One Piece: Journey to the New Dawn

Chapter 35: Chapter 17:  Aftermath - I

Author's Note:

Hey everyone! First off, I owe you all an apology for the delay in posting. I've been caught up with a few things lately, but rest assured, I've been busy behind the scenes brainstorming some exciting new Devil Fruit ideas for the crew!

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be uploading new Auxiliary chapters featuring all three types of Devil Fruits—Zoan, Logia, and Paramecia. Each type will have its own dedicated chapter to explore its powers and potential, so you can really dive into how they shape the crew's adventures.

As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Whether you think the fruits I've chosen fit well, or if you have your own suggestions for new or different fruits, please feel free to share in the comments. I'm always open to new ideas and will do my best to incorporate the ones that work within the story!

Thanks so much for your patience, and I can't wait to share what's coming next!

P.S. Huge shoutout to @4senju for suggesting the idea of a Devil Fruit Logia for Nami (also Selina)! Based on that awesome idea, I decided to release the fruit a bit earlier than planned. If you think the powers work, or if you have any additional suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comments—I'd love to hear your feedback!

P.S.S. A big thank-you to @kurosama for the idea to change Selina's storyline to not losing her memories. I've made that adjustment, and I think it adds an interesting layer to the plot! Let me know what you all think in the comments. 😊

The morning sun is already on the horizon. While Wind Granma, moving towards the Goa Kingdom port to find a place to hide the ship from the kingdom guards, Dragon commands the revolutionaries. Ash and the girls, with the help of Dragon and the revolutionaries, have already saved the people of Grey Terminal and are now heading to bring back Selina discreetly.

Ash hopes that he is not too late to save Selina and hopes that she wouldn't encounter the Celestial Dragons, unlike what happened in canon.

Suddenly, Ash and the girls receive a distress signal from the bracelets, giving them an immediate sense that Selina's life is in danger. Immediately, Ash, Lucy, Uta, and Ace shout in unison, "Selina!"

Dragon, hearing their shout, seeing them panic asks them what happened. Ash says that Selina's life is in danger. Dragon asks how they know. Ace and Uta interjects, telling him, "They just have ways to know."

At that moment, the bracelet goes off again. Ace and Uta immediately urge Ash, "Ash, use the orb immediately!"

Ash slaps himself on the forehead. "How could I forget that?" he mutters. He quickly places a hand inside his pocket, discreetly activating his inventory and retrieving the Soul Bind Orb, making it appear as though he had taken it out from his pocket.

Without wasting a moment, he crushes the orb and vanishes, leaving Dragon, Ivankov, and the others who just witnessed him disappear in front of their eyes staring in surprise.

After witnessing this, Dragon asks the girls, "Where is Ash, and where did he disappear suddenly?"

Ace just tells him, "Old guy, not the time now. Can you please move the ship closer toward the explosion noise."

Uta interjects, "Ash will save Selina—we have to help him."

Lucy just looks toward the sea in panic, which is evident in her eyes, clenching her fists in anger and tension.

Meanwhile...

As soon as Ash crushed the orb, he was teleported into the water. Ash initially panicked, but his calm mind skill activated, and he noticed Selina drowning, her skin glowing a slight blue in color. Ash understood the Aegis Skin had activated, saving her from damage.

Ash swam towards her fast and caught her. He then swam up steadily, carrying her away from the wreckage of fish boat and away from the port and world government ship, so no one would notice them as fast as he could.

He saw Wind Granma coming towards them and waved at them, calling out. Lucy, who was checking the sea, saw Ash and yelled, "Guys, there's Ash!" pointing towards him. Ace and Uta saw him swimming, carrying an unconscious Selina. Ace yelled, "Old guy, we saw Ash! He's got Selina with him!"

Dragon ordered the ship to turn near them and took a small boat himself, accompanied by a couple of revolutionaries. They moved quickly towards Ash and Selina, rescuing them from the sea and bringing them back abord. On Dragon's order, Selina was immediately taken to the med bay.

{}

Ash, having dried himself off, walked with Lucy, Ace, and Uta to the med bay. The tension hung in the air; their faces etched with concern. Following them closely were Dragon and Ivankov, their presence a quiet comfort amidst the chaos.

Inside the med bay, the ship's doctor, stood over Selina. He looked up as Ash and the others entered, offering them a reassuring smile. "The sea water she drank has been removed. She's unconscious for now, but she should wake up in a couple of hours."

Despite the good news, Ace, Uta, and Lucy stayed by Selina's side, their worry not easing, though they knew the worst had passed.

Ash looked at the girls, his expression softening as he approached them. "I'll be outside, on the deck, with the others. You should get some rest here," he said, his voice calm but laced with the lingering tension of the moment. "Don't worry, Selina's safe now."

He hugged each of them in turn, holding them close, trying to reassure them with his presence. Lucy, her eyes already wet with tears, hugged back tightly, Ace and Uta following suit, their silent support speaking volumes. Lucy whispered, "For a second there I thought we lost her," through her tears, as Ash gently patted her back murmuring that Selina is fine now.

After a few moments, he pulled away, offering a warm smile before stepping toward the door. "I'll be outside on the deck," he repeated, voice steady, before leaving the med bay to join the others.

Once on the deck, Ash turned to Dragon with gratitude in his eyes. "Thank you, really. I don't know what we would've done without you."

Dragon, as always, remained calm and composed. "Don't worry about it," he said, his voice unwavering. "I would've helped, even if you hadn't asked." Although Dragon wanted to ask how he had disappeared, he decides to leave it for now, thinking he would reveal himself when the time comes, as it wasn't his secret to reveal.

Ash nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "So, what's next for you?"

Dragon glanced toward the horizon, a faraway look in his eyes. "First, I'll take you to the Mt. Colbo and leave you with your care taker. After that, I'll move the rescued people away from this island and find a better place for them to stay, somewhere safe."

Ash felt a weight lift from his chest, knowing they were in capable hands. He gave Dragon a sincere nod. "Thank you, again."

Just then, Ivankov twirled toward them, their usual dramatic flair adding a touch of levity to the moment. "No worries, cutie! It's our pleasure."

Ash chuckled, a nervous but light-hearted sound. "Thanks." It wasn't quite nervousness, more like a polite acknowledgment of their exuberance, and it helped ease the tension even further.

{}

A few hours later, Selina's eyelids fluttered open. The soft murmur of voices around her grew louder, and the warmth of the room seemed to comfort her as she slowly became aware of her surroundings.

"Selina, you woke up!" Ace, Lucy, and Uta exclaimed, their voices filled with relief and joy. The room was filled with the rush of emotions, as if the weight of the past hours had finally been lifted.

Hearing the shout, Ash immediately rushed toward the med bay, his heart racing with anticipation. He stopped just outside the door, taking a deep breath before entering.

Selina, still a bit disoriented from the haze of unconsciousness, blinked slowly as her gaze shifted to the people around her, their faces lighting up with hope.

Lucy immediately wrapped her arms around Selina, tears streaming down her face as she hugged her tightly. "Selina!" she cried, her voice trembling with relief. "You're awake!"

Selina, still groggy and confused, blinked up at Lucy, struggling to process her surroundings. "W-Where am I? What happened?" she asked weakly, her voice filled with confusion.

Ace, noticing her distress, stepped closer, gently entering her line of sight. "Selina, it's us," she said softly. "Ace, Lucy, and Uta. Do you remember what happened?"

Selina's eyes slowly moved over to the three of them. She uttered their names quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "Ace... Lucy... Uta..." As she saw them all, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her head. She winced and clutched her temples, groaning in discomfort.

The memories began to flood back in fragments, like pieces of a puzzle slowly falling into place. She remembered their shared moments—laughing together, drinking sake, becoming like sisters. She recalled Ash, his presence always there, and the terrifying moment when a Celestial Dragon had fired at her, sending her crashing into the sea. But then, there was someone, someone who had saved her...

The memories came rushing back, each one more vivid than the last.

Ash stood quietly, giving Selina the space she needed to gather her thoughts. His eyes were fixed on her, filled with patience and concern. He could feel the tension in the room, but he knew she needed time.

As the doctor, Ivankov, and Dragon entered the room, Selina slowly began to speak, her voice shaky but growing steadier with each word. "Ace, Lucy, Uta... you guys are fine?" she asked, her tone filled with concern. "I thought something might have happened to you..."

She hugged them tightly, tears welling up as the weight of the moment finally broke through. The three of them held her close, sharing in the emotional release, all four of them clinging to each other in a heartfelt embrace. For several minutes, they cried together, the fear and uncertainty melting away.

After a while, the doctor gently checked Selina over, nodding as he finished his examination. "She's fine now. Just needs to eat well and rest for the next few days," he informed them and left the med bay.

Selina, now feeling more grounded, turned her attention to Ash, her expression serious and longing. "Ash," she said softly, her voice full of gratitude. "Thank you for saving me. I remember seeing you when I fell into the sea. Without your help... I think I would've died by now."

Ash, sensing the gravity of the moment, couldn't help but lighten the mood. A playful grin crossed his face as he leaned in, teasing her gently. "Well, I did promise to protect my family," he said with a wink. "And I already told you that you're considered part of it." He chuckled before adding, "I can't let a cute princess like you go dying on me if I can help it."

Selina's face flushed a deep red at Ash's playful words. Ace, who is beside Selina after Ash's the teasing words, couldn't help but yell, "You pervert! Stop flirting already!"

Ash grinned, his usual cheeky attitude not fading. "You also look cute, Ace. Don't need to be jealous."

Ace turned bright red, stammering as she blushed. "Who's jealous of whom?! You pervert! Stop talking nonsense!"

Selina chuckled softly at the exchange, her laughter light and genuine. Uta, noticing the teasing, bonked Ash on the head, pouting as she did. "Is my cute, beautiful girlfriend jealous too?" Ash said, hugging Uta with a playful grin.

Uta blushed even more but pouted in response. Lucy, watching the scene unfold, suddenly spoke up. "Ash, what about me?" she asked, raising her hand, clearly expecting something.

Ash, momentarily surprised, quickly recovered and grinned. "You're also cute, Lucy."

Lucy chuckled, a soft laugh escaping her lips at the compliment. But then, Ash suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. He turned to see Dragon glaring at him, a stern look in his eyes.

Ash sweat bullets, immediately straightening up. "Ahem... Okay, Selina, how do you feel now?"

Selina nodded, her smile still there, though she seemed a little more exhausted. "I feel fine now... just tired and slight pain in my head, I guess."

Selina turned to the girls; her expression serious yet soft. "Now, start telling me everything that happened from the moment my father took me away, leaving you with Blue jam Pirates. I wanted to know everything. How did you guys even come here" looking around the cabin of the ship they were in.

Ace and Uta exchanged glances before taking turns recounting the events. They explained everything, from the day Selina was taken to the struggles they faced, their bond growing stronger through it all, and how they ultimately ended up here.

As they finished their story, Selina's eyes drifted to Lucy and Ash, who were chuckling softly at some private joke. She called out, "Ash!" Her voice snapped him to attention as he turned toward her.

Ash approached with his usual cheeky grin. "What is it, my princess? Are you going to give me a kiss?"

Selina's response was immediate—a sharp bonk on his head. "You idiot! Why do you have to act cool in the middle of a fight?"

Ash rubbed his head, pouting dramatically. "But Selinaaa..." he whined. Lucy, Uta and Ace giggles covering their mouth with their hands

She cut him off, her tone playful but firm. "And stop flirting, idiot." A pause followed, her voice softening. "Also, thanks for coming for them in time."

Ash's grin widened as he shrugged. "They're family, same as you Selina. We all are." He gestured toward himself and the girls. "Of course, I'll come running to save you guys if you're in trouble."

Hearing this, Lucy broke the moment with a bright call. "Group hug!" Everyone laughed as they leaned in, wrapping their arms around each other in a warm embrace, their laughter filling the room.

As the hug broke, Selina's gaze shifted, noticing for the first time that there were two other people in the med bay. Her eyes widened slightly as recognition dawned on her. "Old guy?" she said, looking directly at Dragon. "What are you doing here?"

Ash burst into laughter, his voice echoing through the room. "You've been staying on his ship this whole time, and you're just now noticing them?"

Selina's face turned crimson as she stammered, "S-Sorry, old guy," directing her apology toward Dragon.

Dragon, ever calm, simply waved it off. "No problem, kid. I understand."

Uta, her curiosity piqued, tilted her head and asked, "Selina, do you know him?"

Selina nodded, her expression shifting to something more serious. "Yeah, I do," she said, before beginning to recount everything from the moment her father had taken her away, detailing how she eventually met Dragon

Hearing Selina's story, Ash, Ace, and Uta couldn't hide their anger. Their expressions darkened, fists clenching as they thought about how cruel people could be. Ash's mind wandered briefly to the nobles in the Goa Kingdom, their selfishness and indifference fueling his frustration further.

Lucy, on the other hand, didn't fully grasp the details, but she could sense the gravity of the situation. For once, she remained quiet, her usual cheer subdued, understanding that it was serious.

Dragon and Ivankov listened intently, their expressions stoic. They didn't say a word, maintaining their calm presence as Selina finished her recount.

Selina's voice grew softer as she continued, "When I met him, I told him about what the royals were planning. He promised to help, and I also asked him to help you guys."

Lucy tilted her head slightly, confused. "Why?" she asked.

Selina took a deep breath before answering, "Because I thought you guys would be in danger. You got involved in this mess because of me."

Ash, seeing the guilt weighing on her, immediately shook his head. "That's not true," he said firmly. "Even if you hadn't met us, we still would've done the same thing. We would've gone ourselves and go to save the people, no matter what. So, stop blaming yourself."

Ace, Lucy, and Uta, in a show of solidarity, each pulled Selina into a tight hug, offering her their support. "We agree with Ash," Ace said, her voice warm. "Don't blame yourself."

Dragon and Ivankov exchanged a glance and smiled quietly, watching the bond between the group grow even stronger.

After a few moments of silence, Selina raised an eyebrow. "By the way, you didn't say your name, old guy."

Ash couldn't help himself and interrupted with a chuckle. "So, you didn't even know who he was and still asked for his help?"

Selina looked at him, confused. "Why? Who is he? Is he someone important?"

Ash shrugged, trying to suppress his amusement. "Oh, he's important, alright."

Selina, growing impatient, yelled, "Just tell me, idiot!"

Ace, Uta, and Lucy couldn't help but chuckle at Selina's frustration.

Ash, with a mischievous grin, raised his hand dramatically. "Fine, fine, taking all the fun away, alright. Ahem. Miss Selina, and girls, I present to you again—please meet the leader of the Revolutionaries... Shut up, Lucy, no questions... Ahem. The world's Worst Criminal, Monkey D. Dragon."

Dragon, who had been quietly watching the exchange, gave Ash a deadpan look, as if contemplating what to do with this kid. Ivankov, meanwhile, burst into laughter at the scene.

Selina's eyes widened in shock. "What? You're THE Dragon that the World Government has been warning about in the World Economy News Paper's (WENP)?!"

Ace, Uta, and Lucy looked between each other, confused. "Is he really that important?" they asked in unison.

Selina, rubbing her forehead in frustration, sighed. "You guys really don't know him?" When they shook their heads, she groaned. "Seriously, you've got to read the news sometimes, you idiots!"

Selina pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "Who did you guys think he was?"

Ace and Uta exchanged glances before shrugging. "Some merchant?" they said in unison.

Lucy, on the other hand, tilted her head. "A pirate?"

Selina slapped her forehead and groaned. "Unbelievable."

Lucy's face suddenly lit up as if she'd made a groundbreaking discovery. "Hey, old guy, you also have 'Monkey' in your name!"

Selina, Ace, and Uta shouted at the same time, "YOU'RE JUST NOTICING THAT?!"

Ash smirked, clearly enjoying the chaos. "That's because his father's name is Monkey D. Garp—the Marine Hero."

Selina, Ace, and Uta's eyes widened as the realization hit them. Slowly, they turned to Ash and pointed at both Dragon and Ash, stammering, "You mean...?"

Ash nodded, confirming their suspicions.

Lucy, still clueless, looked around. "What happened?"

Selina, Uta, and Ace turned to Lucy and yelled, "YOU IDIOT, IT MEANS HE IS YOUR DAD!"

Ivankov placed their hands on their hips and puffed up proudly. "Yes, your dad is the leader of the Revolutionaries, my esteemed compatriot who is going to lead our army to fight the World Government. That's how great he is!"

Then, as if hit by a sudden realization, Ivankov's eyes widened dramatically, their jaw dropping in a comical expression. They staggered back in shock, flailing their arms in exaggerated disbelief, much like their usual over-the-top reactions. "What?! You're Dragon-San's daughter?!" They whipped around to face Dragon. "Why didn't you say anything about this anytime?"

Dragon, as stoic as ever, replied simply, "Because the chance didn't come."

Ash burst into laughter, clutching his stomach as he watched their reactions. "Oh, this is priceless!" he managed to say between laughs, clearly enjoying the chaos around him.

Ace and Uta simultaneously bonked Ash on the head. "Stop laughing, idiot!" they scolded, though their own lips twitched with restrained grins.

Meanwhile, Lucy tilted her head in confusion. "Dad, huh!? What do you mean I have a dad?"

Uta crossed her arms and sighed. "Yes, Lucy, that's what Ash is saying. The old guy, Dragon, is your dad. Didn't your grandpa tell you anything about him?"

Lucy pouted, puffing her cheeks. "Nope."

Without hesitation, Lucy walked over to Dragon, her head tilted back as she looked up at him. "Are you really my dad?" she asked curiously.

Dragon gazed down at her and nodded. "Yes, I am."

Lucy blinked, her expression shifting quickly to excitement. "Are you strong?"

Dragon chuckled lightly. "Yes, I think I am."

Lucy's eyes lit up like stars. "Can you defeat Grandpa's Fist of Love?"

Dragon sweat dropped, his usually composed demeanor faltering. "Sorry, kid, I can't."

Lucy's shoulders slumped dramatically as her excitement vanished. "Grandpa's Fist of Love still hurts, even though I'm a rubber person," she muttered, rubbing her head as if recalling painful memories. "I thought I finally escaped after I became rubber person, but Ash says that Grandpa uses some mystery power to make me feel the pain."

Dragon's brow furrowed in surprise. "Wait, what do you mean rubber person?"

Lucy chuckled, stretching her arm playfully. "Yeah, I ate a Devil Fruit and became a rubber person."

Ash interjected with a smirk. "Lucy, it's not some mystery power your grandpa uses. It's called Haki."

Lucy tilted her head, confused. "That's what I said," she replied matter-of-factly.

Uta, Ace, and Selina all sighed, shaking their heads in unison at Lucy's usual antics.

Dragon and Ivankov exchanged surprised glances. "Wait, you kids also know about Haki?" Dragon asked, clearly intrigued.

The girls nodded enthusiastically, with Uta speaking up proudly. "Yes, Ash told us about it. We even unlocked our Observation Haki!"

Dragon's eyes widened in astonishment. "What?" he exclaimed, his usual composure momentarily slipping.

Ash shrugged casually. "I only know how to train for unlocking Observation Haki. I don't know how to unlock the other two types."

Dragon and Ivankov stood in silent contemplation, their expressions a mix of surprise and respect. Both thought the same thing—These kids have the potential to become something truly extraordinary.

Their conversation was interrupted when one of the revolutionaries entered the med bay, saluting briefly before speaking. "Commander Dragon, we've arrived near the shores of Mt. Colbo. The ship has been safely hidden."

Dragon nodded in acknowledgment, turning to Ash and the girls. "Kids, get ready. I'll come with you to ensure you're handed over to your caretaker. After that, I'll head back."

Ivankov twirled dramatically, grinning. "Let me come too, Dragon-san~! It sounds like fun!"

Ash stepped outside to wait, giving the girls some space as they helped Selina, who was still weak and tired, prepare for the short journey ahead.

Once they reached the deck, the group boarded a small boat to make their way to the shore near the dense forest at the base of the mountain. Meanwhile, the rest of the revolutionaries stayed on the ship, guarding the rescued people and ensuring their safety.

On their way through the forest, the group encountered several mountain beasts that threatened their path. Ash, Lucy, Ace, and Uta sprang into action, working together seamlessly to fend off the creatures. Their coordination was impeccable, each move complementing the others, as they swiftly took down the beasts. They even managed to drag along the defeated animals as part of their haul.

When they crossing a river, a group of crocodiles attempted to attack them. Once again, the four took charge, defeating the reptiles with ease while Selina stayed back with Dragon and Ivankov, as she was still recovering. Watching the battle unfold, Dragon and Ivankov were thoroughly impressed by the kids' teamwork and skills.

Dragon observed carefully, noting the techniques the kids used. While not at a level to take stronger people they are strong enough to handle an adult in this weak sea, he recognized the traces of Marine secret techniques embedded in their moves. It piqued his interest, and he silently commended their abilities, especially given their young age.

After a couple of hours trekking through the forest, the group finally reached Dadan's hideout. As soon as Lucy spotted the familiar house, her face lit up with excitement. Without a second thought, she bolted toward it, shouting joyfully, "We're back!" She blasted through the door with her usual lack of subtlety, startling everyone inside.

When Lucy entered the hideout, the scene that greeted her was entirely unexpected and confusing. In one corner of the room, the Blue jam Pirates were tied up, including Blue jam, who was still in her female form, glaring silently at the bandits. Meanwhile, Dadan, Dogra, Magra, and the rest of the bandits were bawling their eyes out, their faces stained with tears.

As soon as Dogra noticed Lucy, he rushed over and hugged her tightly, continuing to cry as he wailed, "Lucy... Selina is dead… Those World Government nobles killed her…" He broke into another round of uncontrollable sobbing.

Lucy blinked in confusion, unable to process what she'd just heard. "Wait, what?!" she exclaimed, turning toward the others, who were still in mourning.

Just then, Ash entered the room with Uta, both dragging their haul from the journey. Both stopped in their tracks, staring at the scene before them. Ash raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's going on here?"

Lucy pointed at the crying bandits, her expression a mixture of confusion and frustration, and said, "These idiots are saying Selina's dead."

Ash and Uta froze for a second, before simultaneously blurting out, "Huh?"

All the bandits, unable to contain their emotions, shouted in unison, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY 'HUH'? WE SAID SELINA HAD DIED!"

Some bandits started whispering among themselves, "Maybe they're just in shock from Selina's death."

Another one muttered, "Poor kids…"

And others began babbling incoherent nonsense, adding to the chaos.

Just then, Ace entered the house, carrying Selina on her back. Selina looked tired, her eyes droopy from exhaustion with dragon and Ivankov following them.

Ace yelled, "Why are you shouting like a bunch of idiots, and can you stop crying like bunch of babies?"

The bandits, including Dadan, froze as they turned toward the source of the voice. Their jaws collectively dropped, and their eyes went wide as they took in the sight of Selina.

Then, as if on cue, the entire group erupted in fear and panic, screaming, "AAAHH, IT'S SELINA'S GHOST, HANGING ON ACE'S BACK!'"
