"Ding Dong——"

Just then, the doorbell rang. Liam looked up at the clock; it was exactly 9 o'clock.

He stood up, walked to the hallway, and through the surveillance screen on the wall, saw Nate waiting outside the door.

Liam opened the door, crossed the yard, and welcomed Nate in.

Nate glanced at the mansion in front of him with a hint of doubt and asked hesitantly,

"Coach, is this your home?"

"No, this is my friend's house. I'm just staying here temporarily," Liam explained.

"Oh, I see... Did you call me here because you have some news?" Nate asked with anticipation.

Over the past month, Liam had introduced Nate to both Jeff Austin and Larry Riley, securing her a role through those interviews. She was grateful to Liam and had kept his meeting with the Warriors' former owner, Chris Cohan, a secret.

Today, Liam had reached out to her again, and Nate had a feeling it was for something important.

Liam led her into the living room, and Tina brought a glass of water over. Liam said,

"I wasn't sure what you prefer to drink, so I just prepared some warm water. Hope that's alright."

Nate looked around and saw that it was just the three of them, with no one else present.

"Water is fine," she said, taking a polite sip before chuckling. "So, Coach, you want me to interview someone today? Are you asking me to interview you?"

"That's right," Liam nodded.

Nate's eyes lit up. Was this the moment Liam was going to announce that he would be the head coach of the Warriors?

She quickly pulled out a recorder and notebook, placing them on her lap.

"Shall we start now?" she asked eagerly.

Liam, noticing her impatience, smiled and asked,

"Why are you in such a rush?"

Nate's eyes widened,

"Do you have any idea how long I've been sitting on this? I'm a reporter! I've known this big story but couldn't tell anyone. Do you know how frustrating that is? Come on, spill it—are you going to be the head coach of the Warriors?"

"Head coach of the Warriors? Not yet," Liam replied, shaking his head.

"Not the head coach? Then it's assistant coach, right? That makes sense—you're still young, so becoming a head coach immediately is tough. But even assistant coach is a huge deal. No one from Colombia has ever coached in the NBA," Nate said, sounding a bit disappointed but still understanding.

Liam realized she was completely off track, so he clarified,

"I'm not an assistant coach either. You know the Warriors were recently bought out, right?"

"Yeah, I know. The Chronicle reported about a month ago that some rich guy named Mark Baum from Indiana bought the Warriors. Finally, we're rid of that Chris Cohan guy," Nate said, relieved as a long-time Warriors fan.

The news about the Warriors' change in ownership had broken some time ago, but it didn't garner much attention beyond local fan circles in San Francisco.

In the NBA, aside from owners like the Buss family or Mark Cuban, most fans cared more about players and teams than the owners. Ownership changes often flew under the radar.

In Liam's previous life, even though several teams went through ownership changes in the coming years, only Steve Ballmer's purchase of the Clippers and Michael Jordan's takeover of the Hornets created much buzz. The Kings' and Bucks' ownership only got noticed because of the owners' high-profile daughters.

Liam chuckled,

"Yeah, Chris Cohan is finally gone. But do you know what it cost me? $500 million—that's most of my fortune."

Nate's face froze.

"Did you just say... $500 million? Most of your wealth?"

She stared at him, wondering if she had misheard. She studied Liam's expression, trying to gauge whether he was joking.

Liam, noticing Nate's wide-eyed stare, felt a sudden urge to laugh. He suppressed it and nodded with a straight face,

"Yes, I bought the Warriors. I'm the new owner."

Nate was utterly stunned, her voice trembling as she stammered,

"Y-you're lying to me, right?"

"No, I'm not."

"But the Chronicle said Mark Baum bought the Warriors. He's from Indiana, and you're from Colombia!"

"Well, Mark is a friend of mine. We co-founded a company, and while he's the official legal owner, I control the company. He signed the deal with Chris Cohan, but I'm the one in charge. By the way, this house is his," Liam explained.

Nate, still reeling from the revelation, looked around the mansion in a daze before blurting out,

"Are you secretly some kind of super-rich heir?"

"No."

"Then how are you so wealthy?"

"It's a long story... I made a good amount of money in the subprime mortgage market," Liam said vaguely, not wanting to delve into details.

Nate barely contained her shock and exclaimed,

"Coach, that's incredible! Alright, let's get started. Tell me all about how you acquired the Warriors."

She picked up her pen, ready to jot down notes.

Liam smiled and began,

"Okay, here's how it all started. About six months ago, I got in touch with Chris Cohan..."

...

The next morning, old Coach Nelson finished shaving, sat down at the breakfast table, and picked up the San Francisco Chronicle, which was his morning routine.

The front-page headline was eye-catching:

"Shocking! The Warriors' Trade Involves This Inside Story."

His heart sank as he read the subheading.

Since the new ownership took over, he had not been contacted, and though he had been leading the team during the draft process, Larry Riley had taken over many responsibilities.

Nelson knew why. His long tenure with the Warriors gave him a certain power within the organization, and the new owner likely wanted to curb that influence. He suspected they might even replace him with a new head coach.

But Nelson, despite his many years in the league, didn't want to leave Golden State. He wanted to retire there.

He read the article carefully, his expression shifting from concern to disbelief, and finally tossed the newspaper onto the table.

"What kind of joke is this? A 26-year-old owner who wants to be the head coach?" he muttered under his breath.
