One Piece: Signing In as a Pirate Begins with Roger's Execution

Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Dual Facades

Karl and Sengoku were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't notice Rosinante and Law standing at the doorway for a full minute.

When they finally realized, both scratched their heads in unison, looking a little embarrassed.

If Rosinante hadn't shown up, the two might have continued chatting all day.

"Ahem, Rosinante, come over here. Let me take a look at you," Sengoku called out, gesturing for him to approach.

Rosinante eagerly stepped forward, only to be subjected to a thorough and rather heavy-handed inspection by Sengoku.

His rough touches often pressed against Rosinante's wounds, making him grimace in pain. Still, he didn't pull away.

Meanwhile, Law stood to the side, fuming as he stomped on Doflamingo's back, looking as though he wanted to kill him on the spot.

Despite being pinned, Doflamingo remained stoic. Even as Law vented his rage, he said nothing, merely closing his eyes, giving the illusion of being dead.

"This boy... Trafalgar D. Water Law, was it? The one you force-fed the Op-Op Fruit?" Sengoku asked, pointing at Law.

Rosinante nodded and began explaining his actions, detailing Law's background and identity. He had even registered Law as a Marine, though Law was currently unable to begin training. He needed to first focus on learning medicine and using the Op-Op Fruit to cure his amber lead poisoning.

Sengoku sighed heavily.

He sympathized with Law's tragic past, lamenting the greed of the nobles in Law's homeland, whose avarice had condemned the entire nation to ruin through amber lead disease.

Their downfall, a result of their own actions, left Sengoku at a loss for words.

"Very well. Law will be under your full responsibility. Until his disease is cured, you are exempt from active duty.

"That said, your own combat skills are severely lacking. After all this time, you still haven't mastered Haki. During this period, I'll have Zephyr train you properly."

Sengoku's tone carried a hint of disappointment.

Rosinante's laziness was well-known—worse than even Karl's or Borsalino's. Unlike others, he hadn't been trained by Zephyr but was raised and taught by Sengoku, whose busy schedule left little time for proper guidance.

This neglect had stunted Rosinante's growth. If Zephyr had been his instructor, he might not have suffered such a crushing defeat against Vergo.

"I promise, this time I won't slack off! I'll also supervise Law to ensure he studies diligently!" Rosinante declared, lifting Law onto his shoulders and playfully ruffling his face.

Law, annoyed, struggled to escape, but his efforts inadvertently aggravated Rosinante's wounds. Rosinante winced, clutching his chest as blood began seeping through his bandages.

Startled, Law quickly tried to stop the bleeding, fumbling with the bandages in a panic.

Karl and Sengoku watched the scene unfold with exasperated expressions.

"Rosinante, go rest in the infirmary. You're in no condition to do much right now," Sengoku ordered. "And Law, take care of him."

"Got it!" Law replied loudly, supporting Rosinante as they left the room.

Once they were gone, Karl turned his attention back to the immobilized Doflamingo.

"Grandpa Sengoku, what should we do with this guy?" Karl asked, his gaze hardening.

Sengoku stroked his beard thoughtfully before speaking.

"Take him for treatment first. In a few days, I'll personally escort him to meet the Five Elders. They're holding some kind of meeting right now, so it'll have to wait."

Karl nodded and hoisted Doflamingo over his shoulder. Just as he was about to leave, Sengoku's Den Den Mushi rang.

Answering it, Sengoku's expression shifted, and he gestured for Karl to stay.

Karl dropped Doflamingo onto the floor with a thud, eliciting a grunt of pain from the latter.

"Understood. I'll send someone to handle it immediately. And yes, Doflamingo has been captured. If convenient, I'll bring him to Mary Geoise in the next two days.

"Yes, of course. I'll head over tonight to ensure the Fisher Tiger matter is resolved properly. Please rest assured."

The conversation clearly revealed the caller's identity—only the Five Elders could command such deference from Sengoku.

After hanging up, Sengoku turned to Karl, his face weary.

"Karl, I need you for another task. Fisher Tiger, the Fish-Man who infiltrated Mary Geoise, has been located. According to reports, he's been spotted near Foolshout Island, seemingly searching for something. I want you to eliminate him."

"Grandpa Sengoku, are you sure you want me to handle this?" Karl asked, frowning. He punctuated his words by kicking Doflamingo unconscious, ensuring the man wouldn't overhear.

Sengoku closed the office door, his expression serious.

"There's no need for subterfuge between us. While Marines are bound to follow orders, I believe your words carry merit: the Navy and the world need reform for true peace.

"That's why I'm asking you to fake Fisher Tiger's death and secretly return him to Fish-Man Island. Queen Otohime is working toward reconciliation with humanity, and I don't want this incident to jeopardize those efforts. Deliver him to her in secret."

Karl's eyes widened in shock.

"Grandpa Sengoku, that's... quite an audacious plan."

This deviation from the Sengoku Karl knew in the original story left him stunned. But he could see why. In this living, breathing world, people were more nuanced than in a comic.

The Sengoku he grew up with had been influenced by many of Karl's childhood musings, words that seemed to have stuck.

"If you're unwilling, I can assign someone else to execute Fisher Tiger. After all, he's just a Fish-Man. Reforming the world doesn't hinge on him," Sengoku said, watching Karl closely.

Hearing this, Karl frowned in displeasure.
