Pokemon: A Journey of Champions

Chapter 4: Pokemon: A Journey of Champions #3

The day dawned covered by a grayish layer, reflecting the grim situation in which Adrian found himself. Despite being bruised, malnourished, and wearing tattered clothes, there was a spark of determination in his eyes and a tranquility that characterized James. He was not a man who would easily give up. Although his body showed traces of misery, his mind was sharper than ever, marked by the experience of a past life that still influenced his decisions.

It had been a month since he arrived in this world in Pewter City, and although time had not been kind, Adrian did not feel despair in his heart. The man he had been before, James, knew how to survive in a ruthless world. Adaptation was his strength, and although the situation he found himself in now was precarious, Adrian did not feel fear. He had been through worse in his previous life.

Nights on the cold ground no longer intimidated him. The physical wounds were a constant reminder of what he was willing to do to move forward. And although the lack of food and resources weakened him, James's fighting spirit was still alive in him. He knew he could not fall so low, not when he had a plan in mind.

Flashback Before Reincarnating:

The night before had been another of those nights when hunger pushed him to act. He needed money to survive, to get some food, to improve his situation. So, once again, he had resorted to theft. Wallets, jewelry, anything he could take without being seen. His goal was clear: survive. He knew that if he got caught, the consequences would be severe, but he had no other choice.

While stealing, something unexpected happened. The leader of the Pewter City gym, Brock, saw him. It wasn't hard to detect since Adrian was not exactly trained for stealth. Realizing he had been discovered, he thought of nothing but escaping. He climbed a nearby wall with agility, like a crazed monkey, but the escape was short-lived. Brock and his two companions quickly arrived, breaking down the door of the house where he had taken refuge. The look in Brock's eyes was one of a man who had no patience.

—Thief... —said Brock with a cruel smile—. Do you think you can escape from me? You're trash!

Brock's companions laughed, approaching to grab him. Adrian tried to defend himself, but the blows started raining down on him. They were hard and constant. Each impact left him weaker until he finally fell to the ground, unable to resist anymore. The pain was unbearable, but he couldn't give up. When they threw him out the window, the cold ground received him as a harsh welcome.

End of Flashback.

Adrian, breathing deeply, pushed away the painful memories. He knew what he had to do. His situation was critical, but his mind was not. He knew he couldn't go on like this for long. He had to find a way to improve. He had to take control of his destiny.

—Step one: get money. he said to himself, looking at his desolate surroundings—. The Alliance's currency is the key. I need resources to survive, buy food and clothes.

His gaze shifted towards the horizon, where Pewter City began to emerge from the morning shadows. In his mind, he recalled what he knew about the Alliance: only those born with money or resources could access their benefits. He couldn't join them without first gaining some power.

—Step two: find a way to join Team Rocket. he continued in his thoughts, with a fleeting smile. He had his first encounter with the organization, and despite everything, it seemed one of the few options left for him. The Alliance would not accept an orphan without resources, but Team Rocket... that was a different story.

One month later...

During this month, Adrian had honed his skills in theft. He learned to move more stealthily, to be more efficient. He couldn't afford to make mistakes, not after what happened last time. Thanks to his efforts, he had managed to gather enough to buy decent clothes: dark pants, a red and black hoodie, and sneakers. He also bought a fox mask to hide his face. Additionally, he acquired what he needed to cook and care for his malnourished body, something he had learned to do during a past mission when he had to assume the role of a professional chef for several months.

But the most important thing was the book he had acquired on plants and berries. He knew he couldn't rely solely on conventional resources to survive. He needed to learn to use what nature offered. So, with his backpack loaded with new knowledge and resources, he headed to the shop of old man Julian, who had given clues about the secret location of the Team Rocket base.

When Adrian entered the shop, he was greeted by the old man, who welcomed him with a kind smile. Without beating around the bush, Adrian expressed his desire to join Team Rocket.

—I want to join Team Rocket —he said with determination.

Julian quickly changed his expression, becoming serious.

—How did you find out? he asked cautiously.

—It was easy. I saw several people with the uniform, with the "R" on their chest. I followed them to your shop and then you took me to the forest. I suspected something, so I decided to come. I want to join because I have nothing. I am alone in this world.

Julian looked at him for a moment, evaluating his words. Finally, he handed him a map.

—Take this map —he said, with a penetrating gaze. When you reach the marked place, you will find a giant stone with a hole. Insert this map there and you will know what to do next.

Adrian took the map, thanked the old man, and left, jumping among the trees to reach the location. As he moved through the forest, he observed his surroundings, seeing Pokémon like Pidgey, Spearow, and Caterpie. In his thoughts, the feeling of getting closer to his destination filled him with excitement but he remained calm.

Finally, upon reaching the indicated place, he saw the giant stone with a hole in its center. Without hesitation, he inserted the map, waiting for what would happen next...
