Chapter 8: CALL HER BY HER LAST NAME
My eyes stared at the mirror, the light in my eyes gone, I am supposed to be happy but the thought of getting married to a murder still rings in my head and taunts me badly.
"Girl, you just have to look at the bright side," Camila let out coming to face me.
"You are going to be promoted, well respected in the firm, and you are doing it to get him, trust me it's going to be a very big case and that will bring a big transformation for you."
I glanced at Camila, "Yeah, I know but when I rethink it, I feel like I am only making my life look useless.
"Oh common, I wish to be you right now and get married to that hot and rich mothersfucker,"
"Camilla," I called irritatedly and she rolled her eyes, "Let's do it this way," she stated this time she was done with my makeup.
Camilla then picked up her phone and placed it in front of me, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You're going to ruin him." I narrowed my eyes on this.
"Excuse me? I thought you wanted me to be with him."
Camilla's grin grew wider as she dropped her phone, glaring at me playfully.
"Come on, Isabella. You're a prosecutor. You have a hunch already that he's involved in shady dealings. I can't be with a killer," she teased.
She opened her phone's camera app and pointed it at me.
"Say it out loud, so you don't forget." she let out and I smiled mischievously.
"3… 2… 1… go,"
"I, Isabella Alessandro, won't fall for Lorenzo Matteo. I plan to dig into his life and ruin him completely. Dig up more information and make out the biggest case in history."
Camilla's eyes sparkled as she recorded me.
"Perfect," she said, stopping the video. "This will be your reminder."
She placed the phone in front of me again, the video playing on the screen.
"You won't fall for his charms, Isabella. You'll bring him down," Camilla stated.
I nodded, b"You're right. I will gather evidence, expose his secrets, and ensure justice is served."
Camilla grinned. "Together, we will take him down."
I gave a sly nod and then she chuckled.
"Wow, you were laughing and giggling during your first marriage," my mind flashed back to Emilio.
Then my phone buzzed continuously, interrupting me from my deep thinking.
I picked it up and checked to see it was a message, "Solo Mia, you don't want to get me mad."
I blew out a rasp of air at my craziness in getting married to someone I had no idea about.
"Let's go," I let out but Camilla made me twirl in front of the mirror. "This gown is one of a kind, it's got customized for you alone."
I rolled my eyes at this, "Camilla,"
"Remember a good deal in the future," she muttered and we found our way outside her apartment, but were stunned to see about five black cars outside the apartment.
"Wh… what?" I was lost for words, "How come?"
"Boss asked us to come to pick you up ma'am," they all announced at once as Camilla stood behind me giving me a knowing smirk.
"You are not going to get worried about how he knew your apartment?" I asked and only then did Camilla's eyes widen.
"It's almost time ma'am." without another word, Camilla helped me with my grown as we both got into the car and drove down to the halls
The car pulled up in front of a very beautiful hall, and like they were all expecting our arrival I saw them all line up.
The guards helped me open the door and I alighted from the car.
Seeing us my father approached us, his expression stern.
"Pretty sure he wanted to walk me up the aisle," I said, my mind flashing back three years to my wedding with Emilio.
I had been the happiest person on Earth, oblivious to the heartache that awaited me.
"Why did you come late?" he asked, smirking, and I snorted.
"Rethinking my decision," I replied gruffly and wrapped my hands around his arm.
"Good morning, Mr. Alessandro," Camilla greeted, but he ignored her, striding toward the door.
"The embarrassment I am facing today is because of you," he said, his voice low and disapproving.
"I am not going to have anything to do with you once you become his wife. Rethink your decision, let's go home," he advised, for a weird reason. I keep wondering why Dad doesn't want me to be with Lorenzo.
He is fucking wealthy, I had a search about him last night and I can say when it comes to money he can help Dad boost his business but why did he hate him so much.
"It's my life, and I have my advantages in marrying him," I countered. "You shouldn't worry; it's my choice."
The doors opened, and we shared a small, tense smile amidst the sea of guests.
"Who did you invite?" I whispered seeing the guest.
My father grumbled, clearly displeased that I was marrying Lorenzo. "His associates… and your colleagues who would be here if not them?"
"Wow," I whispered in deep thought. I didn't even invite them and they were all here.
For once I am relieved Emilio had refused to act like my husband. Also making me drop his last name, keeping our marriage private.
At least he saved my face today, I would have been the hot topic.
We reached the altar, where Lorenzo waited.
"Welcome, Solo Mia," he said, his eyes locked onto mine. I rolled my eyes at the term of endearment.
The ceremony proceeded, and soon we exchanged vows. I don't miss my dad's furry gaze laced on Lorenzo.
"You may kiss your bride," the minister said and he glanced in my direction.
"Solo mia, what did you say?" hewhiperedband I rolled my eyes, he leaned forward and I felt my heart skip at our closeness.
He took in my lips kissing me, I clenched my teeth not giving him entrance and I felt him smirk against my lips. "I won't cause a scene here" he whispered and disengaged the guests erupted into applause.
******
RECEPTION
I stood confidently, champagne flute in hand, surrounded by my colleagues and Chairman as they cheered me on at my marriage ceremony.
We were gathered to toast my recent nuptials to Lorenzo Matteo. Even though my so-called husband is busy with his guests to come over here.
"To important client Lorenzo and one of our best prosecutors in the firm, may our union bring joy and prosperity," the Chairman announced, smiling warmly.
I smiled, feeling a mix of emotions, I couldn't tell which smile was true or fake anymore. He had fired me two days ago and now?
"Thank you, everyone. Your well-wishes mean the world to me." I let out.
Just then, Livia sauntered up, I hadn't been looking in their direction for a while since they meant nothing to me anymore.
"Congratulations, sister," Livia said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I am shocked you managed to get someone like Lorenzo."
My gaze locked onto Livia's, a hint of amusement dancing in my eyes, as everyone suddenly turned silent.
"Thank you, Livis. I am thrilled to give you the green light to enjoy Emilio now. You have waited long enough."
Livia's face flushed, her eyes flashing with anger, as everyone glanced at her direction.
"Wow, Emilio never expected you to have something with her sister," the chairman let out and I smiled as everyone's attention was directed to him.
"Well… yeah… kinda," he mumbled, and then Camilla stepped in.
"I have always thought it would be my friend here, but guess she wasn't his type from the beginning," she teased and everyone broke into laughter.
I don't miss the death stare he shot my way, "Ah, but he was. And now, I have upgraded to someone who truly appreciates me." I announced and my eyes darted between us.
Just then I felt Lorenzo appear at my side, placing a small kiss on my cheek.
Chairman Ten defied to intervene,
"Ah, Mr. Matteo, you always had a knack for surprise. Letting the Land deal go was quite unexpected."
Lorenzo's expression turned stern, "Guess you couldn't say no to your girl," he finished, and Lorenzon chuckled.
"Business is full of unexpected moves, Chairman. Sometimes, you must sacrifice one gain for another."
My gaze flicked to Lorenzo, my mind racing. I wonder what is going on in his head.
"Well, Lorenzo." Livia called, now moving closer to us, "I hate when someone who isn't important to me calls me by that name," he cut her off, making me glance his way.
"Oh sorry then Brother-in-law would be good then," Lorenzo didn't say anything and she proceeded.
"Well, I hope you are ready for what you are getting into with my sister. She isn't the type that can keep her marriage," She let out and the smile on my face disappeared.
"Well you didn't need to be worried about that," Lorenzo's arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me close.
"I am the one who pursued her first because I liked her, so I should be able to understand her more and give her the attention she needs," he added and a smile broke out on my face.
Livia's face twisted in rage, and then Emilio pulled her back shaking his head.
"Sorry Mr. Matteo, they are sisters I hope you let that go," Lorenzo cooked deeply.
"Solo Mia, do you?" I smirked at this and then shook my head.
"I am an elder sister. I should teach her a lesson for trying to belittle me in my wedding ceremony," Emilio's eyes widened at this as he smiled a bit.
"Isabella, I didn't expect you to take…"
"Call her by my last name, I wouldn't like hearing you call her on a first-name basis," Lorenzo interrupted him.
"Oh, sorry Mrs. Matteo. I.."
"Since she is your girl don't you think you should suffer for her misbehavior for not teaching her how to talk before me" he scoffed in shock.
"Excuse me?" he asked in shock, and I smiled.
"Well she is my sister I should let this go shouldn't I?" I asked and Lorenzo smirked.
"Chairman, all my case will be handled by my wife as from now, also… first thing tomorrow make her the vice chairman of the firm,"
