One Piece: Beyond The Norm

Chapter 3: 003: Looming danger (1)

It had been three days since Nyx began sailing the seas of the East Blue, his ship in all its stolen glory rowing towards a distant island. Nyx stood atop the mast of the ship as his tall and robust figure stood straight and fearless.

His face carried a neutral expression as his wavy white hair fluttered in the wind. His daunting blue eyes scanned the surrounding waters, surveying its every movement as though attempting to gaze into its depth.

It was then that he saw it. A large shadow moved slowly and menacingly, circling his ship as it moved along the waters. Nyx squinted his eyes as he held out his right hand, summoning within it, a large and gorgeous scythe. Twirling it skillfully, he charged up an attack, coating it with bright and vibrant blue flames that threaded the air as it spun.

"C'mon you bastard, I've been waiting for ya." He muttered beneath his breath a taunting smirk gracing his handsome face.

Then as though answering to his soft taunt, the shadow rose with a speed that defied logic, becoming bigger and more menacing than ever. The ocean churned as large waves began beating against the somewhat battered exterior of the marine ship.

"I don't know how and why a monster such as yourself is lurking in these easy waters but I'll have to skin you today!"

And with those provocative words, Nyx's figure blurred as he launched himself towards the now visible sea creature. A large eel like monster, so ginormous it nearly eclipsed the size of modern earth's eiffel tower.

[Starlight Sever]

Nyx unleashed a flaming slash as he swung his scythe diagonally. In mere moments the head of the enormous creature was severed. Nyx landed gracefully back onto the ship's deck as large blue colored blood sprayed from its neck.

As he witnessed the death of the creature, a system prompt suddenly flashed in front of him gaining his full attention.

"Hm, roll for its trait."

He said calmly, not expecting much. And as he said, it did. The system soon revealed to him his awarded trait, immediately stunning the man in its process.

[Congratulations Master, you've gained the unawakened trait of this Sea King, Telekinesis]

"Holy shit! Since when did the Sea Kings of this world have access to such power?! This was never once mentioned in the original work! I'm convinced now, this is definitely an alternate universe!"

Nyx had this theory a while now, his everyday discoveries aiding the authenticity of it. Realizing that the Sea King had now begun sinking into the water, Nyx snapped out of his thoughts as he eagerly utilized his newly gained trait.

Hum!

A melodic hum reverberated throughout the air as an invisible power was unleashed. Nyx felt his mind power begin working as he stretched his open hand out towards the corpse and motioned with his fingers. Amazingly, the corpse began to rise steadily with ease, as though it was lifted into the air by a large hand.

Allowing it to float within the air by focusing his mind power onto it, Nyx's scythe blurred in a flurry of fluid movements as the large corpse was suddenly split into several smaller pieces.

Smiling at his catch and relishing in his newfound strength, Nyx immediately got to work, skinning the Sea King before deboning it and cooking it using his powerful flames.

Nyx wasted no amount of time as he began devouring the creature as though his hunger was insatiable. Five minutes passed in a flash as Nyx soon took his last bite, finishing his food before gulping down a large pot of water.

"Gah!!! What a lovely meal indeed!" He shouted with a satisfied expression on his face before turning to gaze towards the distant island he was heading towards.

"Three days. I should arrive at that island in three days. I look forward to assimilating your strength, Arlong! Grarararara!!!" A boisterous laugh was unleashed as Nyx sat back down to relax, his thoughts threading towards the coming future.

Somewhere, distant from where Nyx had been sailing, a fleet of ships were seen traversing the waters in a fixed formation. The ships varied in sizes though their appearances starkly resembled one another. At the foremost front of the formation, the largest ship steered through the waters dominantly, its aura being the pillar of the formation showcasing a menacing veil that stroked fear into one's heart.

The ship was large and powerful, its blood red exterior painted in a way that displayed an image of thousands of bloodshed achieved from perilous battles. Its figurehead was the intimidatingly sculpted head of a three headed creature that resembled a great drake.

Both its foremast and mainmast donned a unique jolly roger of the three skulls of a three headed drake with two bones piercing both sides to form an 'X'.

These men were a rising fleet in the South Blue known as the The Behemoth Pirates and their main ship was known as The Draken. On top of the Draken, at the captain's quarters situated towards the rear of this ship, a man was seen exiting the room, his tall stature easily overshadowing majority of his men.

His face was rugged and filled with scars, his hair black and sleek curled towards shoulder length. He stood at a staggering height of 6'7" with light brown skin and blood red eyes. His large robust body was broad and tall, filled with tribal tattoos that displayed signs of a tribal heritage of some kind.

With a large, sleeveless trench coat draped over his shoulders, his bare chest exposed, and his lower body cladded in a pair of military pants and boots. This man looked as though he was a terrifying being that walked among humanity.

He was Jaxx Rexvia also known as The Hunter. Rexvia was a man that controlled a large fleet of pirates that tallied into a total of seven thousand men! His bounty as of current was 100 Million Berries, and this was before he had even traversed to the Grand Line. The Navy had long since marked Rexvia and his fleet as a potential threat even acknowledging the fact he did this without the renowned Will of D.

All this however proved how competent a leader he was. Not only was he an owner of a powerful fleet but he himself was just as powerful if not even more than those of his fleet. He was a man that was cold, calculative and decisive when it came to his prey, or so he likes to refer to them.

On top of this, he was able to form high level strategies and execute them with different troupes of the fleet. Though, individually, the men of the fleet were weak. However, Rexvia noticed that together they were able to formulate more victories than losses, eventually tipping the win to lose ratio.

Currently, he had his eyes dead set on an island the Arlong Pirates had situated on. He wished to reel them in as a means to form connections to the powerful Fishman Island. An ambitious man indeed.

However, he would soon come to know of a variable he had not foreseen. That variable is the very same man that is about to take the entire world by surprise.

[Back to Nyx]

Nyx stared into the distance, his eyesight sharpening granting him a somewhat new and improved set of 'lens' to see out of. With a squint of his eyes, he saw it. His goal, his destination. Arlong was docked there and he couldn't wait to plunder his power.

Nyx looked over to his right suddenly, his expression unreadable as he noticed several ships in the far off distance.

'Marines?'

He pondered, apprehension crawling slowly into his heart. Nonetheless, he pushed the thought into the back of his head, burying it with an anchor of caution. Moving on, he got up from where he had lay and began to hasten his flags fully as a flurry of powerful gusts of winds approached.

With this push, Nyx's ship darted through the waters unstoppable. Jumping down from the foremast, he headed towards the poop deck, there he decided to stay and observe as time slowly ticked by.

Noon approached—at this time his ship had neared the island's shores. He moved into the ship's chamber, activating its deployment system, shooting out its anchor deep into the waters.

Clunk!

The anchor dug into the ocean's sandy floor, giving the ship a foothold. Then, Nyx began to close the sails as the oncoming waves brought the ship closer onto the sandy shores. With a simple kick of his feet, Nyx appeared on the beach—gazing around as he saw over a region of jungle, Cocoyashi Village.

Looking towards the sea where he had seen the fleet of ships sail, he had noticed throughout the day that it had sailed further from his sight, however still locked onto the same island as him. He was confident that they would have been pulling in by the morning at least.

Before they would arrive, Nyx planned to make his move tonight. He needed to make his name known but aside from that, he had ambitions. He wished to conquer these seas first before heading to the Grandline.

His tall and muscular body shook and in that moment, he vanished.

Reappearing at the village's rear, he found an exit gate in which he simply leaped over. His appearance startled a few villagers gathered outside their houses. They gazed at Nyx in terror, quivering in fear as they recounted his action of jumping that high. It didn't take a genius to point out that such a thing was humanly impossible.

Nyx looked at them with narrowed eyes however a soft glint of pity couldn't help but flash within. He raised his hands in an act to show that he meant no harm.

"Sorry If I had startled you all. Please, I have a request. Are you willing to hear me out?"

Hearing his question the previously quivering villagers adopted an expression of confusion as they now glimpsed at each other. They soon turned back to him before nodding.

"Great," he said with a toothy grin, "may I speak with the Village's Chief? I have a proposal for him."

A woman who was hugging her two children approached the shirtless Nyx, her eyes glistening in fascination as she stared at the intricate runic tattoos that covered his body and face. Somehow she couldn't understand how they had managed to further enhance his appearance. His sharp masculine features were undeniably the best she had ever seen.

"S-Sir, if I may?" She asked, her figure straightened as she spoke. Nyx nodded gently, his eyes interlocking with her's. "I can guide you to his house but might I ask, are you a marine officer..?"

As she asked this Nyx could hear the desperation in her voice, the fear and hope. Nyx couldn't help but feel the pain within his chest. Though he hadn't met these people before he knew to himself that they weren't just a simply drawn and animated character anymore. These people were living, breathing and bleeding human beings. For such a time of oppression—one can only imagine.

Nyx however shook his head, denying her previous assumptions. Instead he answered, "I'm no marine, I'm simply a man who yearns for freedom. I heard of your situation. I may or may not have a personal grudge with that bastard Arlong."

Her eyes widened for a few moments whereas the other villagers were mixed into it as well. Her hopes dimmed momentarily, however was ignited once again as he finished his sentence. The surrounding villagers also grew a bit elated, hope reignited in their hearts as they stared at the unknown man before them. They didn't know who he was but they could tell just by the aura, muscles and collectiveness of this young man, he was strong.

However, to match him against Arlong who, in their eyes, was a being akin to a being of invincibility, they did not know. Nyx sensed their emotions with his Observation Haki, chuckling a bit at their nonsensical thoughts. Not wishing to delay no further, Nyx offered his hand to the front, signaling his desire for her to lead the way.

And so she did. Her two children remained huddled up by an old lady as both her and the children along with the other villagers who surrounded her went back inside but gazed through their windows in their direction.

And it was like this for all other villagers throughout the village as they knew that the patrolling unit of Arlong would soon enter into their vicinity. The woman also knew this but she remained composed and determined. Her instincts continuously screamed to her that she was doing the right thing!
