Chapter 5: 5
"Luffy! We don't take kids out to sea, hahaha!"
Yasopp laughed.
"Who said I'm a kid? I'm a man now!"
Luffy shouted, standing on a stool.
"Really, a man? Here you go."
"Thanks."
Gurgle gurgle—
Luffy took the juice that Shanks handed him and drank it all in one gulp.
"Hahaha! He really is a kid."
Shanks slammed his hand on the table, laughing out loud. The pirates around him roared with laughter, some even tearing up from amusement.
"(Current) Smoker: I didn't expect Admiral Luffy to be this cute when he was little."
"(Current) Hina: Hina's heart can't take it. I want to go tease little Luffy Admiral!"
"(Current) Luffy: Ahem, please don't post these comments on the public screen."
"(Original) Garp: My grandson is so cute. I'm proud.jpg. It's all because of that Shanks that Luffy became a pirate! I can't forgive him! I'm angry.jpg."
"(Current) Shanks: I didn't do anything. Don't talk nonsense."
"(Original) Shanks: Why does my other-world self still have both arms?"
"(Current) Shanks: Isn't that normal? Why is yours missing? Who in this world could cut off our arms? How strong is that person?"
In the original world, Shanks was too embarrassed to admit that a mere Sea King had bitten his arm off.
The door suddenly opened.
In one world, it was kicked open.
In another, it was pushed open.
A figure walked in.
The observant ones immediately noticed something—the person who entered wasn't the same in both worlds.
"(Original) Sengoku: Wait a minute! Something's different! Could this person be the 'that person' they mentioned earlier?"
"(Current) Sengoku: Do we really need to overreact? One is handsome, the other is shabby. You can tell they're different people right away."
"(Original) Sengoku: Please don't interrupt when I'm speaking!"
Sengoku of the original world, as the highest authority in the Marines, was used to commanding respect. Even though the other Sengoku was essentially himself from another world, being spoken to so casually irritated him.
"(Current) Tsuru: Enough, Sengoku. Don't bother with that old bachelor."
"(Current) Sengoku: Tsuru, take it easy. Typing barrages takes a lot of energy. You should rest more—it's good for the baby."
Sengoku from the original world felt like he had taken a critical hit.
He had just been force-fed his own "dog food."
Oh my god. How disgusting. Was this really something he could say?
Even if it was another version of himself, Tsuru still existed in both worlds. Seeing their conversation made him incredibly embarrassed.
"(Original) Sengoku: Don't post everything on the public screen!!!"
Luffy from the original world suddenly reacted.
"That was a bandit! I remember!"
"(Current) Luffy: That was Political Commissar Robert. Yes, I will never forget that day!"
A deviation.
This was it—the exact moment when the two worlds split.
"(Original) Sengoku: This confirms it! The change really started here!"
The original world's Sengoku stopped flaunting his personal life and turned serious. He spoke privately to Garp.
"(Original) Sengoku: Who in the world could have set my grandson on the right path so early?"
Garp stared at the screen, his expression complicated.
Seeing Luffy as a Marine Admiral in another world made him incredibly proud. He had always wanted to train his grandson to be a Marine. But he had failed.
He turned to look at the Luffy standing nearby.
A Luffy who was willing to charge straight at him, even if it meant getting beaten down, just to save Ace.
Could he really hit his grandson with all his strength?
But if he let him go… would he still be a Marine?
If only—if only Luffy had grown into an excellent Marine like in the other world.
Then he wouldn't have to worry so much.
Who had guided him?
Because Garp had tried and failed, he knew how difficult it was.
The original world's video continued playing.
The bandit leader smashed a bottle over Shanks' head, spilling wine all over him.
After the bandits left, Luffy was furious. He demanded to know why Shanks didn't fight back.
In his anger, he ate Shanks' "Gomu Gomu no Mi."
Later, he went after the bandits himself, only to be kidnapped and taken out to sea.
In the end, Shanks saved him—but at the cost of his arm, which was bitten off by the Sea King.
Luffy cried.
Days later, Luffy stood at the docks, seeing Shanks off.
That was when he made his vow.
"Shanks, one day, I'll find a crew as strong as yours, find the greatest treasure in the world, and become the Pirate King!"
Shanks was stunned for a moment before grinning.
"Oh? You want to surpass us? Then I'll leave this hat with you. This is my most treasured hat. When you become the best pirate, bring it back to me."
The footage played quickly, but it told the whole story.
Now, everyone knew how Luffy had become a pirate.
"Find a crew as strong as the Four Emperors? Just for that sentence, I'm voting!"
Vote +1.
+1.
+1.
Whitebeard: "Luffy will become an excellent pirate in the future! Reminds me of an old friend."
Whitebeard vote +1.
Rayleigh: "This is the true pirate way! You carve out your own path!"
Pluton Rayleigh vote +1.
All members of the Red-Haired Pirates:
Fat Chef: "Haha, I remember little Luffy back then! Time flies!"
Yasopp: "Luffy was the cutest back then! What are we waiting for, brothers? Vote for him! We have to support the Luffy who made a promise with us!"
Red-Haired Pirates vote +600.
Even without watching the Marine Luffy's video, many had already cast their votes for Pirate Luffy.
"(Current) Hina: No way, Luffy Admiral. You got kidnapped and turned into a pirate? Your revolutionary willpower was too weak."
"(Current) Luffy: Ahem, kids are ignorant and easily misled! Weren't you the same when you were little?"
Admiral Luffy was ashamed.
If he hadn't met Political Commissar Robert, he might have really become a pirate.
That was terrifying to think about!
Being a pirate would've been too humiliating—it would have disgraced his entire family.
"(Current) Shanks: How did I lose my arm to that thing?"
Shanks from the present world couldn't believe what he was seeing.
He had lost his arm… to a Sea King? How embarrassing.
And even worse—he had personally guided the youngest Marine Admiral toward piracy in another world. That was just incredible.
Shanks valued face above all else. Everything was measured by whether or not he had face.
"(Original) Shanks: …"
Shanks from the original world was utterly silent, too embarrassed to respond.
"(Current) Garp: No wonder my grandson from another world became a pirate. It was you, Shanks! You corrupted him!"
As everyone was talking, the original world's video paused.
The present world's video began.
Everyone from the original world focused intently.
They already knew how Luffy had become a pirate.
Shanks had been his guide.
But how had Luffy become a Marine Admiral?
Who was the person that had entered instead of the bandit?
Why had this one moment changed everything?
What had they done?
