Grove 52 of Sabaody Archipelago.

...

Pew! Pew! Pew!

Golden laser beams scorched the clearing, leaving a trail of smoking craters.

"Hahahaha! Another one bites the dust!" Eustass Kid, roared with laughter as he slammed his metal arm into a Pacifista, sending the large, bear-like cyborg crashing to the ground.

His triumph was short-lived, however, as the downed Pacifista, a mere copy of the real thing, began to stir.

Its palm glowed, charging another laser blast.

Shhhck!

Just in time, Trafalgar Law, activated his Ope Ope no Mi, creating a spherical operating room around the Pacifista. With a swift "Gamma Knife," he severed the cyborg's internal circuitry.

"Damn, meddling…" Kid grumbled. Three Pacifistas now lay in a heap at his and Law's feet. He had spent the last three years honing his skills in the first half of the Grand Line, mastering both Armament and Observation Haki, and his strength had grown considerably.

After driving back Sentomaru and escaping, they had been relentlessly pursued by these Pacifistas. Defeating three in a row had taken its toll, even Law was impressed.

Kid had practically been brawling with the cyborgs head-on, leaving Law to pick off the weakened machines from the sidelines.

"Kid, did you really think these were Warlords?" Law asked, his voice laced with amusement. Kid narrowed his eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"Let's get out of here. I'll explain later. I have a feeling things are about to get messy on Sabaody."

Thump. As if on cue, another Bartholomew Kuma plummeted from the sky, the battle resuming once more.

"Damn it! How many of these Tyrant Kumas are there?!" Kid roared in frustration.

Even though he could defeat them, his stamina was finite. Three consecutive battles had left him drained.

"Ahhh! We're gonna die! Why are these Tyrant Kumas after us?!" Bepo, the polar bear navigator of the Heart Pirates, with a paltry 500 berry bounty, cried, running in circles.

"Mass-produced cyborgs… What is the World Government planning with these weapons?" Law mused, his brow furrowed in thought.

"Incoming!" Killer, Kid's right-hand man, his masked face framed by wild, Super Saiyan 3-esque hair, warned.

The fourth Pacifista raised its hands, its mouth opening wide, three laser beams charging, aimed directly at the three Supernovas. Suddenly, a deafening BOOM shook Grove 52, the ground trembling violently.

Hummm.

A ripple spread through the air, as if space itself had been distorted, like a stone tossed into a still pond. A massive chasm, thousands of meters long, tore through the earth, cleaving a giant Yarukiman Mangrove tree in two. The Pacifista's laser attack abruptly ceased, its massive metal body exploding outwards, scattering debris in all directions.

The sudden and unexpected event stunned the two Supernova crews. However, instead of relief, a sense of foreboding washed over them. They instinctively knew something far more dangerous than Pacifistas or Tyrant Kumas lurked nearby. A heavy silence blanketed the clearing.

A single sword strike had split the entire grove in two.

The pirates stared in abject terror, their faces pale with shock, as if they had seen a ghost. "A single attack…"

"No… no way!"

"Captain Kid…" The Kid Pirates stood frozen, their bodies rigid with fear, unable to even muster the courage to flee.

"Waaaaah!"

Bepo, was petrified, his entire being locked in a state of shock. With a terrified shriek, he fainted, whether genuine or feigned, no one could tell.

The other members of the Heart Pirates felt a chill run down their spines, their foreheads slick with cold sweat. It was like encountering a ghost in the middle of the night. No one could speak.

"Hey, Supernova Rookies. What are you looking at?" A voice suddenly called out from behind them, sending shivers down their spines. They whirled around, their bodies tense.

There, sitting calmly on a pile of rubble, was Ian. Kid, Law, and their crews tensed, their muscles coiled tight. "Who… who are you?" Kid demanded.

"Let me test your strength!"

Killer, vanished in a blur, reappearing behind Ian. His twin scythes, the Punisher, flashed towards Ian's neck.

"..."

Clang!

A sharp, metallic ring echoed through the air.

"If this were the Dragon Ball universe, that golden hair might give me pause. You've certainly improved over the past two years. Stronger than in the original story. You've even learned Armament Haki."

"Too bad." Ian smiled, his grip tightening on Killer's scythes.

Crack!

Killer's eyes widened as he heard the sickening crunch of metal. Before he could react, Ian had snapped his weapons in two and seized him by the face, flinging him like a rag doll.

BOOM!

Killer crashed into the ground dozens of meters away, a massive crater forming around him. Blood splattered against his mask as he lay unconscious. The Kid Pirates erupted in fury. "Bastard! You'll pay for that!"

"Damn! Take This!!"

Kid raised his hand, drawing countless scraps of metal towards him with his magnetic powers. The debris coalesced, forming a massive metal arm, coated in Armament Haki, which he slammed down towards Ian.

Ian's expression remained unchanged as he effortlessly caught Kid's attack. Before Kid could register his surprise, flames erupted, engulfing the metal arm.

The intense heat melted the metal, molten slag dripping to the ground. Golden lightning crackled beneath the flames, traveling along the metal arm and into Kid's body, charring his flesh.

Kid coughed, spitting out a plume of black smoke as he collapsed to his knees, his body smoking. Two Supernovas, each with bounties exceeding 100 million, had been defeated in the blink of an eye.

The remaining pirates watched in stunned silence, even Kid's loyal crewmates backing away, their courage shattered. Law took a deep breath, struggling to suppress his fear.

"…"

"Trafalgar Law, with a 200 million berry bounty…" Ian turned to Law, his voice calm and measured.

Law had remained silent since Ian's arrival, his thoughts hidden behind an impassive mask.

Ian didn't seem to mind Law's silence, continuing as if speaking to himself. "Hmm, the Ope Ope no Mi… you've mastered it quite well."

At Ian's words, Law finally spoke. "Are you… after the Immortality Operation, Black Winged Devil?"

"The Immortality Operation…" Some of the pirates exchanged glances, their interest piqued. But to their astonishment, Ian simply shook his head.

"No. I have no need for it."

His casual dismissal of such a powerful ability stunned everyone, even Law. Ian's gaze was calm, his tone sincere.

In Ian's eyes, the Immortality Operation, like all Devil Fruit powers, had its limitations. It could be negated by seawater, or by Seastone.

Relying on it for immortality was stupid. What if Devil Fruit powers suddenly ceased to exist?

Ian trusted only in his own strength. If he desired a Devil Fruit, whether it was the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, the Dark-Dark Fruit. he could obtain it.

Besides, his [Ulquiorra Fusion] rate was already at 85%, surpassing even the Original Espada's Power.

Shinigami and Hollows had lifespans measured in millennia. He wasn't even sure how long he would live. Perhaps, one day, he too would succumb to the boredom of immortality, embarking on a suicidal quest like Kaido.

"You're thinking… that you owe me a favor, aren't you?" Ian addressed Law directly. "I've never met Rosinante, but I've heard stories about him. The only time he lied to Sengoku, it cost him his life. He did it for you. Rosinante, worked undercover within the Donquixote Family to stop his brother's atrocities. For you, he exposed himself, betrayed the Marines… that's quite a sacrifice."

Law clenched his fists, his fingernails digging into his palms, his expression unreadable. Ian continued, "After that, you obtained the Ope Ope no Mi and dedicated your life to avenging Rosinante. Then, one day, you suddenly received news… that the Donquixote Family had been annihilated."

Law took a deep breath, his expression calming. "Yes, just as you said. I even questioned my purpose in life after Doflamingo was gone. If I truly wanted to rely on someone else, I would have joined the Marines, following in Corazon's footsteps. But in the end, I realized he wouldn't have wanted that, so I gave up on the idea."

Ian nodded. "But there's no direct connection between those two events. I didn't destroy Doflamingo for you or for Rosinante. We had a score to settle. I Just.. believed he deserved to die."

"His life was tragic, yes, but he inflicted far greater tragedy on countless others. He had his revenge, yet he continued to enslave and exploit people. So don't talk about owing me anything."

"Besides, I doubt you could offer me anything of value, even if you wanted to." Ian's words hung in the air, revealing a secret from years past. No one interrupted, or rather, no one dared to.

"Rosinante may be gone," Ian continued, his voice soft, "but his work isn't finished. Taking down the Donquixote Family was only part of it. He was a righteous Marine who valued peace. If I hadn't left the Marines, perhaps I could have helped you."

"But you can help yourself. You're different from other pirates. You haven't committed any truly heinous crimes… the Marines would likely value your skills. You could turn yourself in." Ian's words caused a ripple of shock and murmurs among the pirates.

"…"

No one knew what Law was thinking at that moment.

Unlike the original story, Law's quest for revenge against Doflamingo had been cut short before it even began.

"Was that… Black Winged Devil? The one who swept through the New World, defeating two Yonko?" Back on Grove 52, after Ian had departed, Kid and the Heart Pirates erupted in excited chatter.

"Captain, was that really Black Winged Devil?" Bepo asked, striking a one-legged pose.

"Yes," Law confirmed.

"He must have been the one fighting Admiral Kizaru earlier!" Law added. Bepo promptly collapsed, playing dead.

"Bepo, you idiot! Playing dead only works on bears, not Ian!"

"Yeah, and that terrifying monster is gone now!" Penguin and Shachi of the Heart Pirates reminded him. "Oh, is that so?"

"Maybe next time I'll try playing cute…" Bepo mumbled, scratching his head.

"Cough… hack… ugh…"

Kid, still kneeling on the ground, his body charred black, coughed violently, spitting out blood tinged with golden sparks. His crew rushed to his side.

"Captain Kid, are you alright?!"

Kid waved them off, signaling that he was fine.

"That's why I told you not to be so careless." Law said. Kid glared at him but remained silent, his head bowed.

His blackened face hid his expression, but his mind was in turmoil. He had considered himself the strongest Supernova, planning to challenge the Yonko in the New World.

Three years ago, his encounters with Ace and Ian had taught him caution, prompting him to remain in Paradise to train. Now, even before entering the New World, he had mastered both Armament and Observation Haki.

He had believed he could take down a Yonko.

But now, Ian's appearance had shattered his confidence and pride. But Against The Strongest, they were powerless, the gap in strength a yawning chasm of despair.

They were worlds apart.
