Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Welcome Home
Chapter 227: Welcome Home
Haneda walked alongside Fugaku, his mind occupied with thoughts of Shisui.
He had chosen to pursue the Hokage position through an election rather than a coup, mainly out of caution toward Shisui's Kotoamatsukami.
Though Uchiha genjutsu relied on eye power, and Haneda's was far superior to Shisui's, who could say for certain what might happen against an ability that forcibly rewrites another's will?
By ascending to the Hokage position through legitimate means, Shisui's Will of Fire would prevent him from using Kotoamatsukami on Haneda.
And once Haneda became Hokage, a portion of Shisui's love for Konoha would naturally shift into loyalty toward Haneda.
As long as Haneda didn't openly harm Konoha's interests, Shisui would obey him.
Of course, Haneda had no intention of harming the village.
Fugaku, clearly excited, remarked, "Haneda, I didn't realize you were such an incredible speaker. It feels like all the clan members now revere and trust you completely."
Haneda responded without hesitation:
"Some people are born to be speakers."
"As long as they are passionate and loyal to what they're speaking about, their thoughts and emotions will naturally pour out."
"That's how I am."
Haneda turned his head to look at Fugaku and asked,
"Other than Iwagakure's request for peace, nothing major has happened in the village recently, right, Brother Fugaku?"
"Recently?" Fugaku pondered for a moment before replying,
"The Third Hokage did speak with me about some matters concerning the Uchiha and the village. He also mentioned you a few times."
"Additionally, the envoy from Kumogakure arrived in Konoha, but a few of them were killed by the head of the Hyūga clan. It's caused quite an uproar."
Hearing about the situation with Kumogakure and the Hyūga, Haneda smiled knowingly.
"It seems I've returned at just the right time."
Haneda glanced at a nearby streetlamp, noticing that his house was just beside it.
"I'm home now. Let's talk more tomorrow, Brother Fugaku."
Waving goodbye, Haneda took a few steps before turning back to say,
"Oh, by the way, if you have time tomorrow, could you help me locate Naruto?"
"The son of Minato? Are you planning to adopt him, Haneda?"
"Yes. Minato entrusted him to me."
With that, Haneda ended the conversation and headed toward his home.
Looking up at the house, he noticed that the first floor lights were off, but the second floor had a few lights still on.
It seemed that Haku and Kimimaro were already resting.
Haneda pulled out his key, unlocked the door, and quietly stepped inside.
The house was pitch dark, with almost no light.
Just as he was about to turn on a light, the living room suddenly lit up, and—
POP!
A party popper burst open, showering the room with colorful confetti.
The glittering confetti sparkled under the light, creating a beautiful display.
"Welcome home, Haneda-sama!"
Hearing the familiar voices, Haneda instantly recognized Haku and Karin.
Kimimaro and Yamato each held a flower, stepping forward to present them to Haneda.
"It's been a while, Yamato. How has Brother Fugaku been treating you?"
"It's been alright… Itachi has been very kind, and Sasuke is adorable," Yamato replied, somewhat awkwardly.
After all, Haneda had left for three years without a word…
Three years of absence made things feel a little unfamiliar.
But seeing Haneda's bright, sunny smile quickly dispelled that unfamiliarity, replacing it with the warmth of familiarity.
"Haneda-sama, look out the window!"
Kimimaro blew a whistle, and outside, brilliant fireworks burst into the sky.
The fireworks lit up the night sky, glowing magnificently under the moonlight.
Dazzling colors filled the heavens, painting a celebratory scene.
Unknowingly, Haneda's eyes became misty.
It had been a long time since he felt such a sense of home.
"Heh, Haneda! Isn't this art just beautiful?"
"Exactly! This fleeting beauty is what makes it so perfect, hmm!"
Deidara arrived on a clay bird, stopping outside the window. Leaning against the wall, he too admired the art of the explosions.
Time passed quietly, the moments moving steadily toward the end of the fireworks display.
Haneda watched the vibrant fireworks, a smile unconsciously curving his lips.
"Welcome home," he murmured softly, "and welcome home to all of you as well."
…
The Next Morning
Haneda rose early, washed up, and prepared breakfast for everyone.
After setting the table, he left a note on the table and quietly slipped out of the house.
After returning home, Fugaku had quickly found Naruto's residence and the places he frequented.
Haneda first visited Naruto's house but didn't find him there. He then made his way toward the Hokage Rock.
Naruto often carried buckets of paint there, coloring the faces of his father and the previous Hokage.
The Hokage Rock was the most visible place in the village. Painting there ensured that every villager would see his work.
For Naruto, even negative attention was better than being ignored.
After all, most villagers only called him "demon fox" and chose to pretend he didn't exist.
Standing at the base of the Hokage Rock, Haneda felt a droplet of something fall on his head.
Looking up, he saw Naruto painting his father's face. Haneda sighed softly.
Leaping into the air, Haneda ascended the rock in a straight line, appearing behind Naruto in an instant.
Placing a hand on Naruto's shoulder, he said:
"High-altitude graffiti is dangerous, you know."
"I know… not like anyone cares about me anyway…" Naruto muttered casually before turning to see who it was.
Startled, he took a step back, eyeing Haneda warily.
"You're not here to arrest me, are you?"
"I'm here to take you home." Haneda smiled warmly, extending a hand toward Naruto.
To Naruto, however, that smile seemed like that of a shady kidnapper looking to sell him off.
Without hesitation, Naruto bolted.
Haneda's smile froze for half a second before he sighed and used the Body Flicker Technique to appear directly in Naruto's path.
Naruto ran headfirst into Haneda's torso.
"Ah, sorry!" Naruto looked up sheepishly, but upon seeing Haneda's face again, he panicked.
"Hey, how can you run that fast?! You must be one of the Hokage's ninja sent to catch me!"
"I said I'm not going back!" Naruto stuck out his tongue and made a funny face before dashing off again.
This time, Haneda grabbed Naruto's arm.
"I told you, I'm here to take you home."
"I don't have a home! Stop bothering me, okay?" Naruto yelled angrily, struggling to free himself.
Realizing his efforts were futile, he eventually gave up and, in frustration, punched Haneda in the chest.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to!" Naruto immediately apologized when his fist connected with Haneda's solid muscles.
"This is something I deserve," Haneda replied calmly.
Kneeling down, he extended his hand toward Naruto once more.
"Come with me. I'll give you a home."
Hearing the word "home," Naruto hesitated.
"I was lying earlier. I do have a home. Hokage-jiji visits me sometimes, so I've always had one," he muttered.
Growl
Suddenly, Naruto's stomach betrayed him with a loud rumble.
Haneda chuckled knowingly.
"You haven't had breakfast, have you?"
"How about I treat you to some Ichiraku Ramen?"
