ground-type, fully countering Lian's Pokémon, the battle fields at the Pokémon Center prohibited moves like Earthquake to prevent damaging the arena terrain. The center simply didn't have the funds for constant repairs.
Without its Magnitude move, Graveler couldn't truly overpower Lian. Magnitude causes intense ground vibrations; unless Lian had a flying Pokémon, it would be challenging to evade this Ground-type attack.
After each defeat, Laro quickly challenged again, aiming to train Graveler's ability to face high-speed Pokémon. Given Graveler's poor speed capabilities, regularly battling against swift Pokémon could enhance its experience in such encounters.
Kalia never refused Laro's challenges and often utilized Graveler for her Pokémon's evasion training. For instance, when Golem used Rock Throw, Kalia would instruct Grovyle or Charmeleon to dodge.
This type of training significantly improved the Pokémon's evasive skills and reaction abilities.
As the battle commenced, Laro gave his first command, "Graveler, use Rock Throw." Over time, he and Kalia developed an understanding, mutually training their Pokémon to enhance various combat skills.
"Charmeleon, try to dodge the falling rocks and then use Dragon Rage," Kalia instructed. Despite Charmeleon's speed being sufficient to easily avoid Graveler's Rock Throw range, her focus was on training its evasive skills.
The process of evasion was crucial. Although Charmeleon was already powerful, honing its agility remained essential.
As Lian observed Graveler preparing for Rock Throw, he grew more serious. This particular Graveler had extensively trained this move, achieving high proficiency; each rock hurled with remarkable accuracy, demanding full attention to evade.
Earlier, Lian overheard Kalia and Laro discussing how Laro was saving money to purchase a Move Disk for Rock Slide, indicating that practicing Rock Throw served as preparation for mastering Rock Slide.
Graveler, heavy and slow, could only stand in place, lifting its rocky arms as it gathered energy to create individual rocks, continuously hurling them towards Lian.
Rocks whistled through the air like meteors plummeting one after another. Lian closely tracked their trajectories, utilizing his exceptional speed to dart left and right without a moment's respite.
Lian continuously evaded the rocks, mastering the art of dodging Graveler's Rock Throw without any missteps, successfully avoiding each incoming projectile.
Soon, Graveler's Rock Throw maneuver ended as there were no additional rocks on the battlefield, and its ability to generate rock formations was limited by its own energy reserves.
"Your Charmeleon is truly exceptional!"
Laro couldn't help but express his admiration every time he witnessed this agile Charmeleon flawlessly dodge all the rocks. He yearned for a Pokemon with such remarkable speed himself.
The sight of a swift and nimble Pokemon constantly evading attacks before launching a decisive counterstrike was undeniably impressive.
While Laro felt envious, Lian had already ceased his movements and unleashed Dragon Rage towards Graveler.
A surge of fury mixed with Dragon-type energy welled up within him, compelling Lian to instinctively open his mouth, releasing a powerful shockwave.
Now it was time to discover the enhanced effects of Dragon Rage at its maximum proficiency level. Lian assessed his body, noticing no significant changes.
Dragon Rage accurately struck Graveler; even with Golem's speed, it could not evade the impact.
Laro rarely trained Graveler's speed due to its significant weakness in that aspect. Instead, focusing on enhancing Graveler's attack and defense capabilities proved more effective than improving its evasion skills.
As Dragon Rage continuously struck Graveler, Lian observed the shockwaves generated by the move but still didn't perceive any noticeable changes.
Just as Dragon Rage finished unleashing, Lian suddenly experienced another surge of anger within him. Following this, he felt his strength seemingly increase significantly.
The feeling of rage quickly dissipated, but the enhanced strength remained, evident to Lian.
"Is this...an increased Attack ability value?"
Although Lian seldom used attacking moves, occasionally when facing Pokemon with high Special Defense, Kalia would have him use Fire Fang to counter them. At that moment, he distinctly sensed an enhancement in his Attack ability value, and it was a substantial boost.
Lian felt somewhat disappointed. He had hoped reaching the limit of Dragon Rage might further increase the fixed damage output, but instead, it only temporarily boosted his Attack ability value after release.
Currently, Lian lacked impressive attacking moves, coupled with his relatively low Attack ability value. Consequently, this additional effect of Dragon Rage wasn't particularly useful for him.
