Chapter 33: Rebuilding The Cabin
By noon, Kaizen found a towering tree with high-quality wood that he liked very much.
"But how should I cut it down and take it back? Even if a hundred people came, they couldn't move this big thing!"
Enel bit his finger, looking up at the towering trees stretching into the distance, his voice filled with despair.
"No, no, no, I am enough," Kaizen said confidently, wagging his finger.
Enel looked at him skeptically. "This is much bigger than the beast earlier. It'll crush you."
"Tch, just watch!" Kaizen said, waving him back. "Stand clear and watch me work."
Enel obediently took a few steps back.
Kaizen clenched his fists, took a deep breath, and then punched out.
The fist hit the tree steadily, but at first, nothing happened.
"Eh! How embarrassing!" Enel couldn't help but stick out his tongue.
However, in the next second, there was a crack, and the entire tree slowly fell.
Enel's mouth dropped open in shock.
The towering tree fell neatly backward, causing a huge commotion in the forest. Birds and beasts flew and fled.
Even the residents in the town outside the forest heard the noise and came out, thinking it was an earthquake.
"Hahahaha! Maybe that was a bit much."
Kaizen looked at the fallen tree. The path it made allowed sunlight to shine through, creating a clear trail.
"Wow! How did you do that?" Enel was astonished, unable to close his mouth.
"Whatever you believe, you can achieve," Kaizen said easily.
In the end, Kaizen carried the tree alone back to town, while Enel rode on top, smiling broadly.
As Kaizen swaggered through the market with the massive tree, everyone in town was stunned.
"This man is a monster!"
"There are actually humans this strong. We really overestimated ourselves trying to challenge him."
"We're lucky he didn't hurt us."
"Don't be too happy yet. Maybe one day he'll decide to cause trouble, and we'll all suffer."
"I really hope this monster leaves soon."
The villagers hid in their homes, watching Kaizen from the windows, discussing him and his actions.
"Okay, we're here. Get down!" Kaizen reminded Enel when they reached the ruins of the old house.
Enel crawled down from the tree cautiously, like a caterpillar.
Kaizen set the tree down without breaking a sweat.
"We don't have any tools to cut wood."
Enel and Kaizen squatted in front of the tree, staring at each other.
"I'll be right back." Kaizen said, getting up and walking away.
After a while, he returned with a wooden tool in his hand.
"What are you going to do with that?" Enel asked, incredulous.
"I'm cutting wood," Kaizen said matter-of-factly.
"If you cut wood with wood, will the wood agree?" Enel asked skeptically.
"It's not about the wood."
Kaizen infused the wooden tool with Armament Haki, then assumed a slashing stance.
"Ha!"
With a powerful roar, he cut the tree into several pieces.
It was extremely fast and precise, like slicing through tofu.
"Wow!" Enel was excited by the smooth surface of the wood.
"Haha! It's simple!" Kaizen said proudly.
To build a small cabin, only half the tree was needed. Kaizen planned to sell the remaining wood in town to buy nails.
Kaizen carried the extra wood and knocked on doors, but no one answered. Even when they did, they closed the door quickly upon seeing him.
"These people are really missing out! This is fine wood, and I'm offering it cheap."
Kaizen scratched his head. He had gone through the whole street without selling a single piece.
"Hey! I'll buy your wood."
Just as Kaizen was about to turn back, a friendly voice called out.
Kaizen turned and saw a big man with a kind face.
"I heard you saved my son today?" The big man handed money to Kaizen and took the wood.
"So that kid is yours. He can really cry."
Kaizen only wanted to sell the wood and didn't care for thanks.
"I feel I should thank you...thank you." The man said hesitantly.
"Forget it, I didn't do it for thanks. I just like competing with wild beasts."
Kaizen wasn't interested in reluctant gratitude. He'd rather be misunderstood than receive charity-like thanks.
"This wood is top-grade, perfect for making furniture."
After walking a few steps, Kaizen turned back to offer polite advice.
After Kaizen left, the man felt ashamed. If he wanted to thank someone, why was he so timid?
If Kaizen were really a pirate and so powerful, why be so kind? He could be more arrogant. Something felt off.
The man stood there, confused, holding the wood.
Are there really good pirates in the world?
Impossible, absolutely impossible!
The man seemed to ponder a paradox, trying to deny it in his heart.
Kaizen took the money from the wood sale and went to the hardware store in town.
"Boss, bring me a pack of nails," Kaizen said upon entering.
"Okay..."
The shop owner replied, but upon seeing Kaizen, his expression changed.
"Ah! It's you. What do you want here?" The owner asked nervously.
"I said, I want to buy nails."
Kaizen looked at him intently.
"Nails? I don't have any."
The owner lied, eyes wide.
"What's in your hand?" Kaizen pointed at the bag of nails.
"These aren't for sale!" the owner said, putting them away.
"Why not?"
"My things aren't for sale if I say so."
"You think I can't pay? I have money." Kaizen put the Bailey on the counter.
"We don't sell to pirates here. Go somewhere else!" The owner was stubborn.
"If you don't sell, I'll call my pirate brothers to wreck your shop and feed you to sharks. It's fun."
Kaizen smiled slightly, like a ghost. Most would be terrified by his malicious grin and words.
"Fine, take it, just don't come back."
The owner, sweating, quickly handed over the nails.
Kaizen smiled, left the Bailey, picked up the nails, and said politely, "Thank you."
"Thank you, this pirate is too incompetent!" The owner muttered when Kaizen left.
