Chapter 5: Beast
"Young Master, don't be foolish. The Zhuo family still needs you! You can't just disappear like this! Young Master, can you even understand what I'm saying?"
The middle-aged man was practically losing his mind with worry. If something really happened, there would be countless problems to solve! He couldn't let the Young Master end up like this!
"Let go of me, you bastard. If it weren't for my weak body, I would've chopped you down by now!"
Zhuo Luo's expression became furious. He truly couldn't understand what the man was saying. And what was with a grown man crying like this? Did he really think Zhuo Luo was some kind of unreliable person? Seriously, how could a man act like this over such a trivial matter?
"Young Master, what exactly are you saying? I really can't understand! Let's go home. The master will surely have a solution."
The middle-aged man finally remembered his task: to take Zhuo Luo home! How could he have forgotten such an important matter? He hoisted Zhuo Luo onto his back.
However, the moment he stood up, he sensed something was off. That's when he noticed the broken axe nearby. It wasn't cut but shattered by a powerful inner force. He also spotted a distinct mark left by sword energy—a feat that only those who practiced energy cultivation could achieve.
What's more shocking, he saw not one but two opposing streaks of sword energy. This meant it was the Young Master who had unleashed it!
"How… how is this possible? Someone who hasn't cultivated energy can actually unleash sword energy? This is too strange! Could it really have been the Young Master?"
The middle-aged man felt bewildered. Could it be that the Young Master had awakened? But no, he was certain this person had no energy cultivation. How could someone like that execute such a move imbued with sword energy? And the Young Master wasn't even known for being diligent—how could he suddenly wield such power?
"I'll report this to the master once we're back. Maybe he'll have some insight. For now, I really don't know if the Young Master is hiding some kind of secret. He disappeared for a month—what on earth did he learn during that time?"
The middle-aged man decided to stop dwelling on it and prioritized returning home. The family head, a level-four swordsman, might be able to shed some light on the matter. After all, in moments of great danger, living beings often unleash extraordinary power—a force capable of miracles.
Carrying Zhuo Luo, the middle-aged man returned to the Zhuo family estate. Waiting outside were several people, led by a middle-aged man who, though plain-looking, radiated an aura far more powerful than the man carrying Zhuo Luo.
Zhuo Luo paid him little attention. He knew that, at his peak, this man wouldn't have been a match for him. But in his current weakened state, he could only focus on survival and strengthening this body. He couldn't afford to remain weak, not when he still had plans to reach the Grand Line and reunite with his companions. Dying here was not an option.
"Zhuo Yuan, did you encounter any problems on the way?"
The leader of the group walked over, and Zhuo Luo got a better look at him. Though his face was ordinary, something about him seemed unusual. Zhuo Luo also noticed the sword at the man's waist—it appeared to be of fine quality. However, Zhuo Luo didn't care. He was a swordsman who wielded blades, not double-edged, pointed weapons like that.
"No, but something strange happened. I need to report it to you—it's truly peculiar."
Zhuo Yuan spoke. Indeed, the situation was bizarre. However, it wasn't something that could be casually shared. Walls have ears, after all. Zhuo Yuan believed his discovery could overturn many established notions, and it involved their Young Master. Someone with such potential needed to be nurtured.
"Is Luo'er unharmed?"
The leader was also aware that something seemed off. Could this previously unremarkable Zhuo Luo truly possess exceptional qualities? It seemed inconceivable. But Zhuo Yuan wasn't one to lie, so perhaps there was more to the Young Master than met the eye.
"Just a dislocated arm. It shouldn't be a big issue. However, the real problem isn't that. Let's talk inside—this isn't the right place for such a discussion."
Zhuo Yuan was cautious. The continent was far from peaceful, with wars frequently breaking out. Careless talk could bring disaster. Besides, there was still someone he needed to deal with. If the swordsman wasn't eliminated, there was a risk of leaks. Such matters couldn't be allowed to spread!
After handing Zhuo Luo over to the Zhuo family head, Zhuo Yuan went to deal with the swordsman. Not long ago, an outsider had taken someone with a sword soul from them. If another person were taken, it would be a fatal blow to the Zhuo family.
Many families were already on the brink of collapse. Zhuo Yuan didn't want the Zhuo family to suffer the same fate. Although he wasn't a blood relative, they had treated him as one of their own. He owed them a great debt.
"Be careful. Clean up thoroughly. We no longer enjoy the freedoms we once had," the family head warned.
This was their shame. Yet there was nothing they could do about it, which was utterly frustrating.
As Zhuo Yuan left, the Zhuo family head turned his attention to his child. At first glance, nothing seemed unusual about Zhuo Luo. So why had Zhuo Yuan said such things? It was puzzling.
But in the next moment, he noticed something odd—the child's gaze was completely different. What was once muddled and unfocused now burned with the intensity of a wild beast.
It was terrifying.
In that instant, he felt as though he was facing a beast.
