Chapter 4: Chapter 4 : Luffy, That Person Is Zoro
Nami had changed out of her work clothes, now wearing a short-sleeved top and a skirt.
She still looked young, but even so, she was already showing potential—the kind of girl who would definitely make a great wife in the future.
Carl just shrugged.
He never had much interest in beauty.
Ever since his parents died of illness in this world, life had often felt dull to him.
It wasn't until he met Luffy, that stubborn idiot, that things started feeling a little more lively again.
As for women, Carl found himself more drawn to Makino's type.
After all, it was rare to find someone who was gentle, kind, beautiful, mature, and could even make money to support a family.
Too bad Makino only saw him and Luffy as little brothers.
And as for Shanks, that bastard she kept thinking about… well, there was nothing more to say about that.
Regardless of Nami's looks, though, her navigation skills were seriously impressive.
Their trip to Shells Town should have taken half a day—but under Nami's command, they got there in nearly half the time.
Maybe the bigger ship helped, but Carl had to admit—this was all thanks to Nami.
And thanks to Luffy, they didn't cause any panic when they arrived.
Why?
Because Luffy got bored on the way and painted over the Jolly Roger on the sail.
The red heart was gone—
And in its place was a crooked drawing of a straw hat skull.
The result?
The most ridiculous pirate flag anyone had ever seen.
A true masterpiece of a "soul painter".
"Nami! You're amazing! You're definitely our navigator!" Luffy cheered.
Nami crossed her arms. "Nope. I hate pirates," she said flatly. "But… for the sake of treasure, I'll cooperate with you for now."
After spending time on the ship, she had learned enough about Luffy and Carl to relax a little.
If she hadn't, she wouldn't have dared to talk so casually.
Luffy just grinned. "Hee hee! Really? Alright, that works!"
And with that, he happily walked toward the town.
Koby quickly followed, eyes locked on the towering Marine base in the distance.
His heart was pounding with excitement.
He could finally join the Marines!
"Hey, Koby," Luffy said. "That pirate hunter, Zoro, you mentioned earlier—he's locked up at this Marine base, right?"
As soon as those words left his mouth—
The people around them froze.
Then, they immediately scattered in fear.
Their faces were filled with shock.
Koby gulped. "I-It seems like just saying Zoro's name is enough to scare people…"
But he still nodded. "Yeah, he was definitely captured by the Marines here."
"They say he's a total beast, a dangerous monster… Luckily, the Marines caught him.
The Marine Captain here is really amazing!
I think his name was… Morgan—"
The second that name was spoken—
The townspeople fled again.
As if they had just heard the name of a demon.
Luffy burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! The people here are really funny!"
Koby was completely confused.
He had just mentioned the Marine Captain, so why were the residents so afraid?
Were the Marines… the bad guys?
No—that couldn't be possible!
Could it?
Carl and Nami walked behind them.
Carl kept pressing the radar in his hand, but there was no response.
Nami glanced at him curiously.
"Mr. Carl, what are you doing?"
Carl replied casually, "Oh, I'm searching for a Devil Fruit. This is a Devil Fruit Radar—if there's one nearby, it'll detect it."
He smirked.
"A single Devil Fruit is worth 100 million Berries."
Devil Fruit?! 100 million Berries?!
Nami's mind blanked out for a second.
Her eyes instantly turned into money signs as she stared at the radar.
A tool that could sniff out Devil Fruits…?
That was basically a gold mine!
She leaned in close to Carl, pressing herself against him.
Her chest brushed against his arm as she spoke in the sweetest, most flattering voice she could manage.
"Mr. Carl… Can you lend me this radar?"
Carl glanced at the deep V-cut she had deliberately revealed.
Then he shook his head.
"Nami," he said calmly, "seduction won't work on me. You're not my type."
Nami's eye twitched.
If you're not interested, why did you look?!
She wanted to explode, but she held back.
Carl had never fought before, but he was Luffy's teacher.
And since Luffy was already this strong, that meant Carl had to be even stronger.
For now, she would endure.
But if she got the chance, she would definitely steal that radar!
"Mr. Carl! I'm heading to the Marine Base! Are you coming?" Luffy shouted.
Carl yawned.
"Sure, I'll check it out."
He followed Luffy—
But not before pulling out a camera from his bag.
He had specifically prepared it to take photos of his idiot crewmates on the ship.
A little entertainment for himself.
The One Piece world had cameras, after all.
If everything only depended on those Den Den Mushi cameras, then reporters would have a hard time making a living.
The four of them soon arrived at the Marine Base.
Luffy climbed up the high wall without hesitation.
Carl grabbed Nami and jumped up, landing on the wall.
All three of them peered down into the base.
Luffy's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Carl pointed toward the center of the square.
"Luffy, that guy over there is Zoro."
A man was tied to a wooden cross, his body slumped but still radiating an unbreakable will.
A green turban wrapped around his head.
…Wait.
Wasn't it supposed to be black?
Carl frowned.
The original descriptions he'd heard always said Zoro wore a black turban.
But looking at it now, it was clearly green.
Was everyone here colorblind?
…Or maybe—
Maybe Kuina didn't actually die.
Maybe she survived, and as time passed, Zoro's turban changed from black to green to honor her memory.
Yes.
That explanation makes perfect sense.
If Zoro could hear Carl's thoughts right now, he would probably unsheath his sword without hesitation.
Because that kind of nonsense reasoning was just too ridiculous to ignore.
Koby and Nami also looked over, their breaths hitching.
The man tied up in the square had his head lowered, but even in that position, he exuded the oppressive aura of a beast.
Koby and Nami were just ordinary people—naturally, they felt uneasy.
Luffy, however, didn't seem concerned.
"Oh! So that's the rumored pirate hunter, Roronoa Zoro?"
He tilted his head.
"Doesn't look that strong."
Carl sighed.
Rest in peace, Zoro.
In the original story, Luffy and Zoro were about equal in strength.
But now?
Now, Luffy could beat Zoro with one hand tied behind his back.
It was only natural that Luffy thought Zoro looked weak.
Carl shrugged.
"Luffy, for East Blue, his strength is actually pretty decent."
He smirked.
"You're just different because I trained you."
Luffy suddenly understood.
"Ohhh! That makes sense!"
He nodded seriously, as if it was some great revelation.
Just then, Zoro lifted his head.
His sharp eyes locked onto them.
"Oi! You guys are an eyesore—get lost!"
Koby and Nami nearly collapsed on the spot.
Their faces turned pale, their legs wobbled, and they broke into a cold sweat.
Meanwhile, Carl casually took out his camera.
He adjusted the angle, took a few snapshots, and smirked.
If nothing else—
These photos were definitely going to be Zoro's blackmail material in the future.
At that moment, a wooden ladder was placed against the wall.
A young girl climbed up, clutching a wrapped cloth ball.
She glanced at Luffy and the others, then ignored them, using a rope to climb into the base.
Once inside, she quickly ran toward Zoro.
Koby panicked.
"Luffy-san! Stop her! If she gets too close, she'll be killed!"
Carl just shrugged.
The rules of this world are really strong.
Even with all the changes Luffy had made, the plot was still proceeding as usual.
Did that mean he had to experience everything he already knew?
Wasn't that boring?
Over in the square—
The little girl stood before Zoro, clutching the cloth ball tightly.
Her voice was soft but determined.
"Big brother, are you hungry? I brought you some rice balls."
Zoro frowned.
"What do you want, kid?"
The girl carefully unwrapped the cloth.
Inside were two homemade rice balls.
She smiled brightly.
"I know you haven't eaten in a while, so I made these for you!"
She beamed.
"It's my first time making them, but I tried my best!"
Zoro's expression darkened.
"I'm not hungry. Leave."
The girl didn't budge.
"But big brother—"
Zoro gritted his teeth.
"I said I don't want them! Get lost before I beat you up!"
