Nightmare Strikes

Chapter 28: Tricks

It wasn't due to years of neglect, but rather quite clean. The bed was neatly made, and the table was spotless, with a pot of unidentifiable flowers sitting on the only windowsill.

The flowers were a light purple, exuding an inexplicable sense of sorrow.

The fatty spoke up, "Doctor, don't you think that us being caught in this nightmare is like a floating reed in a chaotic world, swaying uncertainly, not knowing where to take root, living day by day, and perhaps facing death at any moment?"

"Perhaps," Jiang Cheng sighed, "but at least I have you with me."

Upon hearing this, the fatty was suddenly moved, tears welling in his eyes. "I didn't expect that after just a few days, our bond would deepen to this extent."

Jiang Cheng looked into the fatty's sincere gaze and said emotionally, "Fatty, think about it. If you can survive, how could the dangers we faced back then take my life?"

"I'd definitely die right after you," Jiang Cheng continued. "So don't worry, if that day comes, I'll try my best to take your ashes out and bury them in a flowerpot at the studio. You're big, so your ashes will have more calcium and phosphorus than an average person's."

The fatty fell silent for a moment. "Doctor, no one taught you how to speak properly when you were young, right?"

Jiang Cheng had already inspected the room thoroughly. Apart from a very small locked cabinet that he couldn't open, he hadn't found anything suspicious.

Confirming it was safe, the fatty flopped onto the bed, his stomach growling loudly. "Doctor, this place is strange. I just arrived, and I'm already starving."

But now it was completely dark outside, and moving in the dark without any clues was undoubtedly foolish and dangerous.

Moreover, the woman who led them had specifically warned against moving at night, the reason for which remained unknown.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Cheng pulled out a large piece of chocolate from his pocket, wrapped in red packaging—the kind that had been popular when they were kids.

"Where did you get this?" The fatty shot up from the bed, his eyes shining with excitement.

"On the way here," Jiang Cheng broke off a piece and tossed it over, and the fatty hurriedly caught it.

After taking a small bite, the fatty chewed thoughtfully and then looked up. "Was it on the way to the café?"

When he had left the café, the fatty noticed there were several supermarkets nearby, but he couldn't understand how Jiang Cheng had bought chocolate without any money.

Once they entered the nightmare, most of their belongings were taken away, including money.

Jiang Cheng took a small bite of the chocolate, looking out at the dark window, and said slowly, "I didn't buy it."

"Didn't buy it?"

"Yeah."

"Then how did you get it?" The fatty's eyes widened in sudden realization, as if he had stumbled upon something important. "You didn't steal it, did you?"

"Nonsense!" Jiang Cheng shot an annoyed glance at the fatty. "The supermarket owner insisted on giving it to me, and when I refused, she got angry."

The fatty eyed Jiang Cheng suspiciously. "Come on, Doctor, tell me, where can I find a shop owner like that? I'd like a dozen of them."

As Jiang Cheng was about to debate the existence of such shop owners, the fatty gave up first, raising a hand. "Doctor, you've led me astray. We're in a nightmare now, and we might die tomorrow."

"Don't be so pessimistic." Jiang Cheng patted his shoulder reassuringly. "You might not even survive tonight."

The fatty: "…"

407.

The girl in dinosaur onesie curled up in bed, covered by blankets, shivering uncontrollably.

She looked at the woman in a cheongsam sitting in a chair and trembled, "Sister, don't you think it's cold here? I'm freezing in my onesie. Aren't you cold?"

The woman in the cheongsam, just like Jiang Cheng, had checked the room thoroughly upon entering.

Aside from finding a broken comb in the drawer, there was nothing unusual.

Even the trash can was very clean, with a brand new trash bag inside.

"If you just want to find something to talk about to ease your fear, I advise you to save your breath," the cheongsam woman said coldly. "It's pointless and will only distract us."

The girl in dinosaur onesie seemed taken aback by the cheongsam woman's imposing tone and fell silent, but her stomach grumbled loudly in protest.

"Turn around and pull the curtains shut," the cheongsam woman commanded.

The onesie girl's bed was right next to the window, which had a blue curtain—not large, but enough to cover it.

Shivering, the onesie girl quickly stretched out a hand from under the blankets and pulled the curtain closed.

"Be gentle," the cheongsam woman said sharply. "If you tear down the curtain, who knows what trouble it'll cause."

The onesie girl froze for a moment. "What trouble could that cause?"

The cheongsam woman glanced at her a few times, then turned away and ignored her question, lying back down on her own bed, covering herself to the chin.

"Doctor." The fatty watched Jiang Cheng move the mattress to the floor and asked curiously, "Why are you sleeping on the floor when there's a bed?"

After a pause, the fatty suddenly seemed to have a revelation, his mouth twitching. "Do you think there are ghosts that crawl out from under the bed? Is that why you're preparing in advance?"

"Not really." Jiang Cheng spread out the blanket, arranged the pillow, and patted it down until it formed a comfortable depression for his head before lying down and shifting slightly. "I'm just used to it."

The fatty nodded. Although he had never been in Jiang Cheng's bedroom in the real world, he remembered Jiang Cheng mentioning that if someone wanted to steal something other than money, they could go to his bedroom, but there was no bed—just a mattress.

"By the way," the fatty scratched his head, puzzled. "Why are you targeting that man in the suit?"

He paused and continued, "He hasn't done anything to us. I think your actions are completely meaningless and have unnecessarily created a formidable enemy for yourself.

"To put it bluntly, if you weren't targeting him, we probably wouldn't be stuck in this room 404."

Jiang Cheng stared at the ceiling, his hands under his head, and after a long while said slowly, "He made the first move."

The fatty was startled, sitting up with wide eyes. "What did you say?"
