Chapter 288: Chapter 288: Kuroba Kaito's Confidence

"I'm sure I saw Korn hit Kid on the head, and Kid fell down."

"As for why Kaitou Kid showed up to steal the gems in the end, I have no idea what happened."

Vodka, feeling Gin's cold gaze on him, grew nervous and quickly recounted the situation.

They had no idea how Kaitou Kid had survived.

At that moment, they had seen the scene of Kaitou Kid flying off the roof of the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, and both of them had been completely stunned.

---

Toru Amuro had originally thought Gin would interrogate Vodka and Korn further about the incident.

However, Amuro soon realized that Gin easily believed Vodka's account.

Gin simply questioned Vodka and Korn briefly, then shifted his attention back to Toru Amuro.

"The reason Kaitou Kid survived is probably due to his magic tricks," Gin said.

"He's had a similar experience before—where it seemed like he was struck, but it was actually just a decoy."

"And during that time, the real Kaitou Kid took advantage of the distraction to escape the police's attention."

---

Gin's cold gaze locked onto Amuro.

"So, I'm more curious," he continued.

"Why did you decide to hand the gem over to the organization, despite being certain the gem in your hand was fake?"

"In your original thoughts, Bourbon, if Kaitou Kid hadn't appeared, we would have undoubtedly considered the fake gem to be the real one, correct?"

---

"Speak with evidence, Gin," Amuro replied, calm but firm.

"If a single failed mission warrants being treated like a traitor and subjected to such interrogations, then I think most of the people here would also qualify as traitors."

"The Tsukino brothers deceived Kaitou Kid and everyone present at the scene."

"The replica was intentionally designed to be almost indistinguishable from the Scarlet Heart."

"I'm afraid no one could tell it was a fake—neither professional appraisers nor even Kaitou Kid himself."

---

"Moreover, when Vodka called me, the transmission broadcast we heard was from Kaitou Kid."

"If exposing the fake gem as fake benefited Kaitou Kid, then labeling it as real wouldn't serve his interests either."

"That's why I didn't doubt the authenticity of the final transmission."

Toru Amuro acted as if he were merely an uninvolved observer, recounting the events at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center.

Everything he said was true.

The only difference was that Amuro didn't disclose the fact that he had already determined the gem was fake.

This detail had been deduced by "Sera Masumi" and later shared with Conan.

---

As such, only two detectives knew about this matter.

There was no way those two would leak the secret, so Amuro was confident he could throw Gin off his trail.

Gin hesitated as he stared at Amuro's composed and determined expression.

Though Gin had always suspected Amuro, he had never been able to find solid evidence against him.

Gin didn't need an investigation to know one thing:

With Toru Amuro's intellect, he wouldn't be stupid enough to fabricate facts.

---

Gin's moment of hesitation told Amuro that, for now, Gin wouldn't act against him.

Amuro pressed further:

"Could you please take this gun off my head?"

"If the trigger is pulled, Gin, you won't be able to explain it to Rum, will you?"

---

"Sorry, I can't," Gin said, catching Amuro off guard.

"If you fail to fulfill Rum's orders, you must provide an explanation."

"Bourbon, make a choice."

"Was this mission's failure due to your incompetence?"

"Or was it because you're a traitor?"

Gin's icy voice cut through the tense atmosphere.

---

Meanwhile, at Kuroba Kaito's residence:

Kaito had taken out the medical kit from his home to administer first aid to the wounds caused by the bomb.

"I can't let Aoko find out about this. If she does, my identity will be exposed immediately."

---

Kaito thought to himself as he picked up a small bottle of medicine and began treating his injuries.

He then grabbed a roll of bandages, using his teeth to wrap them tightly around his arm and shoulder.

The searing pain brought a bitter smile to his face.

---

At the same time, Kaito silently cursed the man who had forced him into this situation: Tsukino Takashi.

Thinking of Tsukino Takashi naturally reminded Kaito of the Shadow's Heart gem, which he had carefully preserved.

'Akako said earlier that my mission would succeed this time.'

'I originally thought it would rely on Anko's magic, but surprisingly, it depended on Akikawa Kyousuke.'

---

Kaito thought of the artist, whose temperament in the monitoring room had been entirely different from his usual dull demeanor.

He couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.

The man had seen through his disguise in broad daylight.

It wasn't until he encountered Akikawa Kyousuke in the monitoring room that Kaito realized the "vase-like" artist had a sharp mind hidden beneath his mask.

---

The reason Kaito dared to stay at the scene, even as the bomb repeatedly thwarted and injured him, wasn't just his persistence in obtaining the gem.

More importantly, it came from his faith in Koizumi Akako's prophecy.

---

Koizumi Akako's predictions never failed—this was a conclusion Kaito had reached after spending so much time with the witch.

Because of this prophecy, Kaito believed he would ultimately succeed and obtain the Shadow's Heart.

This confidence was what drove him to return to the scene, again and again.

---

Under the unbearable pain, time seemed to slow down.

When Kaito finally finished tying the bandage, he suddenly heard his doorbell ring.

---

Kaito initially thought it was Nakamori Aoko.

But after looking through the peephole, his face immediately showed a dumbfounded expression.

He quickly put on a T-shirt and opened the door.

---

"Why are you here?"

Kaito asked helplessly, staring at the crimson-haired girl with eyes as red as blood standing outside his door.

"I came to celebrate Kuroba-kun's successful completion of the mission."

"By the way, my divination told me you were injured, Kuroba-kun."

Koizumi Akako said as she held up a bag of food she had bought from a convenience store, smiling brightly at Kaito.
