Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Too Intense
Lian practiced his Hidden Power technique for a while but soon stopped due to overwhelming fatigue, feeling ready to sleep.
He eagerly hopped onto the bed and quickly drifted off, anticipating the combat rating results later that night.
In the middle of the night, Lian entered the system space, excitedly approaching the data panel. Today's combat rating wasn't impressive, yielding only around 300 Combat Points as a reward - just mediocre.
Normally, even if he didn't defeat higher-level Pokemon without taking damage, he would still earn four or five hundred Combat Points. Therefore, receiving only three hundred was quite disappointing.
As Pokemon levels increase, their Stamina also improves, resulting in significantly higher output rewards upon defeating them. Consequently, with each level gained, the combat ratings gradually rise.
What Lian most anticipated were encounters with Pokemon possessing self-healing moves. Unfortunately, such Pokemon were rare, and typically these abilities could only be learned at higher levels.
He recalled that flying-type Pokemon could learn Roost, allowing them to rest by descending from the sky, thereby recovering health and stamina.
Encountering one of those would be ideal, though it seemed challenging. Pokemons capable of learning Roost usually required being at least Level 30, which meant Lian wouldn't stand a chance against them yet.
Apart from Roost, there were similar moves like Synthesis, Moonlight, and Recover, which could also heal injuries.
Many Pokemon likely possessed such abilities. As their strength increased, Trainers would undoubtedly teach them these recovery moves for sustained endurance during battles.
Once Lian's power level improves, he will eventually encounter Pokemon with high output capabilities in future encounters.
Currently, Lian has accumulated over 2,000 Combat Points. He calculated that to maximize his speed ability value by +40, he needs 3,600 Combat Points. This is because he is already Level 15; if he were still at Level 14, it would have required only 2,880 Combat Points.
His current goal is to accumulate 3,600 Combat Points before evolving, allowing him to instantly boost his speed ability value to its maximum of +40, resulting in a total base stat of 105 for speed.
With this, upon evolution, he would immediately possess nearly 600 speed points, significantly increasing his chances of success at the Extreme Speed Conference.
Approaching 600 speed with a staggering 120 base stat, even many flying-type Pokemon don't achieve such high speed values.
Considering Lian's low level, this should still surpass the speed of most Pokemon below Level 20.
With over a thousand Combat Points remaining to reach his goal, Lian planned to engage in several intense battles over the next few days, aiming for at least C-grade combat ratings or higher.
Next, he turned his attention to movesets. Uncertain if today's awakened Hidden Power would be recorded by the system, he decided to check and find out.
"It's there!" Lian's face lit up with delight as the system did not disappoint him. Behind Swift, the newly awakened Hidden Power appeared, also initially dimmed. It seemed that any moveable ability could be displayed by the system after watching its demonstration video a few times and practicing it accordingly.
However, an even greater surprise awaited Lian. After activating Hidden Power, it immediately underwent a transformation:
Hidden Power: Rock/Grass/Water/Flying...
"Wow, that's insane!" Lian was astounded, discovering all sixteen elemental types of Hidden Power listed, although only the first one, Rock Type, was illuminated, while the rest remained dim.
There were only sixteen Hidden Powers because Fairy and Normal types were excluded.
Lian refrained from immediately activating all subsequent attributes, unsure if doing so would consume excessive Combat Points. Awakening Rock was already quite advantageous, and there was no immediate need to activate all Hidden Powers. In regular battles, he could only utilize one attribute at a time; using multiple might raise suspicions with Kalia, making her think he's some kind of anomaly.
Awakening Rock should suffice for now, especially since they were about to challenge the Flying Type Gym. With Hidden Power Rock, combating flying-type Pokémon would be significantly easier.
Although not activating all attributes, it was essential to unlock Grass Type as well. Having Hidden Power Grass would provide effective moves against Water, Ground, or Rock-type Pokémon in future encounters.
In the early stages, neither Charmander nor Charmeleon had reliable moves to counter water-types effectively. Even Solar Beam, a powerful Grass-type move, requires sunny weather conditions to maximize its impact.
For Lian, awakening his Grass Type was timely rain; until he evolves into Charizard, encountering Pokémon that have advantages over him will no longer be a significant concern due to having counter moves.
After evolving into Charizard, with the addition of the Flying Type, although gaining more resistances, it also introduces several new weaknesses.
With a single click on the dimmed Grass attribute, within the next second, his Combat Points instantly decreased by one hundred points. Clearly, the system didn't intend for him to effortlessly acquire numerous Special Attack moves across various types.
Considering Hidden Power has only 60 base power, and Lian hasn't yet evolved, possessing such a wide range of elemental Special Attacks would indeed be too overpowering at this stage.
Behind "Hidden Power," both Rock and Grass now appeared illuminated, while the others remained dull.
"Perfect." Feeling quite pleased, Lian knew the upcoming days might be challenging. Not only did he need to increase his combat rating, but he also had to carefully time his evolution.
He aimed to accumulate sufficient Combat Points before evolving and must do so prior to the Extreme Speed Conference, otherwise, he wouldn't be eligible to participate.

The next day.
Lian showcased his Hidden Power during training. In Kalia's eyes, he was already a highly proficient Pokemon with strong mastery over moves, so learning Hidden Power within two days didn't seem surprising.
While initially astonished, her surprise quickly turned to delight. She composed herself and began assessing the attribute of Lian's Hidden Power.
Different attributes of Hidden Power manifest with distinct colors when released; Rock Type Hidden Power emits a light brown energy, which Kalia identified swiftly.
Although not the ideal Grass Type for Charmander, Rock Type was still quite advantageous. After all, perfection is rare in this world.
Moreover, having a Rock-Type Hidden Power would make challenging the upcoming Flying Type Gym significantly easier.
Time flew by, leaving less than two days until the Extreme Speed Conference. The event was scheduled for the following day after tomorrow.
After intense efforts over these past two days, Lian finally accumulated enough Combat Points to further enhance his speed ability level.
Within System Space:
Lian glanced at his current data panel: Level 15 speed ability value was at 476 points, indicating exceptionally swift velocity. However, to secure first place in the Extreme Speed Conference, it still fell short.
Upon reaching level 16 and evolving, Lian would experience a significant increase in base stats, including a substantial boost to his speed ability value. Therefore, the faster he could become now, the greater his speed would be post-evolution.
With 3,638 Combat Points available, Lian confidently opened the speed ability section and rapidly clicked on the plus sign. This time, his calculations were precise; there was no risk of overshooting, allowing him to click away with abandon.
476...477...478...479...
Each point of ability cost 120 Combat Points. When Lian reached 38 remaining Combat Points, unable to further enhance his abilities, his speed ability value surpassed five hundred, increasing to 506 points.
Increasing by 30 ability points consumed 3,600 Combat Points, equivalent to raising his speed base stat by 10 points.
In other words, Lian's current speed base stat had reached 105, significantly surpassing that of most fully evolved Pokemon.
"Now all that remains is evolution."
