Chapter 223: The Two People Kahn Hates The Most
"**ROOM - Transfer!**"
The moment her older sister Hancock appeared, Monet wasted no time activating her surgical ability. Her *ROOM* field enveloped the battlefield, selectively teleporting the weaker Red-Hair Pirates out of position. How did she determine who was weak? Simple: anyone who couldn't resist the transfer was deemed unworthy of staying.
In an instant, dozens of the Red-Hair Pirates' crew vanished from their ranks, leaving a noticeable gap in Shanks' forces.
**Bang! Bang! Bang!**
Realizing the situation, Yasopp and Benn Beckman immediately fired upon the enemy. Each bullet was charged with powerful Armament Haki, packing the destructive force of small cannon shells. However, no matter how precise or fast their attacks, they couldn't prevent their weaker comrades from being taken away.
Suddenly, a girl with a mischievous smile darted out from behind Hancock and Monet. With both hands raised, she called out, "**Barrier Wall!**"
A transparent barrier materialized in the air, intercepting the bullets mid-flight. **Boom! Boom!** The bullets exploded against the barrier, sending shockwaves rippling across the battlefield. Yet, despite the sheer force, the barrier remained unshaken.
**Whoosh—**
Just as the Perfect Work and Seraphim series closed in to eliminate the teleported Red-Hair Pirates, Shanks, foreseeing the danger through his advanced Observation Haki, moved. He transformed into a ghostly blur, weaving through the dust clouds stirred up by Yasopp and Benn Beckman's gunfire. His aim was to reach his stranded crew in time.
**Swish—**
But Hancock intercepted him. In a flash of purple lightning, she appeared before him, her long, alabaster leg crackling with destructive energy as she launched a powerful kick toward Shanks.
With no choice but to abandon his rescue attempt, Shanks quickly wrapped Gryphon in Armament Haki, bracing to counter her strike.
**Boom!!!**
Their clash unleashed a thunderous explosion, sending shockwaves cascading across the battlefield. Shanks' face hardened as he felt the full impact of Hancock's attack. He immediately increased the output of his Haki, forcing her to back off. In a commanding voice, he called out toward the dust-covered maid fighters, "**Night Field…**"
On Monet's side, a swirling black mist began to rise—a mist distinct from the powers of Carina's Dark-Dark Fruit. The dark fog expanded, forming an ominous sphere that enclosed the Red-Hair Pirates who had been transferred over.
In the next moment, as Shanks and Benn Beckman focused their Observation Haki on the dark sphere, they sensed countless presences—each one emitting the faint sound of blades slashing through the air, the unmistakable clash of steel entering flesh reverberating within the pitch-black void.
If one had the gift of night vision or the power of clairvoyance, one would see within the dark sphere a scene of carnage. Sonia transformed into a vampire, moved at an unfathomable speed, creating what seemed like countless clones, each as solid and deadly as the original. Her copies lunged at the teleported Red-Hair Pirates, shredding them apart with razor-sharp claws, siphoning their life force in a horrific display. In mere moments, Sonia had eradicated the weakest third of the Red-Hair Pirates.
**Boom!**
As the lives of his crew slipped away, a surge of fury erupted from Shanks, his Conqueror's Haki spreading across the floating island like an inferno, crackling with power and shaking the very air. Lowering his head, he muttered bitterly, "I'm sorry… I've failed you."
"Sorry?" Hancock sneered. "You attacked the Kingdom of Dressrosa unprovoked, shattering the island's reputation for absolute safety. Now, you'll pay with your life."
Unaware of the bonds between Luffy, Shanks, and Usopp's father, Yasopp, Hancock saw only a group of pirates bent on destruction. To her, the Red-Hair Pirates were troublemakers needing to be stamped out.
"For no reason?" Shanks echoed, his remorse mingling with anger. He realized he had been reckless, charging in without first reaching out to the Cross Family or explaining his connection to the Straw Hat Pirates.
Had he done so, perhaps he could have secured Luffy's and Yasopp's son's safety through negotiation rather than force. But he had underestimated both the importance of Dressrosa to Kahn and the latent strength of the Cross Family.
He was furious at the cold ruthlessness of the Cross Family. He had merely stunned the citizens of Dressrosa without hurting anyone, yet they had already slain his comrades without hesitation or mercy.
If Kahn had been privy to Shanks' thoughts, he would've been unimpressed. In his view, Shanks' moral double standard was as blatant as ever.
While Shanks, Roger, and Luffy believed in nonchalance, laughing off slights as long as no one was hurt, Kahn adhered to an entirely different philosophy. In his eyes, anyone who dared strike the Cross Family should be prepared to pay in blood.
And Kahn harboured a deep disdain for those he saw as hypocrites in the pirate world—especially Shanks and Garp, the kings of double standards.
Hancock, sensing Shanks' growing anger, mocked, "Enough talk! If you want revenge, come and kill us."
But her taunt was cut short by a sudden realization. Shanks' overwhelming Conqueror's Haki had somehow disrupted her Future Sight, an uncanny power that stopped her from foreseeing his moves. This rare skill, known as **"Knowledge Killing,"** was Shanks' ace—his mastery of Conqueror's Haki allowed him to suppress others' Observation Haki to the point of blocking Future Sight, letting him perceive his opponent's future without them being able to do the same. It was a devastating ability, countered only by another with the same skill or those with an innate power like the "Voice of All Things."
Recognizing her disadvantage, Hancock retreated, teleporting with a flash of lightning to reposition herself. Concentrating her strength, she transformed her electric field into a purple longbow.
Drawing back the bowstring, she summoned arrows of violet lightning, each crackling with deadly energy. With a steady aim, she unleashed her attack, calling forth the move Kahn had once perfected for her:
**"Arrow of Indra!"**
The electrified bolts shot toward the Red-Hair Pirates with devastating force, a merciless barrage from the Cross Family's formidable general.
